Deposited with permission of the author. © Dr. Tinka CosteoThis thesis examines the link between the top management group and company financial performance in Australian banks, and identifies some of the most important demographic characteristics involved in the relationship. A number of scholars have studied the link between the top management group’s demographic characteristics and various organisational outcomes, such as financial performance, diversification strategy, competitive moves, strategic conformity and persistence and organisational innovation (Bantel and Jackson, 1989; Finkelstein and Hambrick, 1990; Hambrick and D’Aveni 1992, Hambrick, Cho and Chen, 1996; Wiersema and Bantel, 1992). This research is different from previous studies of top management group effectiveness because it combines several methodological features found separately in these studies. The present study uses an inclusive, self nominated, definition of the top management group and a systematic, conceptual approach for selecting the demographic characteristics used to describe the top group. It also collects longitudinal data directly from the field, and is one of few studies of top management effectiveness conducted on organisations outside the USA. (For complete abstract open document

This M.A. thesis is based on author Tinka Avramova’s practical research and findings from the canon of her works created at DAMU regarding how to create authentic moments on stage specifically with regards to the performer’s authenticity. The aim of this paper is to describe the conclusions regarding how to create authentic performances in regards to the performers’ authenticity through analyzing the process and results from her works. The first part includes grounds the reader in what authenticity in performance means for the author goes through her early works, Lectures From My Father and For INTELLIGENT People Only, where she describes her path of discovery to working authentically. The second part focuses mainly on Avramova’s “Identity Series,” which includes the three works: Doubting Identity, Pull My Finger, and Rockets & Bombs. The author outlines and describes her approaches and methods of working with performers to achieve authenticity and recapitulates these methods’ discovery and development. Based on her personal findings, the author mostly uses personal experience and knowledge; she also references and discusses other contemporary theatre companies that use similar approaches concerning her own work. První část je zaměřena na to, co pro autorku autentičnost znamená, cituje její raná díla jako, “Lectures From My Father” a “For INTELLIGENT People Only”. Autorka zde nastiňuje a popisuje její přístupy a metody práce s interprety k dosažení autentičnosti a rekapituluje jejich objev a vývoj. Tato zjištění jsou založena na osobních zkušenostech a znalostech. Ona také odkazuje a diskutuje o jiných současných divadelních společnostech, které používají podobné přístupy jako jsou její vlastní

Assessment of effects of chemical contaminants in dredged material on marine ecosystems and human health

Partial, commented translation of the polemical satire Dritte Walpurgisnacht, by Karl Kraus

    No full text
This work presents the partial, commented translation of the anti-Nazi satire Dritte Walpurgisnacht written in 1933 by the Austrian author Karl Kraus (1875-1936) and published posthumously in 1952. It is a text not yet translated into Portuguese that analyses the National Socialist phenomenon in its linguistic expressions in journalism and in the German public life in general. The targets of the satirist are the statements made by journalists, politicians, writers and philosophers to express their support to a political regime based on poverty of language and unlimited violence. As far as these public figures are called by name and attacked in an open manner, this satire would by better defined as a polemical satire. This partial translation is preceded by a chapter that briefly contextualizes these questions; after a short historical introduction, a second initial chapter deals with two different approaches in translation theory, trying to make some connections between the now translated text and these theories

    Digitalizacija stare građe

Digitization has become a regular part of library management. Its success will depend on how well defined and prepared are the answers to the questions what, why and how to digitize. The article takes into consideration digitization from the point of view of creative reservation in the function of enabling and improving access to knowledge contained in different types of particularly valuable old printed and manuscript material. The author also expresses her attitude that digitization should further promote scientific and research work, and that it should present collections of old material to the wider public in a creative way. In order to achieve that, it is necessary to thoroughly prepare digitization projects, i.e., to define criteria for the choice of material to be digitized, cataloguing format for the digitized material and digitization techniques, ensure (large) financial resources and, finally, enable the use of digitized material

Interorganizational Networks: a context where collaborate to innovate it can produce learning at interorganizational level

    No full text
Inter-Organizational Network (ION) (for example:Joint Venture, Strategic Networks, Consortia, etc.) are considered a specic organizational paradigm that researchers used to understand performance (Powell et al., 1999), learning (Knight, 2002) and innovation (Faber & Meeus, 2006) of the rm involved in Inter-firm Networks. In such contexts, enterprises learn and improve their collaborative skills and innovative capabilities and both as single-individual enterprise and also as a group of companies and in this way they can better compete in a wider markets. ION is dened as 'a group of three or more organizations connected in ways that facilitate achievement of a common goal. Network members can be linked by many types of connections and flows, such as information, materials, financial resources, services, and social support. Connections may be informal and totally trust based or more formalized, as through a contract.' (Provan, Fish and Sydow, 2007). A literature review was conducted to investigate if and how ION facilitates innovation within the companies that constitute the network; two model consider and study specically the relationship between ION and innovation: Dynamic Capabilities perspective, studies how a rm combines its resource with resources of other rms of network to construct a organizational routine able to facilitate continuous innovation; Relational Perspective, that with the support of Social Network Analysis (SNA), studies how the features of relation between organizations and the social structure of these exchange relations can influence the innovation of product and service of organizations. This poster will present some aspects of our literature review: - the reciprocal relationship between collaborative processes, network of exchange relations (for example example:resourse, information, knowledge, etc.) and innovation of organizational products and services; - ION where actors (for example: entrepreneurs, professionals or other organization members) learned and developed inter-organizational routines to manage their exchange relations show an improvement of innovation capability at rm level. Finally, the author suggests some possible 'meeting points' between Dynamic Capabilities and Relational Perspective that could be useful to consider in the future inquiries on Innovation process in ION context

Teachers and Ethics: Developing religious self-awareness

    No full text
Responding to the growing internationalization of schools in Japan, a debate arose among scholars of religious studies on the possible contribution of religion for developing the intercultural skills in education. Some had argued that religious education would promote intercultural understanding (Inoue 2011); others warned it could facilitate nationalistic ideologies (Fujiwara 2007). In the meantime, however, since 2018 and 2019 ethics (doutoku) became an official (graded) subject in elementary and junior high schools nationwide. Although teaching ethics seems less controversial than teaching about religion, it is believed to be challenging to teach and grade ethics objectively as the teachers’ knowledge, beliefs and values can have a significant impact on children’s moral development. This article introduces an approach that makes religion a factor in education, promoting understanding of different beliefs and values. The author developed an interview about religious awareness and asked future elementary school teachers to answer them. The questions were mainly focused on beliefs in the existence of gods, kami, Buddha, ancestor spirits, heaven; visiting graves and carrying talismans; and their images about religions (Shinto, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, New religions), etc. After answering the questions, the students compared their answers with others in their group, and finally, with the statistical data from a public survey. The results revealed students’ lack of awareness about their own culture and (non)religiousness. Besides that, the interview process itself proved useful as it helped teachers become aware of their existing knowledge and experience with religion. Also, as teachers themselves conducted the interviews, they noticed significant differences among each other. In teacher’s training programs, such “self-reflective learning”, taken from the sociological study of religion, could be used to spark future teachers’ interest in their historical roots, beliefs and values and enhance their understanding of multiple dimensions of religion as a step toward achieving multicultural competence
