Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Nietzsche e a técnica da memória
Full text linkThe various memory techniques have privileged the constitution of an institutional apparatus. The Nietzschean project of overvaluing values "‹"‹imposed itself against these dispositions of memory, therefore, it operates in an inverse movement, by promoting techniques that privilege the dissolution of memory in forgetfullness. In order to weaken the institutional moral apparatus and strengthen the project of values "‹"‹that privilege life and its soul dispositions. However, in this Nietzschean project there is an aporia: that of remaining in the sphere of the affirmation of the technique. If, on the one hand, Nietzsche questions all technical mechanisms, namely those related to educational establishments on the other, he does not go beyond this sphere, says the technique through the mechanisms of forgetfulness, when questioning the techniques of memory. To what extent do Nietzsche's writings inspire fruitful reflection to think about technique and its application to memory?As principais considerações acerca das técnicas da memória, expostas no decorrer do artigo, estão focalizadas no acento que concedem ao aparato moral institucional, responsável, em grande parte, pela decadência da cultura. A investigação aponta para a hipótese de que neste projeto nietzschiano mnemónico vigora uma aporia: a de permanecer na esfera da afirmação da técnica, ou seja, da afirmação de todos aqueles procedimentos e aparatos centrados no modo pelo qual algo se realiza. Se, por um lado, Nietzsche questiona todos os mecanismos técnicos, a saber àqueles relativos aos estabelecimentos de ensino por outro, ele não ultrapassa esta esfera, afirma a técnica através dos mecanismos do esquecimento, ao questionar as técnicas de memória. Diante disso, se pergunta: em que medida os escritos de Nietzsche inspiram uma reflexão profícua para pensar a técnica e sua aplicação à memória, de modo a alavancar a cultura, pela superação das tendências da pressa, da especialização e da massificação

A paradoxalidade desta avaliação se depreende da maneira pela qual este jesuíta usa a experiência de vida como uma forma de afirmar o Cristianismo, precisamente pelo estilo de dissimulação aforismática. A acolhida do fato da vida naquilo que ele apresenta de mais duro, é torná-la plena, ou seja, imortal. Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
