Considerations on Xi- reconstruction in LHCb
This paper describes an alternative method of charged hyperon reconstruction applicable to the LHCb experiment. It extends the seminal work of the FOCUS collaboration to the specific detector layout of LHCb and addresses the reconstruction ambiguities reported in their earlier work, leading to improvements in the reconstruction efficiency for the specific cases of Xi- and Omega- baryon decays to a charged meson and a Lambda baryon. This paper describes an alternative method of charged hyperon reconstruction applicable to the LHCb experiment.
In December 1986 the Quebec government passed the Forest Act in order to replace the former regime of lumber concessions by a new administrative agreement called The Timber Supply and Forest Management Agreement, intended to combine resource renewal and adequate supply for industry. The author first outlines the legislative history of forest management in Quebec, points out the strong and weak points of former regimes and introduces the present regime as an improved combination of the various types of previous management. Finally, the author casts the analysis of this new agreement in the light of general principles applicable to public administrative agreements
Mechanical properties and biocompatibility of poly(methyl methacrylate) bone cement containing microencapsulated tissue adhesive
One of the most broadly reported self-healing schemes is that pioneered by White and Sottos et al. in which a polymer matrix is co-embedded with a catalyst and microcapsules containing a reactive healing agent. Although this field has been steadily growing over the past 10 years, little discussion of extension into biomaterials has taken place and none of the existing systems employ materials acceptable for in vivo applications. Due to its long history of use, lack of postpolymerization modifications, and susceptibility to fatigue failure, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) bone cement is an attractive option for the first self-healing biomaterial designed utilizing the aforementioned embedded capsule and catalyst approach. Interfacial polymerization of a polyurethane prepolymer with 1,4-butanediol was performed to encapsulate 2-octyl cyanoacrylate (OCA), an FDA-approved tissue adhesive, using an oil-in-water emulsion. The compressive, tensile, and fracture toughness properties of commercial PMMA matrices containing various wt% of capsules were investigated. The proliferation and viability of MG63 human osteosarcoma cells following various exposure times to extracts from OCA, capsuleembedded bone cement, and bone cement without capsules were also examined. Incorporation of greater than 5 wt% capsules reduced the compressive and tensile strengths below commercially-accepted standards for bone cement. Fracture toughness, K, was increased by 13% with the inclusion of 3 wt% capsules but was decreased below the control value with contents of 15 wt% and higher. Additionally, cellular viability and proliferation were similar in cells exposed to media conditioned with commercial and capsule-embedded bone cements, suggesting the addition of capsules to the bone cement does not have a detrimental effect on the toxicity of the material

Enhancement of promotional potential: a hypothesis
Management literature has typically stressed abilities,
learned skills and traits as characteristics which, if
possessed, will ultimately lead to promotion. The author
hypothesizes that because promotions are granted by superiors
and organizations, it is their views of promotion potential
that are germane to an individual's opportunity. Furthermore,
the importance of the superior and the organization to
the promotion process is directly related to the level of the
manager seeking advancement. Two hypotheses are explored,
which if confirmed, would help an individual enhance his promotion
potential. Industry might utilize the same hypotheses
to examine the merits of its promotion criteria.Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited.Commander, Supply Corps, United States Navyhttp://archive.org/details/enhancementofpro109451842
This postulate, defended by Jacques Testart, a reproductive biologist and critic of science, invites us to reflect on the involvement of citizens in decision-making processes concerning various social issues. He presents the convention of citizens as a procedure to debate and elaborate opinions in the name of the interest of humanity and the common good. The author presents the main stages of this convention and compares two of them to Quebec approaches: the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement (BAPE) and the consultation of stakeholders. The comparative exercise highlights the differences between the procedures while opening the way to new practices of territorial ethics. The central question is to determine how a community can choose, and according to what modalities, the values guiding the development of their territory? There are resistances and the multiplication of experiences would be an interesting way to experiment in different territorial scales (local, supra-local and regional)
MICROWAVE SPECTRUM OF 2-METHOXYETHANOL
Author Institution: Centre de Recherches sur les Atomes et les Mol\'{e}cules, Universit\'{e} LavalThe microwave spectrum of has been analysed in the 8 - 26.5 GHz region. The rotational constants for the ground state are, in MHz: A = 12982.35, B = 2742.48 and C = 2468.10. The total diple moment determined from Stark effect measurements is 2.36 D. The constants and dipole moment components of the normal species, together with the hydroxyl hydrogen coordinates obtained from the spectra of the OD species, indicate that the conformation is gauche-gauche about the C-C and the C-OH bonds. This conformation is stabilized by an intra-molecular hydrogen bond as in several other 2-substituted ethanols. Spectra of three excited vibrational states have also been analysed
Developing Overall Equipment Effectiveness Metrics for Prototype Precision Manufacturing
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is a powerful metric of manufacturing performance incorporating measures of the utilisation, yield and efficiency of a given process, machine or manufacturing line. When associated with the reasons for performance loss, OEE provides the means to compare and prioritise improvement efforts. This research assesses the current systems used in the high-volume production lines of Company-X, a precision manufacturer of computer components. This assessment led to the design of a singular methodology that functions in a high-volume production environment, in the rapid prototyping production, and the program qualification production divisions of Company-X. The methodology defined indicators (Utilisation, Efficiency and Yield), and factors that must be recorded on an individual piece of equipment within a manufacturing line to determine its OEE. These equipment-level records were captured utilising the equipment’s computer-controller, supplemented by minimal user input, to minimise the non-value added activities associated with data-entry. The methodology also determined the means to aggregate the records to prioritize improvement activities (Weighted OEE Pareto) and calculate the manufacturing lines overall performance (Overall Line Effectiveness)
Molecular evidence that phoronids are a subtaxon of brachiopods (Brachiopoda: Phoronata) and that genetic divergence of metazoan phyla began long before the early Cambrian
Concatenated SSU (18S) and partial LSU (28S) sequences (~2 kb) from 12 ingroup taxa, comprising 2 phoronids, 2 members of each of the craniid, discinid, and lingulid inarticulate brachiopod lineages, and 4 rhynchonellate, articulate brachiopods (2 rhynchonellides, 1 terebratulide and 1 terebratellide) were aligned with homologous sequences from 6 protostome, deuterostome and sponge outgroups (3964 sites). Regions of potentially ambiguous alignment were removed, and the resulting data (3275 sites, of which 377 were parsimony-informative and 635 variable) were analysed by parsimony, and by maximum and Bayesian likelihood using objectively selected models. There was no base composition heterogeneity. Relative rate tests led to the exclusion (from most analyses) of the more distant outgroups, with retention of the closer pectinid and polyplacophoran (chiton). Parsimony and likelihood bootstrap and Bayesian clade support values were generally high, but only likelihood analyses recovered all brachiopod indicator clades designated a priori. All analyses confirmed the monophyly of (brachiopods+phoronids) and identified phoronids as the sister-group of the three inarticulate brachiopod lineages. Consequently, a revised Linnean classification is proposed in which the subphylum Linguliformea comprises three classes: Lingulata, ‘Phoronata’ (the phoronids), and ‘Craniata’ (the current subphylum Craniiformea). Divergence times of all nodes were estimated by regression from node depths in non-parametrically rate-smoothed and other chronograms, calibrated against palaeontological data, with probable errors not less than 50 My. Only three predicted brachiopod divergence times disagree with palaeontological ages by more than the probable error, and a reasonable explanation exists for at least two. Pruning long-branched ingroups made scant difference to predicted divergence time estimates. The palaeontological age calibration and the existence of Lower Cambrian fossils of both main brachiopod clades together indicate that initial genetic divergence between brachiopod and molluscan (chiton) lineages occurred well before the Lower Cambrian, suggesting that much divergence between metazoan phyla took place in the Proterozoic
Dropping the weight bias: evaluating weight bias reduction strategies for late adolescents
Bias against higher body-weight individuals is a significant social problem. It is pervasive and associated with numerous negative psychological, social, physical, and behavioral consequences for those who experience it (see Puhl & Suh, 2015; Puhl et al., 2015). The internalization of negative weight attitudes (i.e., self-directed stigma) is also associated with increased psychological distress (e.g., anxiety, depression) and disordered eating (O’Brien et al., 2016). Given the aforementioned negative consequences, reduction of these negative attitudes is warranted. The current dissertation tested the effectiveness of three different theory-based weight bias reduction strategies: exposure to counter-stereotypic higher body-weight media models (study one), counter-stereotypic focused mental imagery (study two), and indirectly through a body gratitude exercise (study three). Results for study one indicated that participants in the counter-stereotypic video condition did not report significantly lower implicit or explicit weight bias when compared to participants in the neutral video condition. Results for study two indicated that participants in the counter-stereotypic mental imagery condition reported significantly lower negative weight attitudes when compared with participants in the stereotypic and neutral mental imagery conditions. Results for study three indicated that participants in the body gratitude condition reported significantly higher body and appearance satisfaction and significantly lower internalized weight bias when compared to the neutral condition. However, no significant differences were found between the groups for reported levels of weight bias. Implications and future research directions for each of these studies are discussed.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesby Jamie Lynn Dunaevincludes vit
