Integration once again: The Brazilian Northeast in the context of EU-Mercosul trade relations
No full textIntegration has meant great changes for Brazilian Northeast since its becoming part of the regional division of labour that allowed the constitution of a single domestic production system in the country in the 1950s. This process required the Northeastern economy to adjust to the extent of embarking into new industrial sectors and dismantling old industrial capacity, such as textiles. This adjustment has however developed the region's industrial capacity and competitiveness which allowed it to improve exports - both foreign and interregional - and reduce its so-called "structural" trade deficit in the 1980s. This context has changed by the constitution of the South American Common Market - the Mercosul. The new trade block has inspired northeastern polititians and diverse analysts to argue that the regional economy is to become less important for Brazilian domestic market and production system, as the interindustrial links are to enhance among southern and southeastern firms. Government expenditures as well as private investments concentrated in these regions gives them the explanation for their belief. The recent moves towards increasing the commercial links between the European Union and the Mercosul bring new facts to the context. The Northeast could emerge as holding competitive advantages out of this integration process into which the Brazilian economy is getting. There could be argued that the region's historical backwardness could decrease in the context of fusions, acquisitions and the like by European capital? Would not this be the case of moving backwards to the period in which there was no integrated domestic market and the Northeast, as other regions in Brazil, basically traded with European partners. These are the main questions this paper is to answer.
L-arginine Enhances Muscle Regeneration After Experimental Envenomation By B. Jararacussu: A Future For Nitric Oxide-based Therapy?
No full textWe investigated whether muscle fiber regeneration would be rescued by exogenous administration of l-arginine, the precursor of endogenous synthesis of nitric oxide. The right tibialis anterioris muscle of adult mice (n = 20) was injected with 80 μg of venom. One group of mice (n = 10) received drinking water containing l-arginine (3.75 mg/ml) and another group (n = 10) did not receive any pharmacological treatment. Two months later, muscle regeneration was evaluated by counting the total number of muscle fibers. We found that in l-arginine-treated mice, muscle regeneration was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than in saline-treated (2.230 ± 478 muscle fibers versus 1.005 ± 134, respectively) although the level of muscle fiber population of uninjured tibialis anterioris muscle (3.121 ± 102) was not attained. These results show that muscle regeneration was significantly facilitated by l-arginine and suggest that pharmacological activators of the NO pathway may be potentially useful for improving muscle regeneration in human envenomation by B. jararacussu. © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Jornalismo, história e memória: análise da cobertura jornalística do incidente na Pacheco Fernandes em Brasília no Governo JK
No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Jornalismo, Florianópolis, 2010Esta dissertação faz uma análise empírica de notícias publicadas em jornais, de fevereiro de 1959, sobre o incidente no acampamento da construtora Pacheco Fernandes Dantas. Busca-se constatar se este episódio foi apurado jornalisticamente pelos veículos de comunicação impressos da época, comparando os conteúdos publicados. Propõe-se a discussão deste caso na condição de paradigma ou referência para outras ocorrências similares em que o jornalismo deixa de cumprir seu papel social, de investigador e questionador do Poder Público. Assim, discute-se neste trabalho sobre a importância do jornalismo para elucidar ocorrências como esta que foram esquecidas pela historiografia oficial. E, principalmente, sobre a responsabilidade social do jornalista, a partir do rigor da apuração e da verificação, de ser um mediador da realidade e não um mero reprodutor de versões. Discute-se aqui o jornalismo enquanto atividade fundamental para a construção da História e da memória social. Sem o registro imediato do jornalista o trabalho do historiador torna-se mais difícil. O registro do cotidiano realizado pelo jornalista está ligado à construção histórica e à memória social que permanece.This dissertation makes an empirical analysis of news published in newspapers of February 1959, about the incident at the construction camp of Pacheco Fernandes Dantas Company. It aims at searching if this episode was journalistically investigated by the media of that time, through the comparison of the published content. This work proposes the discussion of the case as a paradigm or reference for other similar occurrences in which Journalism fails to fulfill its social role as a government investigator and questioner. Thus, this paper discusses the importance of journalism to elucidate events like this which have been forgotten by the official historiography, and mainly, on the social responsibility of the journalist, through its investigation and verification rigor as a mediator of reality and not a mere version copyist. It discusses the journalism as a fundamental activity for the construction of social memory and history. With no immediate reports of journalist work of the historian becomes more difficult. Crescimento e fenologia de espécies de Jatropha durante a estação chuvosa.
No full textJatropha curcas L., Jatropha mollissima (Pohl) Baill e Jatropha gossypiifolia L. são Euforbiáceas com potencial para produção de biodiesel e uso na indústria farmacêutica e em cosméticos. Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliá-las em termos de crescimento e fenologia em pesquisa de campo. Adotou-se o delineamento experimental em blocos casualisados contendo na parcela 18 plantas e tendo área útil de 15 m². Nos estudos fenológicos das plantas foram consideradas as seguintes fases: estabelecimento/crescimento vegetativo, floração, frutificação e maturação/colheita. As fases fenológicas das espécies diferiram cronologicamente. Jatropha mollissima cresceu mais do que as outras espécies em altura de plantas enquanto Jatropha curcas cresceu mais em diâmetro caulinar. As maiores taxas de crescimento relativo em altura de plantas ocorreram durante o crescimento vegetativo com os maiores valores sendo registrados em Jatropha mollissima enquanto as maiores taxas de crescimento relativo, também no crescimento vegetativo, foram registradas em Jatropha curcas. As menores taxas de crescimento relativo em altura de plantas e diâmetro caulinar das espécies estudadas coincidiram com as fases reprodutivas
Goodwill: uma análise a partir dos artigos publicados nos principais congressos nacionais de contabilidade no período de 2000 a 2006

Curso de Ciências ContábeisUm dos temas da contabilidade que vem aparecendo com destaque no meio acadêmico e empresarial é o goodwill, que, de acordo com diversos autores é o mais intangível entre os ativos intangíveis. Apesar desse interesse, a abordagem sobre goodwill tem gerado muitas discussões acerca de seu conceito e avaliação, bem como, a forma de sua evidenciação pelas organizações. Com o objetivo de contribuir positivamente para estas discussões, este trabalho surge com o objetivo de sistematizar e analisar as diferentes percepções e configurações sobre este tema. Neste intuito, verifica publicações recentes dos principais congressos brasileiros de contabilidade, bem como, na Revista Contabilidade & Finanças da USP, editadas no período entre 2000 e 2006. Os principais resultados deste percurso revelam que no ano de 2004 este tema se apresentou com bastante ênfase e foi muito debatido pelos pesquisadores, onde, na pesquisa, três deles mereceram destaque com maior número de trabalhos publicados, observa-se ainda, que a maioria destes possui mais de quatro autores. Revela também a importância dos autores brasileiros, que se destacam nas citações bibliográficas dos artigos pesquisados, onde se observou empenho pouco superior nas pesquisas teóricas e na apresentação dos conceitos sobre goodwill, que ainda não tem uma definição amplamente aceita
Potentiometric Biosensor For L-ascorbic Acid Based On Ascorbate Oxidase Of Natural Source Immobilized On Ethylene-vinylacetate Membrane
No full textThe development of a potentiometric biosensor for L-ascorbic acid based on ascorbate oxidase is described. The enzyme was extracted of the epicarp of Cucumis sativus L. fruit and immobilized in a graphite/epoxy electrode by occlusion in a poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) matrix (EVA 40%m/m). The electrode showed a sub-Nerntian response (slope of 50.3±0.6mV), between 8.0x10-6 and 4.5x10-4moll-1 for ascorbate, when 0.1moll-1 KH2PO4 buffer at pH 5.0 and 25.0°C was employed. The biosensor was continuously tested, during 15 days (about 300 analyses), and no decrease in the response was observed, for vitamin C determination in pharmaceuticals samples, without any previous treatment. The biosensor was stable for at least 1 month when stored in a refrigerator. The relative standard deviation was about 4% compared to the spectrophotometric method. The response time was about 5min at room temperature. No full textO objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar o N fi xado e a produtividade de variedades de feijão-caupi [Vigna unguiculata L. (Walp)] recomendadas para a região Nordeste em função da associação com rizóbios nativos ou da inoculação com estirpes recomendadas nacionalmente para a cultura. Foi realizado um experimento em campo, no Campo Experimental de Bebedouro, pertencente à Embrapa Semiárido, seguindo-se um arranjo fatorial em que foram testadas dez variedades cultivadas, com ou sem inoculação ou recebendo adubação nitrogenada (80 kg.ha-1 N, na forma de ureia), além de um tratamento controle absoluto. As estimativas das quantidades de N fi xado foram realizadas aos 45 DAP e a produção de grãos ao fi nal do ciclo da cultura. Inoculações podem aumentar a produtividade e a quantidade de N fi xado no feijão-caupi cultivado em solos do Semiárido. Entretanto, existem respostas diferenciadas das variedades às diferentes estirpes recomendadas e à adubação nitrogenada. Mesmo após a coleta dos grãos, todas as variedades são capazes de adicionar N ao sistema de cultivo, desde que sua palhada seja deixada no solo
