Inclined internal tide waves at a narrow Mexican Pacific shelf
The dynamics of a semidiurnal internal tidal wave at a narrow Mexican Pacific shelf is discussed using the data of temperature obtained by an anchored instrument and data of field surveys. The internal tide on the shelf is dominated by an inclined wave, which propagates upward and onshore along a continental slope. Despite its reflection from the bottom and from the surface of the ocean, they remain inclined and totally destroyed over the course of one wavelength. Due to wave reflection from the inclined bottom, the horizontal and vertical wave number increase threefold when the wave goes into shallow waters. The wave undergoes nonlinear transformation and overturns forming several homogeneous temperature layers up to 20 m thick. The most intense disturbances of water layers are observed near the bottom, where the slope angle approaches its critical value. Because of nonlinear effects, the wave carries cool deep water out to the shallow depth and causes coastal upwelling. Intense solar warming together with vertical mixing results in a rapid rise of temperature in the 130-m water column that was observed. 2011 Springer-Verlag

Implementation of Software for Machine Learning and Deep Learning
The thesis studied how to create software for machine learning and deep learning. It also examined what the main components are in this kind of program and how are they implemented.
The central concepts that appear throughout the study are machine learning and deep learning. These abstractions are discussed in more detail during the explana-tion of the implementation process. Mathematical concepts, such as matrices and optimization algorithms, were used during the research. Moreover, topics from computer science, such as computation graphs, were applied to provide a better understanding of the final algorithm.
The results showed that the implementation of the software for machine learning and deep learning relies on the "training" algorithm and may vary depending on the type of problem approached with the software
Abstract : This thesis aimed to promote a dialogue between Lev S. Vygotsky s writings about art and the Russian artistic events of his time. The works analysed were "The tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark", 1916; "Psychology of Art", 1925; "The Aesthetic Education", 1926; and "Imagination and creation of Childhood", 1930. These writings were collated with poems, novels, short stories, excerpts of art critics texts, theatrical texts and visual analysis of works of art, concerning the period between 1890 and 1934. The study showed profitable possibilities for dialogue between the category of the tragic in Vygotsky and the work of the painter Pavel Filonov. A clear difference between the concept of catharsis in Vygotsky and the Aristotelian and psychoanalytic perspectives was evident. The function of catharsis in Vygotsky has social character and does not imply relief, but stimulates some sort of response that is not necessarily pleasant in the viewer. Tolstoy appears as a frequent interlocutor, but Vygotsky identifies more with the view of art as a transforming element found also in Russian Symbolism. From the debate with the Russian Formalism, Vygotsky distilled an objective approach to art and the consideration of the relationship between form, material and content in the artwork. The theme of artistic creation in Vygotsky was related with the Russian art collectives of the avant-garde, what shows that they all questioned the subject of authorship. Vygotsky affirmed the polysemy and the importance of the reception of the work of art, and we discovered that these were concerns also shared with the Russian avantgarde. The relationship between art and life was questioned by Vygotsky and by the main modernist trends of the time, such as Realism, Symbolism, Futurism, Constructivism and Productivism. We associated the aesthetic education advocated by Vygotsky with the art educational institutions prior and after the revolution of October 1917. This study showed many resonances between the work of Vygotsky and the practical and theoretical productions of artists and art critics of his time. We also concluded that Vygotsky s ideas about art are powerful to think about the artistic phenomena of his time and today.<br
On the dynamical response of lake Chapala, Mexico to lake breeze forcing
Fluctuations in the atmospheric characteristics, as well as variations in the water level of Lake Chapala are discussed. Field measurements of the atmospheric characteristics and lake level during December 1996 through January 1997 are described; using spectrum analysis of synchronous time series. The findings suggest that the variability is due to the diurnal cycle of atmospheric elements. Lake breeze circulation plays an important role in the area of Lake Chapala; since it was registered in 83% of the data. Periodic fluctuations in atmospheric pressure and wind generate significant seiche amplitudes in the lake, with the periods of about 6 h. With the help of a simple model, the seiche parameters are estimated. The amplitude of one-nodal seiches on one of the edges of the lake; is on average equal to 18 mm. This wave should generate currents of approximately 0.012 m s-1 at the lake's centre in the area of the nodal line. The experimental results on the thermal regime and circulation of Lake Chapala are discusssed as well. Surface temperature variations were registered at the eastern part of the lake. In all cross-sections, typical spatial variations of 3°C were registered, over a distance of 100-300 m. A bouy station registered movements of an internal thermal front in the body of the water. The leading edge of the front was accompanied by intense internal waves, in the form of internal KdeV solitones. The front near the buoy station was produced by the movement of a warm body of water travelling from the shallow eastern part of the lake and trigered by morning breeze
Thermic structure and intense internal waves on the narrow continental shelf of the Black Sea
Measurements results of the thermic structure taken from the waters of the narrow continental shelf of the south coast of Crimea are discussed. Continuous observations were performed in July-August 1993, from a stationary oceanologic platform (depth 30 m) using an antenna with three temperature distribution sensors and two temperature gradient distribution sensors situated at the platform comers (in a 19 x 22 m plane) covering the thermocline completely. Probes were also made of the water layer down to the bottom using a CTD, and also the currents at 5, 10 and 20 m were observed. A continuous register of the sea level waves, wind and atmospheric pressure was taken. The thermic structure showed oscillations in three time-scales: synoptic, related to the surge phenomena (3-5 days); inertial (17-18 h) and short period (less than 1 h). The thermocline was completely extended with a strong negative setup, and was close to the bottom with a positive setup, possessing vertical gradients of up to 2°C/m. Inertial movements showed up in the current oscillations and also produced vertical displacements in the thermocline up to 8-10 m, happening constantly while the measurements were taken. These displacements were usually related to groups of intense internal short period waves with amplitudes of 4-9 m, periods of 14-28 min and wavelengths of 250-360 m. An intense movement, with diurnal period related to the breeze processes on the coast, was also found in the currents. The relationship between the parameters of the intense waves in groups and those of the medium dispersion and non-linearity as well as the parameters of the calculated solitons in the Korteweg and de Vries equation, are analyzed.
Leonid Heller, The way of craftsmen of our time. Filonov, Platonov, Khlebnikov and some others...
This article is centered around the detection of analogies in the creative processes of the great painter Pavel Filonov and of the great writer Andrei Platonov. These analogies appear gradually in the course of a series of comparisons with "intermediary" artists, in particular with V. Khlebnikov and the poets of Oberiu group. The discovery of the relationship in the approach, transcending the boundaries of their respective artistic domains, leads us to inquire into the reasons of such spiritual kinship, and the eventuality of common aims. The article suggests a new standpoint with regard to Platonov' s work which would include him - as well as Khlebnikov and Filonov - within the framework of the great artistic wave of the 1910' s-1930' s, combining the neo-f iodorovist conception of the universe with the neo-primitivist approach and "artisanal" attitude towards the artistic material resulting in pictural or literary execution based on the concepts of sdvig and distantiation. It is also an endeavour to find an adequate method to render the artistic-cultural atmosphere of Russia during the first three decades of our century.
Heller Leonid. Spatial structure of the temperature and salinity fields in the presence of internal waves on the continental shelf of the states of Jalisco and Colima (Mexico)
A method to filter fluctuations in the hydrophysical properties of the continental shelf, caused by intense internal tides, is proposed. The method is based on a smoothing of the field of the properties analyzed with a filter, the parameters of which are determined by the shape of the spatial correlation function of the field pulsations. The filtering method was tested on data from a fast oceanographic survey, conducted in an area of the monitoring polygon of the waters around Barra de Navidad. The survey was conducted on 25 and 26 November 1995, with an undulating CTD. In one day, 86 vertical profiles of temperature and salinity were obtained from nine transects perpendicular to the coast (survey area of 100 x 25 km) to a depth of 100 m. The filtering algorithm of the internal waves is studied in detail. The field measurements present an analytical shape obtained from an equation in which the elements describe the components: low frequency, pulsating and related to daily behavior. The results of the analysis of the initial temperature and salinity fields with respect to homogeneity and isotropy are discussed, as well as the structural peculiarities of the estimates of the spatial correlation functions. It is observed that the temperature and salinity fields along the shelf, within the limits of the polygon scale, are neither homogenous nor isotropic. The correlation functions of the field pulsations analyzed are more clearly observed in the thermocline. The characteristic scales perpendicular to the coast are smaller than along it. Examples of smoothing the temperature and salinity fields in the thermocline are given
Effect of oxygen on the optical properties of small silicon pyramidal clusters
Optical absorption and light emission of oxygen-incorporated small silicon (Si30H40Oi) pyramidal clusters as a function of oxygen content were theoretically studied using the self-consistent semiempirical molecular orbital method (modified neglect of diatomic overlap—parametric method). In the absolute majority of the cluster configurations with low oxygen content structures, a wide spread of the optical transition energies ranging from 1.60 to 3.00 eV is observed, due to the competition between two opposite tendencies. According to the first one, connected with the increasing of the quantum confinement effects due to oxidation, the optical transition energies tend to increase, whereas the enhanced possibility of involvement of oxygen or oxygen-adjacent silicon atoms in the process tends to decrease the energy transitions
