La Città e la casa: spazi urbani e domestici in Maria Aurèlia Capmany, Natalia Ginzburg, Elsa Morante e Mercè Rodoreda

This research collects texts from Maria Aurèlia Capmany, Natalia Ginzburg, Elsa Morante and Mercè Rodoreda, four great female authors of the twentieth century, with the aim of reconstructing the physical spaces they described in their books. These texts offer several cues to reflect on the representation of space in female literature. The study starts from the canonical contrast between the internal space, linked to the primary perception, and the external space, regulated by social dynamics. More specifically, the effects of the caused by the prevarication of the former on the latter. The goal is not to draft an exhaustive history of theories of space in literature but, once the distinctive features are highlighted, to investigate through the novel the depths of individual feeling that, in the case of female subjectivity, shows several critical issues

Josep Yxart crític, un memoràndum de lectura

    No full text
Critic, historian, journalist, translator, poet and narrator, Yxart was one of the intellectuals who, between 1852 and 1895, experienced the ideological, aesthetic and political changes that we will find at the base of the 20th century. His work, the result of a mediation between romanticism and positivism, was essentially original, modern and, in turn, rooted in the Catalan literary tradition. Through the analysis of selected critical texts, it will be framed, albeit in a synthetic way, the work and critical spirit of an author who, among other things, was recognized for having been one of the first to introduce naturalism to Catalonia

    No full text
This article refers to the work and correlation of two intellectuals, the Catalan Josep Yxart and the Italian Luigi Capuana. Observing the new French theories —both intellectuals have reflected on Taine’s aesthetic theories and Zola’s methodological proposals— allowed them to eliminate the provincialism of art. The novel, meanwhile, as opposed to rhetoric poetry, represented an example of "modernity". Beginning with a romantic-idealistic world, with all its moral and aesthetic implications, both intellectuals will converge on the new naturalist procedure, becoming the first pioneers in their countries.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

As they reflect each other, Folguera and Riba frame their critical vision of literature through some of their key texts. In their perspective, the concept of arbitrariness becomes fundamental, often embracing nuances of balance, classicism, and order. For both, the quality of the artistic work is essential and can be achieved through the proper proportion of inner comfort, order, and good taste in form. And from their point of view, poetry, far from being a mere ornament, ultimately becomes the essential poetic element

    Ramon Llull : l'allegorismo 'cortese' nell'Arbre de filosofia d'amor

This article focuses mainly on the presence of allegorical figures in Ramon Llull's Arbre de filosofia d'amor (Tree of philosophy of love). Being acquainted with Parisian literary trends, he exploits their metaphorical resources to compensate for the technical nature of the combinatorial method and uses beautiful images to support the constant metaphysical abstraction. If he is meticulous in developing his philosophical system, then he is just as meticulous in setting out the figures that should make his writing attractive. In fact, the allegory and arboreal symbolism in his work have a rigorous arrangement that increases their aesthetic value and permits him, once the theological or philosophical structure of reference is identified, to indulge in the highest lyricism
