Differential Acquisition of m-Sequences using Recursive Soft Sequential Estimation

    No full text
In this contribution a novel sequential estimation method is proposed for the acquisition of mm-sequences. This sequential estimation method exploits the principle of iterative soft-in-soft-out (SISO) decoding for enhancing the acquisition performance, and that of differential pre-processing for the sake of achieving an enhanced acquisition performance, when communicating over various communication environments. Hence the advocated acquisition arrangement is referred to as the Differential Recursive Soft Sequential Estimation (DRSSE) acquisition scheme. The DRSSE acquisition scheme exhibits a low complexity, which is similar to that of an mm-sequence generator, while achieving an acquisition time that is linearly dependent on the number of stages in the mm-sequence generator. A low acquisition time is achieved with the advent of the property that the proposed DRSSE scheme is capable of determining the real-time reliabilities associated with the decision concerning a set of, say SS, consecutive chips. This set of consecutive chips constitutes the sufficient initial condition for enabling the local mm-sequence generator to produce a synchronized local despreading mm-sequence replica. Owing to these attractive characteristics, the DRSSE acquisition scheme constitutes a promising initial synchronization scheme for acquisition of long mm-sequences, when communicating over various propagation environments

∑_(l+m=k,l,m≥0) ((α+l-1)¦l) ((β+m-1)¦m)=((α+β+k-1)¦k) and its application to negative binomial distribution

We prove here the following equation: ∑_(l+m=k,l,m≥0) ((α+l-1)¦l) ((β+m-1)¦m)=((α+β+k-1)¦k) and give its application to prove the reproductive property of the negative binomial distribution. These finite sum equation involving binomial coefficients and proof of the reproductive property are not known as far as the author knows.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

On the kappakappa-thetatheta model of cellular flames: existence in the large and asymptotics.

    No full text
We consider the κ-θ model of flame front dynamics introduced in [6]. We show that a space-periodic problem for the latter system of two equations is globally well-posed. We prove that near the instability threshold the front is arbitrarily close to the solution of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation on a fixed time interval if the evolution starts from close configurations. The dynamics generated by the model is illustrated by direct numerical simulation

The Flexible Exchange Rate System: Experience and Alternatives

    No full text
We review ten aspects of how floating exchange rates have worked in practice, contrasted with ten characteristics that the system was supposed to have in theory. We conclude that the foreign exchange market is characterized by high transactions-volume, short-term horizons, and an absence of stabilizing speculation. As a result, the exchange rate at times strays from the equilibrium level dictated by fundamentals, contrary to theory. We then look at ten proposed alternatives to the current system. Four entail decentralized policy rules: new classical macroeconomics, a gold standard, monetarism, and nominal income targeting. Four foresee enhanced international coordination: G-7 "objective indicators," Williamson target zones, McKinnon "world monetarism," and a "Hosomi Fund." Two propose enhanced independence: a "Tobin tax" on transactions, and a dual exchange rate. We conclude that one might build a case for intervention from the observed failure of international financial markets to behave as in the theoretical ideal, but that government intervention in practice is just as likely to fall short of the theoretical ideal

A Frankel type theorem for CR submanifolds of Sasakian manifolds

    No full text
We prove a Frankel type theorem for CR submanifolds of Sasakian manifolds, under suitable hypothesis on the index of the scalar Levi forms determined by normal directions. From this theorem we de- rive some topological information about CR submanifolds of Sasakian space forms

Self-archiving practice and the influence of publisher policies in the social sciences

    No full text
Authors in different disciplines exhibit very different behaviours on the so-called ‘green’ road to open access, i.e. self-archiving. This study looks at the self-archiving behaviour of authors publishing in leading journals in six social science disciplines. It tests the hypothesis that authors are self-archiving according to the norms of their respective disciplines rather than following self-archiving policies of publishers, and that, as a result, they are self-archiving significant numbers of publisher PDF versions. It finds significant levels of self-archiving, as well as significant self-archiving of the publisher PDF version, in all the disciplines investigated. Publishers’ self-archiving policies have no influence on author self-archiving practice
