A Florentine family in crisis: the Strozzi in the fifteenth century.
PhDIn 1434 the Strozzi lineage had held a leading position in
Florentine society and government for at least one hundred and fifty
years, and was one of the largest and wealthiest of the city's
patrician lineages. The records of the catasto of 1427 and of the
scrutiny of 1433 are used to give a profile of the dominant social,
economic and political position of the Strozzi before the advent of
Medicean dominance. Their record of electoral success, and the
political and cultural leadership of influential and respected men
such as Palla di Nofri and Matteo di Simone, with other factors, put
the Strozzi amongst the greatest enemies of the victorious Medicean
regime of late 1434. The effects of political opposition and exile
on the lineage are examined both directly, through records of office-holding,
and indirectly through such indicators as marriage alliances
and household wealth. The two most prominent lines of the Strozzi
were exiled after 1434. Palla di Nofri's life and preoccupations in
his Paduan exile are examined, together with the lives of his sons;
none of these Strozzi ever returned to Florence, pursued as they were
by the enmity of the Medicean regime. The very different careers of
Filippo di Matteo and his brother Lorenzo are also examined: how they
succeeded in founding a lucrative bank in Naples, and in returning to
Florence to 'rebuild' (rifare) the position of the Strozzi lineage
there. The final decades of the century saw the Strozzi in an
economically more secure position, due substantially to the efforts
of Filippo. Except for a very small number of its members admitted
into the regime, most of the lineage is here shown to have remained
excluded from significant political office until after the fall of
the Medici regime in 1494
Selected letters of Alessandra Strozzi
The letters of Alessandra Strozzi provide a vivid and spirited portrayal of life in fifteenth-century Florence. Among the richest autobiographical materials to survive from the Italian Renaissance, the letters reveal a woman who fought stubbornly to preserve her family's property and position in adverse circumstances, and who was an acute observer of Medicean society. Her letters speak of political and social status, of the concept of honor, and of the harshness of life, including the plague and the loss of children. They are also a guide to Alessandra's inner life over a period of twenty-three years, revealing the pain and sorrow, and, more rarely, the joy and triumph, with which she responded to the events unfolding around her. This edition includes translations, in full or in part, of 35 of the 73 extant letters. The selections carry forward the story of Alessandra's life and illustrate the range of attitudes, concerns, and activities which were characteristic of their author
Filiroe e i suoi poeti: da Tito Strozzi a Ludovico Ariosto
The paper shows how the love between Tito Vespasiano Strozzi and Constanza dal Canale – Filliroe – has served as an example to poets and humanists of the time, such as Ercole Strozzi, Tito’s son, the author known as Anonimo Costabili, Matteo Maria Boiardo, Ludovico Lazzarelli, Girolamo Balbi, Marcantonio Aldegati and, last but not least, Ludovico Ariosto. Through the recovery of the figure of Filliroe, through the use of same expressions or sources, the article seeks to show how a brief (but beautifully exposed) love affair can generate an appreciable literary fortune in the context of Humanism and Renaissance
106 TFUE)
Information processing and management using citation network and keyword analysis to perform a systematic literature review on green supply chain management
The field of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) has recently gained considerable attention from both academics and practitioners. This has caused an exponential growth in the number of publications related to different aspects of sustainability in the supply chain. This study aims to show information processing and management techniques, to reveal the evolution of a field over time and identify directions for future research. In particular, this paper is intended to provide a systematic literature review using citation network and the analysis of words in titles and author keyword through burst detection algorithm. Crossing the results of the citation network and burst detection algorithm it was possible to monitor the evolution of the sustainability drivers and to identify the necessity of new key performance indicators of sustainability, able to integrate the economic, environmental and social dimensions, internally within the organization, and externally among the supply chain partners. The contribution of this study lies in the adoption of a blind methodology to analyze theory development which have not been yet applied to the field of GSCM but proved to be useful and promising
On Developing Tangible Interfaces for Video Streaming Control: a Real Case Study
This paper presents a novel tangible user interface for the dynamic control and manipulation of multiple video streams. Streams can be activated, triggered and managed based on the physical use of markers attached to cubes on a table top, whose movement is recognized by a camera placed on top of the working area. Markers can be associated to a single video stream, as well as a group of streams. Videostreams can be played out, paused, stopped, put in foreground, maximized or minimized, thanks to the use of our tangible interface; audio volumes of different streams can be controlled. Needless to say, streams can be distributed at different servers, or dynamically generated at distributed nodes in real-time. We claim that such an interface results as quite intuitive and easy-to-use, and can be employed in several videostreaming-based application domains, such as tele-conferencing, video-on-demand, video mixing. Results coming from an experimental assessment confirm the viability of our approach
Mothers at Home, Writing Letters: Alessandra Strozzi and Margaret Paston
Alessandra Strozzi of Florence and Margaret Paston of Norfolk were near fifteenth-century contemporaries. They were stay-at-home mothers who served as the touchstone for family affairs, a process we can follow in detail because each was the author of about 100 letters, mostly to the absent men of their families. The letters – with Alessandra’s now available, thanks to a recent scholarly translation – open a window into women’s literacy, styles of expression, interest in matters of daily life, such as the plague, the purchase of household goods, and the marital prospects of children whose marital choices worried their mothers
Simulation-based Analysis of Experimental 5G NR Downlink CSI-RSRP-based Handover Performance
In the last years, 5G New Radio (NR), introduced in 2019 in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 15, has become the global radio standard for 5G networks. The increasing number of available 5G gNodeBs (gNBs) makes handover management crucial, especially from the point of view of the Quality of Experience (QoE) of a User Equipment (UE). In order to analyse the handover behaviour in 5G networks, we derive a Matlab-based simulator for location-based handover management. As a first step, an accurate simulation model of an experimental 5G NR communication system is derived. In detail, the performance results are expressed in terms of Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) 5G NR signal quality metric, measured on the Channel State Information (CSI) Reference Signal (RS) on a DownLink (DL) transmission from a gNB to a mobile UE. In order to derive an accurate simulator, we rely on an experimental testbed based on the use of a commercial wireless 5G embedded modem positioned in a moving vehicle and collecting geolocalized RSRP values
Su un sonetto di Ercole Strozzi già attribuito a Baldassar Castiglione
The sonnet Euro gentil, che gli aurei crespi nodi has been ascribed to Baldassar
Castiglione since the edition printed by Gabriel Giolito, Rime disperse, in 1545. Not long after
Giovan Battista Giraldi Cinzio, in his Discorso intorno al comporre dei romanzi (1554), suggested
Ercole Strozzi (1471-1508) to be the real author of the sonnet. In spite of that, Euro
gentil has been included in Castiglione’s vulgata until modern days. The article investigates the
tradition of the sonnet, which include six MSS witnesses; five of them attribute it to Strozzi. A
new edition of Strozzi’s lyric poems is provided, with new readings from 16th century MSS.
Two previously unknown Strozzi’s sonnets are published from MS. Piacenza, Bibl. Passerini-
Landi, Pallastrelli 230. The double tradition of Euro gentil is reviewed and the text compared
with the rest of Strozzi’s vernacular poetry, showing the most important common features
