Roza Irrigation District
Presented at the 2002 USCID/EWRI conference, Energy, climate, environment and water - issues and opportunities for irrigation and drainage on July 9-12 in San Luis Obispo, California. The Roza Irrigation District (Roza), in the Yakima Valley of Washington State, received only 37 percent of its water right entitlement in the 1994 and 2001 irrigation seasons due to its junior water status in the basin. A reduction in water allocation of this magnitude places a great deal of stress on farmers and their crops, and hinders the District's ability to deliver water. Faced with having to operate with less than 50 percent (600 cfs) of design flow, Roza has become one of the most progressive irrigation districts in the Pacific Northwest with respect to water conservation by applying new and innovative technology. Since 1991, Roza has developed numerous partnerships to help fund and apply resourceful technology to water conservation measures. Initially, Armtec and UMA introduced the automated single-leaf over shot gate, which was applied to numerous main canal checks to provide constant level control for pipeline turnouts and pumping plants. One of Roza's most successful partnerships has been with the United States Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau) Water Conservation Field Services Program in Yakima, and Aqua Systems 2000 Inc. (AS2I) from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The partnership began in 1997 when an existing flashboard check structure was replaced with an automated Langemann gate. The success of this project, cost shared with the Bureau, prompted Roza to discontinue building new multi-bay single-leaf over shot structures and building or retrofitting eight structures with a single Langemann gate, the largest being 24-feet wide. The partnership with the Bureau and AS2I expanded to include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) on two existing main canal checks and a re-regulation reservoir. These innovative projects include flow control using undershot gates, spill flow monitoring using ultrasonic level technology, downstream canal level control using a variable speed pump and modulating valve, and remote communications via spread spectrum radio, dedicated phone line, and cellular digital modem technology. The SCADA system was recently expanded with the incorporation of an Acoustic Doppler Flow Meter (ADFM) downstream of the diversion point. In addition, Roza also partnered with MagnaDrive, Inc. (MagnaDrive) and AS2I to demonstrate variable speed pump control on an existing pumping plant. MagnaDrive supplied a magnetic coupler rather than a variable frequency drive (VFD), and AS2I provided the controls design and software to the flow control project. The success of these projects has enabled Roza to reduce low-end operational flows from 600 cfs to 280 cfs in water short years and still provide reliable service to its water users

Gledališki eksperiment na Slovenskem (1966–1986) in njegovi odmevi v mladinski dramatiki – Andrej Rozman Roza
In Slovenian (youth) literature, three authors who have worked in the field of drama and/or theatre stand out – namely, Svetlana Makarovič, academically trained actress (Sapramiška), Milan Jesih (Four Plays for Children, adaptations of Andersen’s fairy tales The Emperor’s New Clothes and The Ugly Duckling) and Andrej Rozman Roza. The paper will focus on the latter, who was strongly influenced by the theatre experiment in Slovenia, especially during the formative period of his studies of the Slovenian language (1974–1978). Andrej Rozman Roza (1956) started performing and/or publishing plays in the period 1981– 1990 (Inspector Schwake, 1986; collection of texts Ana Monró Theatre, 1991, etc.). He is known in literary history as a youth poet and is included in Slovenian language curricula (1998, 2011, 2018). However, the definition of a systemic author is more appropriate for him (I. Even Zohar, M. Dović) since of the six functions in the literary system (author, institution, market, repertoire, book, reader) he holds at least three roles (author, “institution”, book [living book], etc.). This paper focuses on adaptations of classics of Slovenian (Cankar, Levstik, Linhart, Prešeren, etc.) or world literature that – regardless of literary genre or type – have become crossover literature in the process of literary reception, especially in picture-book editions (e.g., A Midsummer Night’s Dream which has the international fairy tale type number ATU 899A [Pyramus and Thisbe]). According to B. Kümmerling-Meibauer’s definition of crossover classics or authorship, Rozman is a crossover author. In addition, according to L. Hutcheon’s theory, adaptations are an important part of Rozman’s work and contribute to the updating of classics and modern classics. The paper presents the collection Brvi čez morje (The Footbridge Across the Sea), which contains thirteen plays, three of which are folktale texts – Janko and Metka (Hansel and Gretel) [ATU 327], Obuti maček (Puss in Boots) [ATU 545B], Vžigalnik (The Tinderbox) [ATU 562] – and one which is a fairy tale, Kekec [ATU 1137]). Intertextually, they refer to folktale types.V slovenski (mladinski) književnosti izstopajo trije avtorji, ki so se ukvarjali z dramatiko in/ali gledališčem: to so Svetlana Makarovič, diplomirana igralka (npr. Sapramiška), Milan Jesih (Štiri igre za otroke, priredbe Andersenovih pravljic Cesarjeva nova oblačila in Grdi raček) in Andrej Rozman Roza.
International audienceThis article intends to analyze the specificities of women’s experiences in the Salvadoran war and postwar in Claudia Hernández’s novel Roza tumba quema (2017). The author focuses on narrative and discursive strategies whereby, in spite of an apparently simple style, the Salvadoran writer shows the complexity of the women’s situation during the war and after it, the difficulties of the female guerrillas reintegrating society and the impact that war violence has had on their descendants after the conflict, as they pass trauma on daughters and granddaughters in an unconscious and transgenerational way. The article further defines the strategies developed by women, especially peasant women, in order to survive and overcome violence, by emphasizing the narrative structure, its symbolism and the metaphorical and archetypal nature of a female lineage whose particular story could represent all the women affected directly or not by the violence of war.
The short story “Miss Jaqueline” by Livia Garcia-Roza, which makes up the collection Restou o dog, presents in the peculiar format of only dialogues, the routine of a submissive woman who lives under the yoke of her husband, who does not miss opportunities to humiliate her. -there. Even without the voice of a narrator, the reader can infer the couple\u27s routine and even some past events, based only on the narrative\u27s dialogues. Based on this premise, the present work proposes to analyze the condition of contemporary women, represented by the character Jaqueline, the symbolic/psychological violence and the consequent female silencing, as these are recurring themes in the short story proposed for analysis. In addition, we will consider the narrative characteristics adopted by the author.
