Balaganjur merupakan salah satu gamelan Bali yang digolongkan ke dalam kelompok gamelan madya dan diperkirakan berkembang setelah abad ke sepuluh. Kata Balaganjur terbentuk dari penggabungan dua suku kata yaitu Bala dan Ganjur. Bala berarti prajurit, laskar, atau tentara. Sedangkan Ganjur yang berarti tombak yaitu sejenis senjata tajam dengan tangkai yang panjang. Bila kedua suku kata ini digabungkan, kata Balaganjur akan mempunyai arti sebagai sekelompok orang, pasukan atau tentara yang membawa tombak.Gamelan Balaganjur merupakan sebuah orkestra tradisional bali yang didominasi oleh alat-alat perkusi. Perubahan yang cukup mendasar dari gamelan Balaganjur belakangan ini adalah menyangkut fungsi, yang selama ini sebagai gamelan pengiring prosesi menjadi gamelan yang dipertunjukan secara mandiri. Para pemain mulai mengubah sikap tampil dengan menambahkan gerak-gerak tubuh atau menabuh sambil menari.
Dengan melihat perkembangan Balaganjur yang sekarang, penata merasa terdorong untuk membuat sebuah garapan Balaganjur yang berbeda dengan suasana baru, dan memadukan instrumen yang berbahan dari kerawang dengan instrumen yang berbahan dari bambu.
Dalam seni karawitan, sumber inspirasi untuk menciptakan sebuah karya seni sangatlah banyak, seperti fenomena alam Maka berpijak dari hal tersebut penata terinspirasi untuk membuat sebuah garapan Balaganjur dengan menggunakan tema fenomena alam yaitu hujan.
Hujan adalah peristiwa turunnya butir-butir air dari langit ke permukaan bumi. Hujan biasanya disertai dengan suara gemuruh, petir dan hembusan angin yang tidak menentu kadang muncul secara tiba-tiba, sama seperti turunnya hujan atau jatuhnya butir-butir air hujan yang tidak menentu seketika hujan itu bisa deras, gerimis dan berhenti secara tiba-tiba.
Dari suasana fenomena alam hujan, kemudian diungkapkan pada sebuah garapan Balaganjur dengan suasana baru yang terinspirasi dari pengalaman pribadi penata. Dengan menggunakan media ungkap gamelan Balaganjur yang dipadukan dengan instrumen tek-tekan. Dalam garapan ini penata membuat sebuah perpaduan warna suara dalam gamelan Balaganjur melalui instrumen yang berbahan dari kerawang dengan instrumen yang berbahan dari bambu, di mana dalam perpaduan ini menimbulkan warna suara yang berbeda. Hal tersebut melatar belakangi untuk membuat karya seni Balaganjur dengan mengambil judul Sabeh. Arti kata Sabeh dalam bahasa Indonesia adalah Hujan.
Dalam karya Balaganjur inovatif ini penata ingin memasukkan inovasi-inovasi dalam musikalitasnya namun tidak meninggalkan kesan musikal asli dari media ungkap yang digunakan. Karya yang penata buat terdiri dari tiga bagian. Pada bagian pertama penata ingin menggambarkan suasana detik-detik terjadinya hujan. Pada bagian kedua penata menggambarkan suasana hujan deras yang tidak menentu. Pada bagian ketiga penata menggambarkan suasana hujan yang mulai reda.
ABSTRACT
Balaganjur is one of the Balinese gamelan that is classified into the middle gamelan group and is estimated to develop after the tenth century. Balaganjur word formed from the merger of two syllables namely Bala and Ganjur. Bala means warrior, army, or soldier. While Ganjur which means a spear is a kind of sharp weapon with a long stalk. When these two syllables are combined, the word Balaganjur will mean a group of people, troops or soldiers carrying spears. Balaganjur gamelan is a traditional Balinese orchestra dominated by percussion instruments. The fundamental change of the Balaganjur gamelan lately is the function, which has been a gamelan accompaniment of the procession into a gamelan that is shown independently. The players begin to change attitudes by adding gestures or beating while dancing.
Given the current Balaganjur development, the stylists feel compelled to create a Balaganjur cultivation that is different from the new atmosphere, and combines an instrument made from filigree with instruments made from bamboo.
In the art of karawitan, the source of inspiration to create a work of art is very much, like a natural phenomenon So from that the stylist is inspired to make a Balaganjur cultivation by using the theme of natural phenomenon that is rain.
Rain is the event of the drops of water from heaven to the surface of the earth. Rain is usually accompanied by thunderous sounds, lightning and wind gusts sometimes appear suddenly, just like the rain or fall of rain drops erratically rain that instant can be heavy, drizzle and stop suddenly.
From the atmosphere of the natural phenomenon of rain, then expressed on a Balaganjur claim with a new atmosphere that is inspired from the personal experience of the stylist. By using the media revealed Balaganjur gamelan combined with press-press instruments. In this cultivation stylists create a blend of sound colors in the Balaganjur gamelan through instruments made from filigree with instruments made of bamboo, which in this combination gives rise to different sound colors. It is background to create Balaganjur artwork by taking the title of Sabeh. The meaning of the word Sabeh in Indonesian is Rain.
In this innovative Balaganjur work stylists want to incorporate innovations in their musicality but leave no genuine musical impression from the revealed medium used. The work of the stylist consists of three parts. In the first part of the stylists want to describe the atmosphere of the seconds of the rain. In the second part stylist describes the atmosphere of heavy rain that is not stabilized. In the third part of the stylists describe the mood of rain that began to subside
