Enabling social participation for older people : The content of reablement by age, gender, and level of functioning in occupational therapists' interventions
BACKGROUND: Social participation and the ability to build and maintain social relationships is emphasized as important for older people's health and well-being. AIM: To explore if social participation is addressed and whether age, gender and level of functioning are associated with the composition of occupational therapy interventions within the context of reablement. METHOD: In this cross-sectional study, invitations to participate were sent to 60 municipalities in Sweden. 318 occupational therapists participated and described the character of initiated interventions made during 3 weeks through web-based surveys. RESULT: 1392 cases were reported in the age span of 19-103 years, 61.7% were women. A higher proportion of persons having no home care and minor functional dependency got interventions with a focus on social participation to a higher extent than persons with major functional dependency. Occupational therapists' interventions vary as related to functional limitation, age, and gender. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that the severity of functional limitation impacts the focus of the intervention whereas age and gender do not. There is a need for social participation to be more clearly addressed within the context of reablement. SIGNIFICANCE: To develop a person-centred intervention, one needs to consider aspects of age, gender, and functions
Information-seeking behaviours of teacher students : A systematic review of quantitative methods literature
Teachers are the key to an inclusive and quality education for all. Therefore, training teachers and teacher students and understanding how they learn, including information-seeking behaviours, is crucial. This systematic literature review explores the observed research gap regarding teacher students’ information-seeking behaviours. Of specific interest is information-seeking affective behaviours and the research practice context. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guided the review process. Searches were conducted in three key research databases and resulted in 1006 references. Abstracts and titles were screened and assessed using Rayyan. After screening, 56 publications were chosen for the qualitative synthesis, of which 39 used only or partly quantitative methods and thereby of interest for the review. The high number of studies resulted in a need to divide the review into two studies. The second part will focus on qualitative methods studies. The results were then analysed through thematic analysis. The results revealed a research gap regarding quantitative and mixed methods studies of non-normative and qualitative features of teacher students’ information-seeking behaviours, especially affective behaviours and in research practices. This is the first systematic review of teacher students’ information-seeking behaviours. Thus, a valuable contribution to information-seeking behaviour and information literacy research has been provided

Fall-Related activity avoidance among persons with late effects of polio and its influence on daily life : A mixed-methods study
Falls are common among persons with late effects of polio (LEoP), which may lead to fear of falling and activity avoidance in everyday life. Here, we assessed the occurrence of fall-related activity avoidance among persons with LEoP and explored how these experiences influenced daily life. Fourteen ambulatory persons (seven women; mean age 70 years) with LEoP participated. They responded to the modified Survey of Activities and Fear of Falling in the Elderly (mSAFFE) and participated in individual interviews, which were analysed by systematic text condensation. Each quotation was deductively analysed from its representation with regard to mSAFFE. We found that many persons often avoided activities related to standing and walking, for example, taking a bath, performing household chores, walking outdoors, attending social events if there were stairs in the building and travelling by public transport, due to fear of falling, increased pain and fatigability. To facilitate the performance of daily activities participants expressed that strategic thinking and aids were important to use. In conclusion, fall-related activity avoidance is common in persons with LEoP, which negatively influence daily life and social participation. To increase daily functioning in this population, fall-related activity avoidance should be included in a multifaceted fall management program.Funding: The study was supported by grants from the Stiftelsen för bistånd åt rörelsehindrade i Skåne, Sweden, Gyllenstiernska Krapperupsstiftelsen (The Gyllenstierna Krapperup Foundation), Sweden and the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University, Lund, Sweden. The funding agencies were not involved in any aspects of the study design, data collection, data interpretation or manuscript preparation. </p
Development of Fingerfood recipes for meals for home usage among older people with eating disabilities
Background: In the context of demographic changes and age-related diseases, there is a need to focus on the health of older people. Eating disabilities, such as difficulties to use cutlery, caused by various diseases (Parkinson's disease, consequences of a stroke) are becoming more frequent and solutions must be put in place. Objective: The purpose of this study is to create recipes of Fingerfoods for older adults over 65 years old with eating disabilities. These recipes should be prepared at home and rich in protein and energy. Design: A creative design was used to create products, and several variations were created from a basic recipe. The differences between the variations of a recipe are the ingredients that can be substituted or changed in quantity. Materials and Methods: Concerning the physical analysis, texture measurements, viscosity, and colorimetry were performed. The sensory evaluation was a hedonic test to measure the appreciation of the panel according to several criteria: appearance, smell, taste, texture, and overall appreciation. Results: The samples, according to the type of product, were measured for their hardness, their adhesiveness, their viscosity, and their colour. Results also show the appreciation of each sample, the comparisons of the appreciations, the ideas for improvement of the participants, and correlations between different data sets. Discussion: Results have been analysed and used to select the suitable recipes at each phase of the study. The milkshake was preferred when vanilla whey protein was added. The cheese balls were preferred with more chicken and less cheese. Soy flour was appreciated equally or more than wheat flour in the fish cakes and the salty muffins while chickpea flour was the least liked. In the set of recipes proposed for sensory evaluation, the most protein-rich ones were the most appreciated. Conclusion: In the end, four recipes have been selected based on the physical analysis, the sensory evaluation, and the nutritional content. The expected amount of protein was achieved for all productsISBN: 978-91-87973-61-1</p
Has CSR started to sell? Based on the Covid-19 pandemic : An insight from consumers’ perspective
The purpose of this thesis is to explore if consumers evaluate CSR more into their purchase criterion compared to before the Covid-19 pandemic. CSR activities, consumer buying behavior, and CSR as a purchase criterion were combined in a conceptual framework. The consumer decision-making model was used as a framework in consumer buying behavior. In CSR as a purchase criterion, three factors were used to conclude if consumers started to evaluate CSR more as a purchase criterion. The empirical data was collected through two semi-structured focus groups. Group A was ensembled through a convenience sampling method but evolved to a snowball effect. Group B was ensembled through a purposive sampling method. The findings indicated that consumers did not start to evaluate CSR more as a purchase criterion. The main reason was the financial situation. However, consumers have started to buy more sustainable food, especially locally produced during the pandemic which indicated an increased awareness towards CSR as a purchase criterion. The findings also showed that the Covid-19 pandemic influenced consumers' awareness of CSR but the implemented safety precautions in grocery stores had a limited effect on consumers. The research field of consumer buying behavior in the context of CSR can be complemented with the findings in this study. This study contributed to a deeper understanding of consumer buying behavior and if they value CSR in their purchases during the Covid-19 pandemic
Age-related decline in senses and cognition : A Review
Background: Age-related decline in the senses is well-known, with a decline in the sensitivity of all senses having been observed. Decline in the senses can be connected to different neurological disorders and cognitive function and may even be a possible predictor of death. Aim: The aim of this narrative review was to find and explore recent literature on the covariation between age-related decline in the different senses and co-existing effects on cognitive ability and quality of life. Results and Discussion: Six themes could be identified, these were: “Decline due to normal ageing?”, “Technical aids and solutions”, “Wellbeing”, “Memory training”, “Verbal exercises” and “Sensory training”. Large differences between the different senses were obtained. However, the senses showed similar patterns in the different themes. Conclusion: It could be concluded that there are many similarities concerning the connections between the decline in individual senses and cognition and memory. Measurements of wellbeing and quality of life are common in the evaluation of the senses, and all types of decline have an impact on activities in daily life.
Preschool teachers' constructions of scientific basis and proven experience
The Purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge about which understandings of scientific basis and proven experience are constructed in communication between preschool teachers. The study is guided by two questions: What language categories are constructed in preschool teachers' communications about the scientific basis? and What language categories are constructed in preschool teachers' communication about proven experience?. The study has a qualitative methodological approach, with a theoretical starting point in contextual social constructionism. The study data is collected through two focus groups with ten active preschool teachers in the preschool. The data are analyzed to the concepts of performativity and fabrications. The performativity is related to the assignment in the curriculum for preschool (Lpfö 18) states that "teaching with content and working methods must be based on scientific grounds and proven experience". The study highlights fabrications that mean that preschool teachers present or justify their teaching in a better way than what corresponds to reality. The results of the study show three conclusions: ambiguity, ambiguity in responsibility and lack of common understanding of the concepts of scientific basis and proven experience. The concepts have not previously been discussed by the preschool teachers in the study, which means that their own interpretations and explanations of the concepts are pronounced. Preschool teachers lack a clearer definition of scientific basis and proven experience, which is in line with what previours research sheds light on
Outdoor life in spatial planning : compilation of access to nature for outdoor life in Skåne's municipalities
Negotiation or transformation? : the conditions of co-assessment for developing professional assessors inmathematics
