Una piazza sull'acqua. Come concludere il Gran Viale del Lido di Venezia sul bordo della laguna

    No full text

Experimental investigation of a mesoscale combustor

    No full text
Our research work is currently focused on centimeter scale combustors, usually referred to as meso-scale combustors, and delivering about 100 W of thermal power. When compared to macroscale systems the micro devices operate at lower Reynolds. Under this condition the turbulent contribution to mixing processes could be scarce or even totally absent, on the other side at the millimiter scale pure diffusive processes could be too slow to be effective. When scaling down conventional combustors the conversion of chemical energy into thermal can be severely limited by the reduction in the residence time, and in the worst case it can be totally prevented. The size reduction will imply also larger heat losses, with two main consequences: a decline in the overall combustion efficiency and a reduction of the reaction temperatures. The latter effect narrows the stability limits of the combustor by increasing the kinetic reaction times. Therefore a proper management and understanding of the thermo chemical issues connected to size reduction are mandatory in order to realize operational and efficient meso-combustors

Performance of BIL tracking chambers for the ATLAS muon spectrometer

    No full text
Tracking in the muon spectrometer of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider is based on high pressure drift tubes. The performance of Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) chambers has been extensively studied with cosmic rays at the Roma Tre test site. Results on chamber calibration and resolution with varying operating conditions, such as gas composition and temperature, have been investigated. The improvement of spatial resolution using the measurement of a fraction of the collected charge is also discussed

Assembly and test of the BIL tracking chambers for the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer

    No full text
We describe the assembly procedure and the performance tests of 62 high pressure drift tube chambers, MDT that equip the inner ring of the Muon Barrel Spectrometer of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The uniformity of response of the drift tubes and the tracking performance of the chambers were measured with cosmic rays and compared with the results obtained with high momentum muons. THE TIME-OF-FLIGHT TOFW DETECTOR OF THE HARP EXPERIMENT: CONSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE

    No full text
The construction and performance of a large area scintillator-based time-of-flight detector for the HARP experiment at CERN are reported. An intrinsic counter time resolution of ∼160 ps was achieved. The precision on the time calibration and monitoring of the detector was maintained at better than 100 ps by using dedicated cosmic rays runs, a fast laser-based system and calibrations with beam particles. The detector was operated on the T9 PS beamline during 2001 and 2002. A time-of-flight resolution of ∼200 ps was obtained, providing π/p discrimination at more than 3σ up to 4.0 GeV/c momentum

The construction and performance of a large area scintillator-based time-of-flight detector for the HARP experiment at CERN are reported. An intrinsic counter time resolution of similar to 160 ps was achieved. The precision on the time calibration and monitoring of the detector was maintained at better than 100 ps by using dedicated cosmic rays runs, a fast laser-based system and calibrations with beam particles. The detector was operated on the T9 PS beamline during 2001 and 2002.
