Surgical anatomy of the biliary tract
An accurate knowledge of intra-hepatic bile duct ramifications and their variations, as well as the variations in the confluence of the hepatic ducts and their branches, is of crucial importance for hepato-biliary surgeons. Lack of knowledge in this area can lead to serious injury in both conventional hepatectomies and hepatectomies for living donor liver transplantation. Here we review the normal anatomy of the biliary tract as well as the most common anomalies that can be encountered during hepato-biliary surgical procedures
Il fondo Giuseppe Mazzotti
The author illustrates and describes the Giuseppe Mazzotti’s fund that includes the library, the archive and the photographic archive of the literary man of Treviso dead in 1981. Through the report of the work of reorganization and inventory emerge with evidence not only the multiform study interests of Mazzotti but also his working method based on the close relationship among documents, images and publications. A conclusion of a work lasted several years in 2008 the Foundation, set at the donation of the fund by daughter, has established a documentation centre open to the public

Italian culture in the poetry of José Antonio Mazzotti
In the poetic work of José Antonio Mazzotti, a Peruvian author of Italian descent, the presence of the Italian cultural world is a constant that takes shape both in the use of the figure of Dante and the Divine Comedy for the poetization of Peru of the violence of the 1980s, as in mythological references that are updated for a poetic reading of the present. This article aims at analyzing some of the paradigmatic poems of this presence and trace this mythological line, in order to project the presence and relevance of Italy, its culture and its history as a whole, in the poetic work of Mazzotti
Le scene di battaglia dell'Iliade
The review (Oliver Hellmann, Die Schlachtszenen der Ilias: das Bild des Dichters vom Kampf in der Heroenzeit, Franz Steiner Verlag, Stuttgart 2000) focuses on Hellmann?s method in the analysis of the connection between war and heroic society and in the study of the conditions of the recruitment and fighting (formation and organization of troops, tactics, individual duel and mass-attack), although the author admits that Homer?s Iliad is an artistic work and so he gives up the idea of offering a precise and consistent historical description on the grounds of Homeric poetry
Ankle osteoarthritis: current concepts in the treatment
Treatment of ankle osteoarthritis represents a challenge for orthopedic surgeons. Recently, interest has been increasing in both nonoperative and alternative operative options. The new functional demands of patients have prompted a focus on both new fields of therapies, like orthobiology, and the advancement of existing treatments. The purpose of this article was to provide an overview of current concepts in literature about the treatment of ankle osteoarthritis. Despite the literature showed interesting findings, many controversies remain. In particular, studies with a higher level of evidence and a longer follow-up are needed
Multi-Objective Optimization of a Pressure-Temperature Swing Adsorption Process for Biogas Upgrading
Biomethane has been proven to be a valuable alternative to replace fossil fuels. In order to reduce the energetic cost of production, biogas upgrading technologies have to be improved. In this contribution, a temperature/pressure swing adsorption process is proposed to remove CO2from the biogas flow, exploiting a non-conventional material and a suitable adsorption cycle. In such processes, the optimization is a particularly challenging task as it typically involves conflicting objectives, such as energy efficiency and productivity, and non-linear constraints, which enforce the separation targets
MO-MCS: An Efficient Multi-objective Optimization Algorithm for the Optimization of Temperature/Pressure Swing Adsorption Cycles
The optimization of cyclic adsorption processes is a challenging task, and has aroused interest in the context of optimizing CO2 capture processes, where the optimization problem typically involves conflicting objectives, such as energy demand and productivity, and nonlinear constraints which enforce the separation targets. In this contribution we propose a revised version of the multilevel coordinate search algorithm, which can cope with nonlinear constraints and multiple objectives. The algorithm is tested for two different temperature swing adsorption cycles and computational results show that MO-MCS performs better than several publicly available multi-objective methods
The use of the Hirsch index in benchmarking hepatic surgery research
BACKGROUND: The Hirsch index (h-index) is recognized as an effective way to summarize an individual's scientific research output. However, a benchmark for evaluating surgeon scientists in the field of hepatic surgery is still not available.
METHODS: A total of 3,251 authors who published between 1949 and 2011 were identified using the Scopus identification number. The h-index, the total number of cited document, the total number of citations, and the scientific age were calculated for each author using both Scopus and Google Scholar.
RESULTS:The median h-index was 6 and the median scientific age, assessed with Google Scholar, was 19 years. The numbers of cited documents, numbers of citations, and h-indexes obtained from Scopus and Google Scholar showed good correlation with one another; however, the results from the 2 databases were modified in different ways by scientific age. By plotting scientific age against h-index percentiles an h-index growth chart for both Scopus database and Google Scholar was provided.
CONCLUSIONS: This analysis provides a first benchmark to assess surgeon scientists' productivity in the field of liver surgery
