This study is experiment research with control group pretest-posttest design and aimed to examine the influence of PQ4R strategy and Refutation Text, school level, and student’s mathematical early knowledge toward achievement and enhancement of student’s mathematical communication ability and Self Regulated Learning. Subject of study as much as 241 students of class X from three Public Senior High School from high, medium, and low school level. Research instrument consist of one set of student’s mathematical communication, and one set of student’s Self Regulated Learning scale. Data analysis use Kosmogorov-Smirnov Test (Test-Z), Level Test, Test-t, one-way and two-way ANOVA, Post Hoc Test (Scheffe) and also Chi-Square Test. Study found that learning with PR4R strategy accompanied by Refutation Text Reading give consistent influence compared with conventional learning as viewed as a whole, based on school level and also mathematical early knowledge. In addition, study also found: (1) there is no interaction between learning (PQ4R) accompanied by Refutation Text reading and conventional and school level toward (a) student’s mathematical communication and (b) student’s Self Regulated Learning; (2) there is no significant interaction between learning and student’s mathematical early knowledge toward (a) student’s mathematical communication ability and (b) student’s Self Regulated Learning; and (3) there is association between student’s mathematical communication ability and student’s Self Regulated Learning. Keywords: PQ4R, Refutation Text, Mathematical Communication, and Self Regulated Learning

EFFECTIVITY OF PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL) IN IMPROVING STUDENTS' MATHEMATICAL REPRESENTATION

Mathematical representation skill is one of the goals in mathematical instruction especially in high school as well as college. Multiple representation skill is the ability to present a mathematical object (problem, statement, solution, model, etc) into a variety of notation that include (1) symbolic (algebraic form and formula); it is used in manipulating, interpreting, and operating with symbols, (2) visual: to interpret , to create, and to operate mathematical object in graph or images, (3) numerical: this is used to apply the procedure, to understand and implement the process, and to interpret the table. This study examined the effect of problem based learning in representation skills of high school students. Experimental design with pretest-posttest was applied to obtain the effect with involving 42 high school students who were studying at the third grade. Multiple representations of mathematical tests were designed to get the data. Quantitative and qualitative methods were applied to analyze the data. The result shows that problem based learning is effective to enhance representation skill of students. Key Words: Problem Based Learning (PBL), Multiple Representations, and Effectivit

The main purpose of research is whether the representation of mathematical ability of students increased after learning gained through the program Mathematical Maple combined with cooperative learning Think Pair Share on lectures of Mathematical Physics. Subjects were students of third semester of physical education courses with the number of 35 students. The method used is a Class Action Research conducted through three cycles or actions which each cycle. The research instrument consists of: test, questionnaire, and observation guidelines. Based on data analysis concluded: (1) the ability of the representation of the students in understanding the meaning of the physical, the ability of representation of students to represent the mathematical equation in the form of graphs, the ability of the representation of the students in giving meaning physical on the results of visualization, and the ability of the representation of the students in understanding the course materials Mathematical Physics increase in each cycle or action; (2) the implementation process using computer-aided applications maple in the first cycle having problems because the students have never known the computer-assisted program maple, but in the next cycle students were able to adjust the maple program that is being used; and (3) the response of students to the course of action given the overall increase in each cycle. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
