Circulation Gatekeepers: Unbundling the Platform Politics of YouTube's Content ID
This article explores how circulation flows are shaped by the politics of digital platforms. The author introduces the concept circulation gatekeepers to consider the infrastructures (people, institutions, technologies, discourses, etc.) that control and direct the flow of how, or if, matter moves in particular rhetorical ecologies. Focusing on YouTube\u27s Content ID as a case in point, the article explores how YouTube exercises circulation gatekeeping power by blocking some circulation flows and boosting others. It traces how Content ID aligns itself—materially through its computational procedures, economically through its monetization practices, and rhetorically through its published legal positions and community guidelines—with a view of copyright that privileges the interests of corporate rightsholders and neglects those of everyday users. The author shows how these interests are embedded in copyright discourses and regimes of property control, suggesting systems such as Content ID have broader implications for digital writing in an age where platform infrastructures determine authorship and ownership status. In addition to discussing why rhetoric and writing scholars should care about circulation practices on YouTube (and other corporate platforms), the article closes by calling for more work that considers the role other circulation gatekeepers play in networked economies
Framing ethanol : a content analysis comparing national and regional media coverage of ethanol
The main purpose of this research study was to compare national and regional newspaper coverage of the issue of ethanol. The methodology used in this study was content analysis. Newspaper articles were the units of analysis. Newspaper articles printed in four national newspapers and four regional newspapers located in the top ethanol producing states in the United States were collected from a LexisNexis Academic database and analyzed. Newspaper articles were analyzed in terms of article source, size, placement in terms of section and page number, headline and author attributes, the number and types of sources included in each story, overall article tone and themes. Results from the content analysis found no significant correlations between national and regional newspapers and the tone, source types and themes of ethanol articles. Data did show differences in other affective attributes attached to the issue of ethanol.Thesis (M.A.)Department of Journalis
Morphology of mitochondria and cell respiration,pt.1.
To reveal the mechanism of liver damage by taking CCl4 the author observed the liver tissues from rats at 1.5, 5, 6, 10, 17, 20, and 22 hours after the CCl4 administration, both by light microscope and electron-microscope. 1. Light microscope observation revealed the swelling of liver cells in the carly stage, the appearance of centrolobular fatty degeneration, focal degeneration area and the appearance of balloon cells, with the circulatory disturbances in accompanying stages and hemorrhage in the later stage. 2. Electron-microscope observation revealed the swelling of mitochondria, appearance of the files of thin ER's in the early stage and the regeneration and degeneration of mitochondria with an increase of microbodies in number. Fat droplets are developed from small ones probably from some microbodies without correlation with mitochondria. 3. From these observations the author is of the opinion that CCl4 arrests the cells at first inducing the swelling of cells and their mitochondria, but later the degenerative changes will become severe being complicated by the anoxia which is induced by the circulatory disturbances caused by the compression of vessels with the swollen cells.</p

W. R. Myers High School 2007
The annual publication of the students of W. R. Myers High School Taber, Alberta. (Volume 2006-2007)pdfr»~ g »:
"7;^mw - ^Ji^r<: •;^:.^»»*^/y7i^L^i^2^17LlALi^^On behalf of the yearbook class J would like to thank Mr, Dejong for allowing us time in school hours to complete the yearbook,
and all his dedication and hard work outside of class. J would like to thank the wonderful office staff for their countless hours of
proofing student names and filling us in on activities. Thank you to all staff for putting up with our "sneaky" candid picture snapping
throughout the school year and last but not least Lisa Mstalos for her moments of getting every one back in the game in her "own"
crazy way.
The year started out with a yearbook Conference in
Lethbridge. Ct was a long two days, which set the basis for
the next nine months. Only a few of us could attend but by the
end of the year you couldn't tell because everyone had mastered
the yeartech On-line Program!
Our theme this year was music and songs. Our very diverse
class presented us with a very diverse mix of music throughout
the book, mainly using the titles rather than the entire song.
.As Editor of the 2007 yearbook <7 was quite pleased to find a wonderful array of staff
and talent. For the first semester we had a rather large class but we made it work and
everyone's hard work payed off. Flundreds of hours later we are showcasing an amazing
book/ filled with memories talents and dreams of students come and gone.

Boys with conduct problems and callous-unemotional traits: Neural response to reward and punishment and associations with treatment response
abstract: Abnormalities in reward and punishment processing are implicated in the development of conduct problems (CP), particularly among youth with callous-unemotional (CU) traits. However, no studies have examined whether CP children with high versus low CU traits exhibit differences in the neural response to reward and punishment. A clinic-referred sample of CP boys with high versus low CU traits (ages 8–11; n = 37) and healthy controls (HC; n = 27) completed a fMRI task assessing reward and punishment processing. CP boys also completed a randomized control trial examining the effectiveness of an empirically-supported intervention (i.e., Stop-Now-And-Plan; SNAP). Primary analyses examined pre-treatment differences in neural activation to reward and punishment, and exploratory analyses assessed whether these differences predicted treatment outcome. Results demonstrated associations between CP and reduced amygdala activation to punishment independent of age, race, IQ and co-occurring ADHD and internalizing symptoms. CU traits were not associated with reward or punishment processing after accounting for covariates and no differences were found between CP boys with high versus low CU traits. While boys assigned to SNAP showed a greater reduction in CP, differences in neural activation were not associated with treatment response. Findings suggest that reduced sensitivity to punishment is associated with early-onset CP in boys regardless of the level of CU traits
Granice satyry
The monograph explores the assumption that the satiric mode, so deeply ingrained in the works of many distinguished writers, is more than a mere response to reality. It has the power to create and extend the boundaries of literature. The book offers a theoretical enquiry into the multiple aspects of satire and its elusive generic class. Yet if satire is to be used effectively and increase our understanding of the refined highbrow literature, it requires a precise definition and adequate analytical tools. This task appears even more urgent since in Polish literary discourse the terms ‘satire’ and ‘satirist’ have gained a narrow value-oriented meaning, and tend to denote a literary practice which is highly specialized but, at the same time, artistically ‘inferior’. Its secondary status results from a narrow perspective on satire and the neglect of its historical transformations. It further seems to run counter to widely accepted literary facts: such prominent writers as Witold Gombrowicz, Sławomir Mrożek and Tadeusz Różewicz made satire central to various aspects of their writings. Some of their works have been selected for analytical and interpretative reading in this book. The author attributes this relative neglect of satire to its remarkable formal diversity as well as to the strong presence of grotesque in the Polish literature of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. By exploring the complex connections between satire, irony, parody, grotesque and autothematism, and using interpretative analysis, the author demonstrates the challenges involved in its description. Furthermore, as contemporary satirical texts differ considerably from classic satire both aesthetically and in the context of ideological pronouncements, satire retains its functionality. It affords opportunity for situating unconventional satirical texts in the literary tradition and, at the same time, permits its historical transformations. Additionally, the author disputes the conventional ‘moral’ perspective of satirical writing. This traditional pattern assumes that the satirist writes his critique according to some evident or clear-cut standards or boundaries. Meanwhile, a satirical text engages and challenges the reader; it calls for the kind of openness which allows identification with the satirical object and readiness to modify viewpoints. Finally, the author underscores the commonly ignored complexity of the satirist’s attitude. Its constitutive critical viewpoint does not exclude self-irony. Self-criticism may in fact result from a satirical attitude and it may initiate distance. And it is in this friction between identification and opposition towards the satirical object that the satirist’s ambivalence emerges. The broad satirical model advanced in this book aims to increase appreciation of this hitherto neglected category in Polish literary criticism. By accentuating the elusive character of satire, the underlying principle of hybridity and its intricate interconnections with other literary strategies, such as irony, humour and grotesque, we can acknowledge the ironic intention in the works of the most distinguished authors. The interpretations offered by the author may serve as a reference point for the reading of individual writers as well as for a more extensive study of satire.Wydanie publikacji sfinansowano ze środków Wydziału Filologicznego Uniwersytetu w Biał[email protected]ł Filologiczny Uniwersytet w BiałymstokuAleksandrowicz Alina, Twórczość satyryczna Adama Naruszewicza, Wrocław 1964.Alichnowicz Karol, „Miejsce dla kpiarza”. The maintenance of sperm variability: context-dependent selection on sperm morphology in a broadcast spawning invertebrate
Why are sperm so variable despite having a singular, critical function and an intimate relationship with fitness? A key to understanding the evolution of sperm morphology is identifying which traits enable sperm to be successful fertilizers. Several sperm traits (e.g., tail length, overall size) are implicated in sperm performance, but the benefits of these traits are likely to be highly context dependent. Here, we examined phenotypic selection on sperm morphology of a broadcast spawning tube worm (Galeolaria gemineoa). We conducted laboratory experiments to measure the relationship between average sperm morphology and relative fertilization success across a range of sperm environments that were designed to approximate the range of sperm concentrations and ages encountered by eggs in nature. We found that the strength and form of multivariate selection varied substantially across our environmental gradients. Sperm with long tails and small heads were favored in high-concentration environments, whereas sperm with long heads were favored at low concentrations and old ages. We suggest variation in the local fertilization environment and resulting differences in selection can preserve variability in sperm morphology both within and among males. © 2012 The Author(s). IJES Self-Study on Participants’ Sex in Exercise Science: Sex-Data Gap and Corresponding Author Survey
International Journal of Exercise Science 16(6): 364-376, 2023. A sex-data gap exists between females and males within the sport and exercise science literature, and implications are far-reaching. The purpose of this work was to (a) heed recent calls and scrutinize data from within IJES to address the gap and (b) gain insight on self-identified sex of IJES corresponding authors. The present self-study included all published manuscripts from 2008 through 2021. A total of 851 publications were included, and 806 (94.7%) reported data on participant sex. There was a difference between publications that included only females (n = 132) versus only males (n = 215), and three publications reported data on sex according to non-binary identifications (0.4%). There was an overall difference between the number of female (n = 54,153; 35.9%) and male (n = 96,890; 64.1%) participants. To gain insight on self-identified sex of corresponding authors, we performed an IRB-approved research study.
