This doctoral thesis, which deals with the issue of cross-cultural communication, brings to light a basic continuity between the linguistic aspects of phenomena and their socio-cultural properties. The analysis is divided into three parts, starting with the critical study of the concept of culture, as it is (generally) defined in the human and social sciences. The second part focuses on the concept of communication and shows how very different these viewpoints, whether inter- or intra-disciplinary, can be, even when the analysis is restricted to the verbal data of the communication process. It was then concluded that it was necessary to have recourse to a pragmatic theory, which would enable the notion of action to be taken into consideration. However, it was found that non Peircean linguistic pragmatics did not attribute their full significance to the notions of subject and dialogical exchange of meanings, with the result that the sense usually attached to the notion of utterance-subject was not satisfactory. Consequently, in the third part, the author used the basic concepts of representamen, sign and semiosis to demonstrate - after analysing, both semiotically and semiosically, a play by Abdellatif Laâbi, the famous Moroccan novelist, poet and playwright, entitled Rimbaud and Sheherazade that the play itself can rightfully be considered to be an allegorical representation of intercultural communication.PERPIGNAN-BU Lettres-Sc.humaines (661362102) / SudocSudocFranceF
Why has Jean Forton a French novelist published by Gallimard from 1954 to 1966, hailed by the critics of the time and a one-time Goncourt Prize runner fallen into near-oblivion ? To answer this question, we have examined the evolution of the way his works have been received from 1951 to this day, through both the national and regional press, with a view to clarifying the influence of events, critiques and literary context. By examining Forton s varied editorial fortunes, we try to determine whether the fact of living in the provinces has an effect on the fame of an author. The last part of our dissertation deals with a number of hypotheses concerning the future reception of Jean Forton s works. We take into account the recent and current upheavals within the world of publishing, the increasingly confined status accorded to French literature worldwide, as well as the changes in readers attitudes to literature.LE MANS-BU Lettres (721812108) / SudocSudocFranceF
Roadmap to the multidisciplinary design analysis and optimisation of wind energy systems
A research agenda is described to further encourage the application of Multidisciplinary Design Analysis and Optimisation (MDAO) methodologies to wind energy systems. As a group of researchers closely collaborating within the International Energy Agency (IEA) Wind Task 37 for Wind Energy Systems Engineering: Integrated Research, Design and Development, we have identified challenges that will be encountered by users building an MDAO framework. This roadmap comprises 17 research questions and activities recognised to belong to three research directions: model fidelity, system scope and workflow architecture. It is foreseen that sensible answers to all these questions will enable to more easily apply MDAO in the wind energy domain. Beyond the agenda, this work also promotes the use of systems engineering to design, analyse and optimise wind turbines and wind farms, to complement existing compartmentalised research and design paradigms
Molecular and classical cytogenetic analyses demonstrate an apomorphic reciprocal chromosomal translocation in Gorilla gorilla
The existence of an apomorphic reciprocal chromosomal translocation in the gorilla lineage has been asserted or denied by various cytogeneticists. We employed a new molecular cytogenetic strategy (chromosomal in situ suppression hybridization) combined with high-resolution banding, replication sequence analysis, and fluorochrome staining to demonstrate that a reciprocal translocation between ancestral chromosomes homologous to human chromosome 5 and 17 has indeed occurred
