Replication Data for: LAWS IN CONFLICT: Legacies of War, Gender, and Legal Pluralism in Chechnya
How do legacies of conflict affect choices between state and nonstate legal institutions? This article studies this question in Chechnya, where state law coexists with Sharia and customary law. The author focuses on the effect of conflict-induced disruption of gender hierarchies, because nonstate legal orders are explicitly discriminatory against women. The author finds that women in Chechnya are more likely to rely on state law than men and that this gender gap in legal preferences and behavior is especially large in more-victimized communities. The author infers from this that the conflict created the conditions for women in Chechnya to pursue their interests through state law—albeit not without resistance. Women’s legal mobilization has generated a backlash from the Chechen government, which has attempted to reinstate a patriarchal order. The article concludes that such conflict may induce legal mobilization among the weak and that gender might become a central cleavage during state-building processes in postconflict environments

Never Ending Revolutions
This essay will review two books that describe and explain modern revolutions. First one is Handbook of Revolutions in the 21st Century. The New Waves of Revolutions, and the Causes and Effects of Disruptive Political Change edited by Jack A. Goldstone, Leonid Grinin and Andrey Korotayev. The book is a massive collection of 41 diverse chapters from numerous contributors. The book takes on almost every aspect of revolutionary theory and addresses quite a few of very recent revolutionary events, as well as many older ones. Second book is New Wave of Revolutions in the MENA Region. A Comparative Perspective edited by Leonid Issaev and Andrey Korotayev. The book contains 12 chapters from various contributors, each dedicated to a revolutionary episode in a country from the Middle East and Northern Africa region. The book provides an overview of the revolutionary processes in the region that shook the world several years ago with its rapid and unexpected domino-like revolutions. The book demonstrates that revolutions are ongoing in this part of the world
Short-Term Shocks, Long-Term Shifts: Nonviolent Political Movements and Economic Activity
This article aims to shed light on the economic consequences of the nonviolent campaigns (NVCs) across the world. The current era is shaped with various political transformations that are often driven by political movements that engage in NVCs. Some of them are successful and result in regime change while others fail and are unable to reach their goals. At the same time, there is contention among researchers as to what are the outcomes of NVCs. Economic outcomes of NVCs are understudied: some authors state that democratization (which can be a result of a NVCs) can lead to positive economic outcomes, while others believe that NVCs are detrimental to various economic parameters. These critical gaps are addressed in this work by focusing on the establishment of the causal effect of NVCs on economic growth and analyzing its variation depending on campaign’s type– successful, failed or leading to democratization. Our dataset, that enhanced NAVCO 1.3 by addition of previously overlooked cases, encompasses time period from 1950 until 2022. The results show that at average NVCs have a weak, but significant short-term and medium-term negative effect on national income. At the same time, democratizing NVCs do not lead to negative economic outcomes in medium-term albeit there is a negative and insignificant short-term shock. In other words, campaigns that initiate a democratic transition effectively neutralize the long-term negative economic consequences of instability and shock caused by NVCs
Electron emission from H-terminated diamond enhanced by polypyrrole grafting
Electron emission plays an important role in diverse applications, from cold cathodes to chemical processes (solvated electrons, water purification), energy generation (thermionic or dye-sensitized solar cells), and even cancer treatment. Here we show that by surface treatment using electrochemically grown polypyrrole the secondary-electron emission and photoelectron emission from boron-doped diamond is enhanced even above the intensity of electron emission from the hydrogen-terminated surface with negative electron affinity. This enhancement is stable in air for at least one month and it persists also in vacuum after thermal annealing. Scanning electron microscopy, Kelvin probe force microscopy, total photoelectron yield spectroscopy as well as surface mapping by Auger and secondary ion mass spectroscopies are used to characterize and correlate the surface electronic and chemical properties. A model of the electron emission enhancement is provided.
М. Ivan Darushin, Associate Professor Macroeconomic changes of the modern economy cause the risks of different kinds; one of them is a financial risk. Financial risk can be divided into some groups too; and one of these groups is the currency exchange risk. Many companies face the currency risk, but we can see that methods of risk management are not always efficient. The object of that research is a phenomenon of exchange risk, the subject - methods of the efficient currency risk management in non-financial companies using the derivatives. The purpose of that paper is analysis of the main currency risk management instruments including those which are based on the using of derivatives and specification of the problems which are actual for the currency risk management strategies used in the modern Russian economy. While realizing these goals the author determines the concept of the currency risk, discovers some factors which lead to the appearance of the exchange risks of different types. The author uses both theoretical and practical examples of using of the derivatives by the Russian companies in order to reduce the currency risk exposure
IT

This dissertation investigates Soviet rock poetry in the 1980s, a period in which this artistic phenomenon flourished within the unofficial cultural sphere thanks to its creative vitality. The first part consists of two chapters and begins with a theoretical reflection aimed at presenting an overview of the current state of research. Then, a brief history of the movement is provided, outlining its various stages of development. Rock compositions are interpreted as a significant case study of the synthetic artistic trends that emerged during the thaw years, such as declaimed poetry and singer-songwriting. The second part is devoted to an analysis of the textual component, focusing on two key concerts: Aleksandr Bashlachëv's Taganskii Kontsert (1986) and Egor Letov's Prazdnik konchilsia (1990). Here, the aesthetic and literary value of the works is highlighted through an analysis of the motifs and procedures adopted by the authors. In the last chapter, the sources at the origin of the phenomenon (Folklore, Literature, Soviet culture) and its artistic precedents (Author song and Western rock) are highlighted through the prism of selected texts. The aim is to contribute to the heterogeneous historical and artistic scenario that characterised the late Soviet period, maintaining a balance between text and context
