Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Hydroelastic analysis of partially or totally immersed Mindlin plates with a hybrid isogeometric-based approach

    No full text
In this study, the dynamic characteristics of a cantilevered Mindlin plate, partially or totally in contact with fluid on both sides, are examined using the proposed hybrid isogeometric finite element – boundary element framework. The interaction problem is divided into two parts through the implementation of the linear hydroelasticity theory, allowing for the independent treatment of structural and fluid problems. In the structural part of the analysis, the thick plate is modeled as first-order shear deformable by adopting Reissner–Mindlin plate theory, with the material assumed to be homogeneous and isotropic. The resulting eigenvalue problem is then solved by the isogeometric finite element method (IGAFEM). In the second part of the analysis, assuming the fluid is ideal and incorporating the in vacuo dynamic characteristics as boundary conditions, fluid-structure interaction effects are determined by the isogeometric boundary element method (IGABEM) in terms of generalized added mass coefficients. Subsequently, parametric studies for various plate thicknesses and submergence depths are conducted. The analysis reveals that wet natural frequencies differ noticeably from their in vacuo counterparts due to the presence of the free surface of the fluid. In addition, the effect of the radiated free surface waves from the vibrating structure are included into the mathematical model by imposing linearized free surface condition, through the frequency-dependent added mass and hydrodynamic damping effects of the fluid. The numerical accuracy of the proposed approach is verified against the commercial finite element software ANSYS, showing favourable agreement in the predicted natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes

Introduction: Regular physical activity reduces the risk of diabetes-related complications and improves the quality of life in individuals with type 1 diabetes. It is unclear whether children with type 1 diabetes have avoidance from physical activity and what factors play a role in this behavior. Aim: This study aimed to determine the physical activity avoidance behavior and related factors of children with type 1 diabetes between the ages of 9 and 18 who are followed up in Ege University Faculty of Medicine Child Endocrinology Unit. Material Method: The universe of this cross-sectional study consisted of 116 children between the ages of 9-18 with type 1 diabetes who were diagnosed at least 6 months ago and had no additional chronic diseases, who were followed up in Ege University Faculty of Medicine Pediatric Endocrinology Unit between August 2019 and February 2020. It was aimed to reach the universe of the study. Totally, 92 cases were included in the study, with 24 children not participating in their routine control. Rate is 79%. For this research, a data collecting form including 42 questions was used. Physical activity behavior has been evaluated in 4 different areas. The frequencies of active play on the street or at home, participation in physical education classes, participation in active activities in physical education classes, and active play during breaks were evaluated with a 5-point Likert scale (never, rarely, occasionally, often, always); and never, rarely or occasional responses were defined as having avoidance behavior. In analytical evaluation, avoidance behavior was analyzed with chi-square (ᵪ) tests, and logistic regression was used for parameters with statistically significant correlations. Significance level was accepted as 0.05 in all analyzes. Results: The mean age of the children covered by the research is 14.08 ± 2.63. 73.9% of them attend public school, the education level of 46.8% of the mothers is middle school and below, and the family income level is at the middle and below level for 65.2%. The mean duration of diagnosis of type 1 diabetes is 6.55 ± 3.84 years, and 80.4% of them have never been hospitalized in the last 1 year. Mean diabetes knowledge score is 7.78 ± 2.01, and the least correct answer (54.3% correct answer) is how many minutes of physical activity a week should be done. In the study, avoidance rate of active game-playing activities during breaks is 52.2%. Subsequently, 46.7% of the group avoided playing active games on the street or at home, 25% of the group avoided participating in active activities in physical education classes, and 15.2% of those who avoided physical education classes. The 14-18 age group avoids participation in physical education lessons (6.55 ± 1.10-39.0) and active play during breaks (2.85 ± 1.05-7.71). Girls avoid active play activities on the street or at home (2.88 ± 1.06-7.83) and during breaks (4.11 ± 1.48-12.40). Children whose mothers have a primary education or below avoid active play (3.63 ± 1.15-11.46) during breaks. Those with poor or very poor family income avoid participating in physical education classes (14.98 ± 2.24-99.98) and participating in active activities in physical education lessons (4.63 ± 0.95-22.52). Conclusion: In this study, it was concluded that the 14-18 years of age group, female gender, middle school and lower education level of mothers and poor or very poor family income increased the risk of avoiding physical activity. It can be planned to correct these attitudes of the group aged 14 and older, who become sedentary with adolescence, with reminder and stimulating trainings on the place and benefits of physical activity in diabetes management. The increased risk of adolescent girls with type 1 diabetes should be examined in the context of gender and efforts should be carried out to eliminate the obstacles to physical activity of young girls. It should be ensured that activities are carried out during physical education lessons and that children with type 1 diabetes are encouraged to exercise during the lesson. Studies to understand mothers' knowledge gaps and anxieties can contribute to the solution of the problem. Eliminating the deficiencies of parents and school staff in the management of diabetes and acute complications and reducing their concerns, if any, will be beneficial in reducing children's physical activity avoidance behavior

Author Under Sail The Imagination of Jack London, 1893-1902

    No full text
In Author Under Sail, Jay Williams offers the first complete literary biography of Jack London as a professional writer engaged in the labor of writing. It examines the authorial imagination in London's work, the use of imagination in both his fiction and nonfiction, and the ways he defined imagination in the creative process in his business dealings with his publishers, editors, and agents. In this first volume of a two-volume biography, Williams traverses the years 1893 to 1902, from London's "Story of a Typhoon" to The People of the Abyss. The Jack London who emerges in the pages of Author Under Sail is a writer whose partnership with publishers, most notably his productive alliance with George Brett of Macmillan, was one of the most formative in American literary history. London pioneered many author models during the heyday of realism and naturalism, blurring the boundaries of these popular genres by focusing on absorption and theatricality and the representation of the seen and unseen. London created an impassioned, sincere, and extremely personal realism unlike that of other American writers of the time. Author Under Sail is a literary tour de force that reveals the full range of London as writer, creative citizen, and entrepreneur at the same time it sheds light on the maverick side of machine-age literature.Intro -- Title Page -- Copyright Page -- Dedication -- Contents -- Acknowledgments -- Introduction -- 1. Article 328 paragrapf 2 of Turkish Civil Code constitutes the basis of the contribution which the major child demands from his parents as the continue of his education. This contribution is to be considered as maintenance contribution by type and is ruled by provisions of article 327 cont. Civil Code. According to these provisions, to decide on contribution in favor of the major child, besides the fact that the parents duty of maintenance continue after majority, the conditions regarding to claim for contribution should also be fulfilled. The continue of the duty of maintenance after majority, depends on the condition that the education of the child has not yet completed andconscionable for parents to meet the child s expenses. The education mentioned, is a general and vocational education that corresponds to the child s abilities and inclinations in accordance with TMK m. 340/II. Duty of maintenance after majority is conscionable for parents only if besides their financial power, also their personal relations with child is in a degree that justifies such devotion. Regarding to the claim for contribution, the condition to be examined relates to the right to sue. As a rule, after the majority, right to sue belongs to the major child. On the other hand, in accordance with the principle of best interest of the child, the contribution may also be ruled, even before the majority of the child, through an independent action on the basis of article 329 of Civil Code or as a part of an action regarding to the marital law under the name of spouses duty of contribution. i

In this study, which deals with the life of the composer and performer Neyzen Ali Dogan Ergin, who is one of the important representatives of Turkish maqam music, his direction of composition and Ferahnak Asiran Mevlevi ritual, first of all, the life of the composer, his works, his performance of ney and his abandonment, 'Ferahnak Asiran' Mevlevi ritual, maqam, rhythm and melodic aspects. In this ritual, which was examined, how Ali Dogan Ergin performed the maqam Ferahnak Asiran, the modal transitions he used in the work and the relationship of these transitions with the maqam, the methods used in his act and the relationship of these procedures with the arûz meter. Some of the aims of this study are to reveal the way in which the maqam Ferahnak Asiran, which can be considered new in terms of abandonment in Turkish maqam music, is used in a large and important form such as Mevlevi ritual, to reveal the melodical course characteristics of the maqam to a great extent, and to provide a source for future researches on the subject. The scanning model was used in the study, and both the life and works of the composer and the sources related to the Turkish maqam music theory were examined by scanning model. The notes of the work, which is the first and only Mevlevi ritual in the maqam Ferahnak Asiran, were analyzed and analyzed in terms of maqam-rhythm-aruz meter. As a result of the research, following the Ferahnak Asiran course in Ferahnak Asiran Mevlevi ritual, composed by Neyzen Ali Doğan Ergin, after a hanging decision made on the curtain of Dugah after the season of Segah in Evc, Rast Maye in Hüseyni, Rast in Neva and Rast in Dügah In the methods used as Asiran (from Uşşak) on Hüseyni Asiran curtain, the flavors in Evc, Neva and Huseyni curtains are not repeated in Irak, Huseyni Asiran and Yegah curtains, they do not darken on the Irak curtain (hang), they are passed to sixteen maqams in ritual. It was concluded that a line reflecting the tradition was followed

Features of the embodiment of the author’s position in the essay by I. A. Goncharov “Pepiniere” are considered. The relevance of the study is due to the poorly studied poetics of this work. A review of the scientific literature on relevant topics is performed. Methodological and theoretical definitions are given. The scientific novelty of the article is in the fact that for the first time attention is paid to artistic techniques that allow to identify the author's position in the specified literary text. The author of the article grounds her opinion from the fact that, despite the dominance of the subjective point of view, other characters’ views stand out in the work. It is concluded in the study that the text of the work represents a biographical author and author-creator. It was established that the position of the author-creator is expressed through the title, epigraphs, which are quotes, as well as through different points of view, including the author-character, the author-narrator, the characters of the work. The author of the article dwells in detail on different ways of expressing the points of view of the author-character and the author-narrator. It is proved that the point of view of the author-character and the author-narrator can intersect, they are interchanged. The author's development of the term comic “point of view” is presented in the article
