New constraints on the location of P9 obtained with the INPOP19a planetary ephemeris
Context. We used the new released INPOP19a planetary ephemerides benefiting from Jupiter-updated positions by the Juno mission and reanalyzed Cassini observations. Aims. We test possible locations of the unknown planet P9. To do this, we used the perturbations it produces on the orbits of the outer planets, more specifically, on the orbit of Saturn. Methods. Two statistical criteria were used to identify possible acceptable locations of P9 according to (i) the difference in planetary positions when P9 is included compared with the propagated covariance matrix, and (ii) the χ2 likelihood of postfit residuals for ephemerides when P9 is included. Results. No significant improvement of the residuals was found for any of the simulated locations, but we provide zones that induce a significant degradation of the ephemerides. Conclusions. Based on the INPOP19a planetary ephemerides, we demonstrate that if P9 exists, it cannot be closer than 500 AU with a 5 M⊕ and no closer than 650 AU with a 10 M⊕ . We also show that there is no clear zone that would indicate the positive existence of planet P9, but there are zones for which the existence of P9 is compatible with the 3σ accuracy of the INPOP planetary ephemerides
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Damage detection in composite landing gear component using frequency response method
In this work, the damage identification for a composite landing gear component has been performed by the study of its dynamic behaviour. Fiber optic sensors were used for acquire the vibration signature of the system in its undamaged condition and during a high energy impact. The vibration test on the damaged component underlined a modification on the system response which should be considered for the health status assessment
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. INPOP: evolution, applications, and perspectives
International audienceThe INPOP ephemerides have undergone several improvements since the last INPOP10a release (Fienga et al. 2011). Improvements in the asteroid mass determinations have been made and the effect of the solar corona has also been investigated (Verma et al. 2012). Since 2010 and INPOP10a, in anticipation to IAU resolution B2, the au is fixed in the INPOP construction while the mass of the Sun is fitted. Descriptions of tests of general relativity made with INPOP10a are recalled here. Perspectives about Messenger data analysis and new gravity tests are finally introduced
IMPACT OF HIPPARCOS DATA ON ASTROMETRIC REDUCTION OF SOLAR SYSTEM BODIES A. Fienga
We investigated the improvement of photographic astrometric observations of solar system bodies by use of Hipparcos Catalogue stars, PPM Catalogue stars, and advanced plate reduction procedures. In the plate reductions, we first computed apparent, topocentric coordinates of the date for the reference stars, taking into account effects of refraction, aberration, precession, nutation, etc. In this way, the 6 plate constants, of our linear reduction model, need account for only the instrumental effects of scale, orientation, and zero point. This method is very accurate even if few reference stars are available on the plates. We tested our reduction methods with photographic plates of Jupiter's Galilean satellites, taken with the 26-inch refractor of the U.S. Naval Observatory. The position of Jupiter on the plates was determined from measurements of the Galilean satellites, combined with ephemerides accurate to better than 10 milliarcseconds (mas).
