22-30Offshore excavation of Bet Dwarka (Shankhodhara) and Dwarka, which are said to have been submerged by the sea, has indicated remains of fortification walls and rock-cut slipways, meant for launching boats, submerged in the Gulf of Kutch near Bet Dwarka. A stone jetty and remains of a temple are found submerged seaward of the temple of Sea God near Dwarka. Two Bronze Age stone-anchors, an Indus type seal, an inscribed jar, a coppersmith's stone mould, iron and shell objects and post-Harappan pottery are among the datable finds from the excavation. On stratigraphic, ceramic and inscriptional evidence the submergence of Dwarka and Bet Dwarka seems to have taken place in the 14th century BC and the net rise in sea level since then is about 5 m

Present study was aimed to determine the seed quality of groundnut used for sowing by farmers of Devbhoomi Dwarka district of Gujarat. Eighty two samples of farmers saved seeds of groundnut were collected from four villages of Jam Khambhalia, six villages of Kalyanpur, one village of Dwarka and three villages of Bhanvad talukas of Devbhoomi Dwarka. The study revealed that 96.34 per cent of seed samples conformed to the prescribed seed standards for germination, moisture content, physical purity, insect infestation; while, 76.83 per cent of seed samples recorded equal or higher than 70 per cent field emergence. The results suggest that the quality of groundnut seed used for sowing by farmers was satisfactory in Devbhoomi Dwarka of Gujarat. However, farmers need to be more educated about the importance and advantages of using good quality certified seeds and shall be trained for maintenance of seed quality by adopting pre and post harvest measures so as to harvest good yields of the desired varieties.</jats:p

This thesis project deals with the various stages involved in the process of designing Socio-Cultural Centre, Dwarka in Zone II. The project is a real proposal by the DDA located In Sector 11 of Dwarka in front of Residential Area surrounded by Apartments and Market places of sector – 10. Extensive case studies are conducted for a better understanding of the functional and structural and aesthetic aspects of the typology and similar projects. Site Study is conducted for in depth knowledge of the site constraints and opportunities. Since, the proposed project is meant to be a state level socio cultural hub, in depth study of the city of Delhi is conducted for an understanding of geo-climatic, demographic and socio-cultural aspects of the region. The thesis involves architectural designing of the site from the site planning stage onwards to final design consideration of preparing detailed plans, sections, elevations, 3d renderings of the expected result and a comprehensive report on the complete thesis

Cultural sequence of Bet Dwarka island based on thermoluminescence dating

Earlier studies on the onshore and inter-tidal zone explorations in Bet Dwarka island had revealed the presence of a large number of potsherds and other antiquities that correspond to the protohistoric (2000- 1500 BC), historical (3rd century BC to 5th century AD) and medieval (8th century to 15th century AD) periods. Until the present time there has been a lack of absolute chronology. This study therefore attempts to address this deficiency. Accordingly, nine potsherds from four different sites of Bet Dwarka island were dated by thermoluminescence (TL). The ages obtained from site BDK-VI vary between 3870 and 2220 years BP; those from BDK-1 vary between 3160 and 830 years BP; those from BDK-11 vary between 1780 and 960 years BP, and those from Khuda Dost Dargah vary between 1240 and 880 years BP. When analysed on the basis of their locations, they are in conformity with the expected period. Interestingly, at site BDK-VI and BDK-1 a few potsherds, believed to be of protohistoric period, are apparently considerably more recent (2000 years BP), which may suggest the continuation of protohistoric habitation up to historical period at the same site. These TL ages assist in establishing a cultural sequence for Bet Dwarka island

The thesis involves architectural designing of the site from the site planning stage onwards to final design consideration of preparing detailed plans, sections, elevations and 3d renderings. Located adjacent to a DDA Sports Complex and amidst residential areas , it would come up as a great opportunity for the community to live and possess the modern culture and express their social needs or demands in the form of art. The project comes under public private partnership category , therefore half the site is already proposed by DDA which accommodates a number of retail stores and a large space for auditoriums in order to generate the revenue. Another half of the site is proposed for socio-cultural activities which come under the scope of this thesis project. The function of the space consists of a performing art centre, visual art center and a block for literary arts and administration. The performing art centre consists of an auditorium which accommodates 600 viewers at a time; different theatre, dance forms and cinema produced by budding artists can be presented. The visual art centre consists of multiple art galleries,l showcasing contemporary arts, sculpture art, photography, historical arts and abstract art. Small studios are also provided for the aspirants to learn the art form, from artists. A cafeteria is also a part of the building which gives the facility for refreshment and also attracts local crowds and helps in generating ample revenue. The form of the thesis project is kept geometric such that it merges with the surrounding and the other half of the site .There’s a hierarchy of built and unbuilt spaces, courtyards have been introduced to ensure natural lighting and ventilation throughout the buildin

Correction: On 05/06/2016 The spelling of the first author's name was changed from "Biren B Soni" to "Hiren B Soni".The preliminary investigation of marine mollusks of Beyt Dwarka was carried out to prepare a checklist at the island of Beyt Dwarka, Gulf of Kachchh (Eco-sensitive Zone), Okhamandal Taluka, Jamnagar District, Gujarat, India. The rapid ecological assessment revealed the occurrence of 82 species of mollusks, belonging to 61 genera, 32 families, 9 orders, and 3 classes (including uncommon / rare species). Of the reported species, Class Bivalvia was represented by 5 orders, 8 families, and 20 species, followed by 4 orders of Gastropoda distributed in 23 families and 60 species, and only 1 order (Scaphopoda) with 1 family and 2 species. Of 82 species, 67 species were common throughout the study period (October 2013 to February 2014), whereas 15 species were designated as uncommon or rare therein. The overall ratio of Order, Family and Species of recorded molluscan taxa was found to be 3.00: 3.56: 2.56. From the present survey, it was observed that the study area (Beyt Dwarka) is endowed with rich diversity of marine mollusks prevailed therein. Therefore, it should be declared as “Sanctum sanctorum” by employing grassroots efforts involving local inhabitants with the help of forest officials suggesting site-specific conservation and management strategies.International Journal of Environment Vol.4(2) 2015: 243-255</p

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
