Nursing care of persons having dementia diseases affecting the frontal lobes, sets special demands on the staff, but the knowledge about how to best tailor nursing care is sparse. The aim of the study was to illuminate possibilities and difficulties in nursing care of persons having dementia diseases with frontal lobe dysfunction and was carried out as a descriptive, qualitative study, based on a review of medical records and interviews with nursing staff (n=10) that was analysed with qualitative content analysis. The difficulties were related to the patients lack of inhibition and judgement, anxiety, agitation, reduced ability to care for physical needs, egocentrism, imbalance between rest and activity, and depressed mood. The possibilities were seen in relation to the nursing staffs professional encounter, characterised by being distinct and consequent, being a step ahead, being flexible and catch the moment, being calm and create a positive atmosphere, being close and trusting and being and doing together. To receive continuous feedback and support was a prerequisite for the staffs’ engagement. The result showed that the nurse patient encounter is of importance to gain a high quality nursing care where each patient, despite illness, is seen as a unique and valuable person

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Nursing students gain tools for knowledge utilisation through a work and research integrated learning assignment – a qualitative study

Background: By integrating education, research and collaboration with society, in a learning assignment, the level of nursing students learning can be enhanced. Aim: The purpose of this study was to explore nursing students’ experiences of participating in a work and research integrated learning assignment during their clinical practice courses. Methods: At the end of their nursing training, in their sixth semester, five nursing students were recruited to the study and interviewed after which the texts of interviews were analysed using content analysis. The participants had been involved in two studies, one during their second semester, where the risk of falling was assessed, and one during their sixth semester where the risk for under nutrition was assessed. Results: The students experienced that the two assignments enhanced their learning in how to work as a foreman/supervisor, how to inform and engage in dialogue, about using risk assessment, and further, gave them the opportunity to meet the people behind the diagnosis. Through assignments they could also identify the need for knowledge within the study focus, for instance, the risks for falling or the risk of undernourishment. Further, they described how they tried to live up to the ethical standards and that they had learned about using a scientific approach in their work. Conclusion: It is possible to integrate Research, Education and Collaboration in a learning assignment during Nursing education (RECN-assignment) by allowing nursing students to participate in an actual research project during their work integrated learning courses. Such an approach enhances nursing students learning about research and the area being studied in the actual research project

Metod: Semistrukturerade intervjuer, med tolv äldre personer, utifrån instrumentet ”Seniors in the community: Risk evaluation for eating and nutrition, version II” (SCREEN II). The aim of the study was to capture the older persons' experiences in relation to foodand meals in ordinary housing. Method:Semi-structured interviews, with twelve older persons, on the basis of the instrument "Seniors in the community: Risk Evaluation for Eating and Nutrition, Version II" (SCREEN II). The interviews were analyzed with manifest and latent content analysis. Results:Respondents described how past life largely influenced their current experiences and views on food and meals. Increased reliance and need for support arose frequently in connection with a major change in the life situation. The results showed that the SCREEN II is useful for measuring the risk of malnutrition under Swedish conditions. Conclusions: Older people's knowledge about good and nutritious food as well as individual needs for self-determination and feeling involved should be considered in planning and development efforts related to food and meals in ordinary housing. SCREEN II can be considered as an appropriate instrument to use in the context of preventive home visits, in order to identify risk factors that can cause malnutrition. Further research in larger samples is needed

    No full text

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
