Physical Literacy : en försäkring med nytta och nöje som alla har råd med

    No full text

Primary students’ experiences of formative feedback in mathematics

    No full text
Feedback does not always engage students. To better understand why this happens, the present study analysed Grade 2 (7- to 8-year-old) students’ experiences of formative feedback in mathematics to identify aspects with potential importance for student engagement. The researcher processed the students’ experiences with the help of stimulated recall and semi-structured interviews. Most of the students appreciated feedback that focused on the process, instead of simply offering solution methods. However, due to a conflict between teachers and students regarding the social and socio-mathematical norms, some of the students did not understand the purpose while others wanted the teacher to state the solution method. This shows that it is important not only which norms are established, but also that this is done at an early stage. Thus, both teachers and students need to understand and accept the norms, and potentially establish new norms, if the current ones are counterproductive

The bad apples' influence on the organizational members : a qualitative case study exploring individuals’ experiences

    No full text
The purpose of this paper is to explore individuals’ experiences of unethical leadership by examining it from an employee perspective. The concept of ethical leadership, organizational ethical culture, and unethical behavior guide this study together with the components of vicarious learning, and role ethically. The research question is based on three main areas, unethical leadership, unethical behavior, and ethical culture, and it follows: What are employees’experiences of unethical leadership and what does those experiences reveal about the leaders’behaviors and the organizational ethical culture? The method was through a qualitative questionnaire conducted online and through a multiple case study six informants’ experiences were explored. The findings show that all the informants perceived their leaders as not being ethical and fair, being bad roles models, and not being an example of good ethical behavior. Conclusions are that the influence of unethical leadership creates negative experiences in the informants and those experiences were presented in a range of different emotions and behaviors

Anomie and collaboration in intelligence and operational police and border guard work in the Baltic Sea area : In-group mentality and construction of the other

    No full text
The risks and insecurities emphasised in contemporary societies have given rise to diverse forms of policing, such as transnational, intelligence- and operative-based police collaborations. The purpose of this ethnographic study is to analyse the collaborative work among intelligence and operative personnel from different border authorities in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. The focus of this study is how the collaboration activities created an in-group mentality among the participating officers which was contrasted with another category, that of the “norm-dissolving Russian”. This category included concepts such as being a spy, a criminal and a potential military threat, and became a sort of "Other" that reinforced their own in-group bonds. Intelligence and operative personnel present in the analysed collaborative sequences create their professional identities by contrasting themselves with these categories. They build up a kind of group feeling and present a particular moral order that is created and re-created during their collaborative work. The norm-stable and the threatening norm-dissolving moralities are created within the interaction – especially when meeting work groups that differ from their own normative code. Morality is thus created and re-created in the encounter with people that are associated with being the “enemy”, present in the situation both in physical and invisible form.Definitions of successful intelligence and operational police work Successful collaboratio

It’s just a meme bro! : How memes in marketing communication affects brand personality

    No full text
Internet memes have in recent years become a prevalent phenomenon which brands have now started to use in their marketing communication efforts. Previous brand personality research suggested that communication style can change a brand’s perceived personality from a consumer’s perspective. The purpose of the thesis was to investigate if there is a difference in how brands are perceived depending on whether memes or more traditional images are used in marketing communication. The theoretical framework for this thesis was Geuens et al. (2009) A New Measure of Brand Personality. An experimental design was applied by having a total of 98 respondents answer one of two surveys. The respondents were exposed to a meme or a more traditional advert from the dating app, Tinder, and then asked to answerer questions regarding the brand’s personality. Hypothesis testing was conducted to see if any significant differences between the groups could be found. Results showed that respondent did perceive the brand differently on two dimensions of brand personality depending on what image they saw. However, lack of internal reliability in multiple dimensions in A New Measure of Brand Personality, questioned the scales applicability. The thesis contributes to a better understanding of how memes can be used in marketing communication

USA´s reaction towards harmonization with IFRS : A historical perspective

    No full text
Despite the benefits of reduced information asymmetry and increased market efficiency, not all countries have adopted the global accounting standard IFRS. The purpose of this study was to investigate how US from a historical perspective reacted towards the harmonization with the global accounting standard IFRS. The theoretical framework is derived from the institutional theory with an emphasis on the behavior of actors. Furthermore, the different strategic responses that organizations enact as a result of institutional pressures toward conformity. This study is based on archival research through a qualitative content analysis. Findings shows that US is prone to change responses several times from the year 1970. In addition, US is gradually increasing how active its response to harmonization with IFRS is. Lastly, the most recent response US shows are manipulate.

Digital tools in the audit process : a qualitative comparison of large and small audit firms

    No full text
Digitalization affects society in an extensive manner and the audit profession is no exception. Auditing is changing as a result of digitalization. The digitalization in audit expresses itself through different digital tools that can be used in the audit process. Digital tools aim to simplify and make the audit process more efficient. The purpose of the study was to compare how large and small audit firms use digital tools in the audit process. A qualitative method was chosen in order to research the area. The empirical findings of the study was developed by interviewing auditors from large and small audit firms. Previous literature along with definitions of key concepts and theories such as institutional theory, TOE framework and diffusion of innovation were described in conjunction with the study in order to create a theoretical framework. The theoretical framework was used to analyze the empirical findings of the study. The digital tools are being used in a similar way and often in the same parts of the audit process. According to the study, digital tools are most useful in the reviewing phase of the audit process. Digital tools increase the efficiency of the audit and it allows the auditor to complex parts of the audit. The difference is in which digital tools are being used where small firms tend to buy external digital tools while large firms develop their own digital tools. It is also clear that digital tools are an important part of the auditor’s daily work.

Integrating children's fiction and storyline in the second language classroom

    No full text
This article reports on a study in which, for five weeks, the English lessons of two classes of 11–12 year olds in Sweden were based on Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox. To promote the learners’ engagement with the text, support understanding, and facilitate incidental vocabulary acquisition, a range of language-focused tasks were designed within the framework of the Storyline approach. In Storyline, a fictive world is created in the classroom. The story develops when learners, working in the same small groups, collaborate on open so-called key questions, which structure the Storyline, introduce happenings and problems, and link with the syllabus. Another characteristic is the integration of practical and theoretical subject content. Learners’ art work and texts are displayed on a frieze, or walls of the classroom, creating a visual record of the developing story. The study also investigated the influence on learning of the book’s illustrations, and the learners’ own drawings. The majority of the learners made gains in vocabulary, as evidenced in pre- and post-tests, writing and speaking tasks. While some learners had never thought about illustrations and drawings as a support, for many, both of these were found to be helpful

Involvement of professionals in research: knowledge integration, development of practice, and challenges : a group concept mapping study

    No full text
BACKGROUND: Research and practice are often considered as two different worlds with different values, which causes a gap between them. Involving professionals such as practitioners, managers, decision-makers, and policy-makers in research on ageing and health might address the gap between research and practice, strengthen the healthcare system, and increase older people's possibilities for healthy ageing. The aim of this study was to conceptualize professionals' involvement in research on ageing and health from the perspective of the professionals themselves. METHODS: A mixed method called group concept mapping was used. Professionals with experience being involved in research on ageing and health participated in qualitative data collection through brainstorming sessions (n = 29) and by sorting statements (n = 29). Afterwards, they participated in a quantitative data collection by rating statements according to how much each statement strengthened practice (n = 30) and strengthened research (n = 28). Multidimensional scaling analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis were used to conduct quantitative analysis. Latent qualitative analysis was also conducted. RESULTS: Analysis resulted in eight clusters which illustrated conceptual areas of professionals' involvement in research projects. The qualitative latent construct of the cluster map resulted in the themes: challenges for professionals; prerequisites and professionals' learning can contribute to development of practice; and integrated knowledge benefits older people. There was a strong correlation between what strengthens practice and research (r = 0.92). CONCLUSIONS: This study illustrates conceptual areas of professionals' own perspectives on what their involvement in research can lead to. Their involvement may lead to knowledge being integrated, and the professionals may learn through their involvement, which can contribute to the development of practice. However, there can also be challenges that need to be handled when professionals are involved in research. The study can be useful for improving the understanding of and actual involvement of professionals in research, and for optimizing the involvement of professionals.Open Access funding was provided by Kristianstad University.
