Optimisation of the Supply Chain of Duris OÜ (Ltd
No full textKäesolev lõputöö on koostatud Duris OÜ näitel ning töö eesmärgiks oli leida kinnitus töö autori arvamusele, et alternatiivse tootjaga koostöö alustamine aitaks suurendada Duris OÜ puhastulu ning laiendada ettevõtte kliendibaasi. Selleks, et nimetatud arvamust kinnitada, tegi töö autor kindlaks, kas alternatiivbrändil on sarnaseid tooteid, nagu praegusel koostööpartneril ning seejärel, võttes alternatiivbrändi tooted ja andmed, kui palju müüdi aasta jooksul praeguse koostööpartneri samade omadustega tooteid, tegi kindlaks, kui suur oleks Duris OÜ kulu samades kogustes alternatiivbrändi toodete sisseostmisel. Kolmandaks tegi töö autor kindlaks, kas ja kui suur oleks Duris OÜ tulu, kui Duris OÜ lõpetaks koostöö praeguse koostööpartneriga ning alustaks koostööd alternatiivbrändiga. Lisaks vaatles töö autor nii praeguse tootja kui ka alternatiivtootja poolt pakutavaid lisahüvesid ja tegi kindlaks, kas alternatiivtootjaga koostöö alustamine võiks tuua Duris OÜ-le kaasa klientide juurdekasvu. Siinkohal märgib töö autor, et käesoleva töö kirjutamise käigus sai töö autor kinnitust varasemale teadmisele, et koostöösuhted J Beverly Hillsiga, mis olid alguses paljulubavad, on osutunud vägagi heitlikuks ning ainult J Beverly Hillsi huvisid silmaspidavateks. Käesoleval hetkel ei võimalda ettevõte Duris OÜ-le enam algselt lubatud, meeskonnakoolitusi. Samuti ei paku tooja lisatuge salongile, mis üritab nende toodet vääriliselt uuel turul presenteerida. Lisaks kõigele puudub ka kvaliteetne reklaammaterjal nii videote kui ka plakatite näol ning kampaaniate puhul ei saadeta kaasa postreid pakkumiste sisuga ega ka mingit informatsiooni, kuidas salong antud kampaaniat lõpptarbijatele parimini tutvustada saaks. Peale selle ei saadeta Duris OÜ-le ka pakendeid, kuhu oleks võimalik kliendi poolt ostetu talle kvaliteetselt kaasa pakendada. Ühtlasi on osad muudatused, näiteks PLATINUM sarja uuendamine toonud Duris OÜ-le kaasa ootamatu ja ebameeldiva üllatuse: kauni tootepakendi asemel, millel oli tavapäraselt sissepressitud tekst, on nüüd etiketid lihtsalt peale liimitud ning seejuures, nagu juba märgitud, selliselt, et vana kiri on alt selgesti nähtav. Sellise käitumise teeb ebameeldivamaks seegi, et esialgu oli tegemist väga kena disainiga pakenditega, mis kutsusid kasutama. Lisaks sellele tõusis toodete sisseostuhind 40%, mis loob tavapärase ootuse, et toode on oma eelkäijast igati parem. Tõe huvides peab töö autor siinkohal küll märkima, et hiljem saabusid kenades karpides uued tooted. Arvestades aga, et hinnatõusu järel saadeti Duris OÜ-le poolik nö tutvustustoode, mis ei olnud lõpp-produkti välimuse ega koostisega, oli see toonud juba niigi halbadesse suhetesse kaasa täiendavaid pingeid. Lisaks puudub J Beverly Hillsil korrektne hinnapoliitika, kuna enamus tutvustusi tehakse Ameerika turule, aga Euroopas neid kasutada ei saa, kuna tarne suudetakse teostada Euroopa vahelattu alles kuskil kolme kuuga, mis omakorda tähendab, et pakkumised on juba aegunud ja ei ole enam aktuaalsed. Samuti ei ole ühisturustus võimalik, kuna hinnad on erinevad, kuna lisanduvad transpordikulud. Tootja aga Euroopa turu jaoks eraldi pakkumisi ei tee. J Beverly Hillsil puudub ka ühtne juhtimissüsteem Euroopa ja Ameerika vahel ning korrektne infovahetus, kuna Ameerika poolel on viimase paari aasta jooksul toimunud juhtkonna (turustajad ning peakoolitajad) vahetumine, mis on tekitanud palju segadust ning infosulgusid. Ettevõttel on võimalik saada tulu alternatiivbrändi kasutuselevõtmisest nii värvide kui ka kasutustoodete pealt. Lisaks saab ettevõte juurde märkimisväärselt lisandväärtust NYCE poolt pakutavatele koolituststele ning ürituste promomisest, andes kasutada tootja poolt pakutavaid tarvikuid ürituste läbiviimiseks.Duris Ltd. was established in 2015 in Estonia and its core business is the import, storage and distribution of professional hair care products. The purpose of this graduation thesis was to find confirmation, on the example of Duris OÜ (Ltd.), for the author's opinion that cooperating with an alternative manufacturer would help to increase the net income of Duris OÜ (Ltd.) and expand the company's customer base. To this end, the author of this thesis firstly described the day-to-day problems experienced by Duris OÜ (Ltd.) in relation to the supply chain, which are caused by the current cooperation partner J Beverly Hills. Conjointly, the author examined the contract with the given supplier and discussed the keeping of its contents agreements. Furthermore, the author of this thesis reviewed the costs and revenues of Duris OÜ (Ltd.) during one financial year, taking into account the cost price of the products, transport and storage costs. Subsequently, after analysing the products and the agreement offered by the current partner, the author ascertained whether an alternative brand offers similar products. Having found similar products, the author considered the cost prices of the other manufacturer. After reviewing the cost prices of the alternative brand’s products, the author examined the number of products sold by Duris OÜ (Ltd.) over one financial year and calculated it with the new multiplier, that is, the cost price of the alternative brand. As a result, the author was able to determine the potential cost for Duris OÜ (Ltd.) when importing the products offered by the alternative brand. Further, knowing the annual cost of using an alternative brand, the author of this thesis was able to determine the difference between the costs of the two manufacturers, that is, the cost of the current cooperation partner and the alternatiive manufacturer. Based on the difference between these two costs, the author was able to conclude whether and how much Duris OÜ (Ltd.) would be able to profit from the termination of cooperation with the current partner and starting a cooperation with a new manufacturer. The author also looked at the product sizes offered by both manufactures and compared them, while adding to their comparisons the author’s comments and views that have emerged as a result of servicing Duris OÜ's (Ltd.’s) current customer base. Thereupon, after looking at the delivery routes/channels of both manufacturers, pricing and additional rewards, the author of this thesis was able to conclude whether it would be more profitable for Duris OÜ to carry out a change of manufacturer in order to optimize the supply chain of Duris OÜ (Ltd.). In conclusion, having worked through the key elements essential to the optimization of the supply chain, the author reviewed the unit costs, the total cost of the company Duris OÜ, as well as looking at various options for turning the company’s alternative costs into revenue. Finally, as a result of the combined case study carried out by the author, he was able to arrive at a conclusion, that is, answer the questions about whether and why, and by what measures and methods it would be most beneficial for Duris OÜ (Ltd.) to replace the current cooperation partner with a new manufacturer

Tragedies of war in Duris and Phylarchus: social memory and experiential history
No full textPolybius’ criticism of his historiographical predecessor Phylarchus for ‘writing like a tragic playwright’ has given rise to the theory that there was a branch of Hellenistic history writing which deliberately fused tragedy and history, perhaps under the influence of Aristotle’s dictum that tragedy is more philosophical than history because it deals (more) with universals whereas historiography deals (more) with particulars. Although the theory that there was an actual Peripatetic school of ‘tragic historiography’ no longer holds sway, most scholars still operate with a split between ‘serious’ or ‘sober’ Hellenistic historiography as written by Polybius and ‘tragic’ or ‘sensationalist’ Hellenistic historiography as written by Phylarchus and others whose works are now largely lost. This paper aims to take so-called tragic historiography seriously and examine its possible purpose(s) and justification. By a study of the fragments of Phylarchus, Duris of Samos, and Agatharchides of Cnidus it emerges that the ‘tragic’ historians aimed at arousing the reader’s pity through the use of literary enargeia for the twin purposes of honouring the memory of the victims of atrocities and teaching the reader not to commit such atrocities himself. It is important to remember that atrocities such as sackings of cities were a fact of life at the time Phylarchus, Duris, and Agatharchides were writing, and their intended readership will have included potential victims, perpetrators, and bystanders alike. A third purpose was probably to make sure the ugly truth (as they considered it, even if it was often based on cultural memory rather than fact) became known: Phylarchus seems to have written in conscious opposition to Aratus of Sicyon on the sack of Mantinea, and Duris was writing the anti-Athenian version of the quelling of the Samian Revolt
Diffusive author(s), cohesive author: Analysis of S/N (1994)
No full textThis study indicates the ways in which various aspects of the author(s) are brought forth in Dumb type’s performance art, the S/N production. Previous research has suggested a non-hierarchical organization of Dumb type and the absence of a “privileged author” in Dumb type’s collaborative work, S/N. However, the results that I have investigated from member’s interviews on the creative process of S/N along with my analysis of the recorded images of S/N, indicate a different aspect of the author(s). First, S/N was created through, so to speak, the collective ideas of the members of Dumb type. Further, S/N has at least nine quotations from previous performances, installations, and printed writings, besides the work-in-progress technique. Explicating one of the “author functions” as given by Michel Foucault, each text has plural subjects of the author. However, it has been revealed from members’ interviews that Teiji Furuhashi had a decision-making role in selecting the members’ ideas within the performance. Since then, S/N has had plural subjects of creation; however, Furuhashi is one of the subjects of creation along with the “privileged author.” S/N has plural authors (diffusive authors) yet at the same time, it has a “privileged author,” Teiji Furuhashi (cohesive author)
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Development of solid lipid microparticles by melt-emulsification/spray-drying processes as carriers for pulmonary drug delivery
No full textThe aim of this study was to optimize the parameters of the complex melt-emulsification process coupled with the spray-drying, in order to maintain the balance between solid lipid microparticles (SLMs) powders aerodynamic performance and salbutamol sulfate release rate. Quality target product profile was identified and risk management and principal component analysis were used to guide formulation development. Obtained dry powders for inhalation (DPIs) were evaluated in terms of SLMs size distribution, morphology, true density, drug content, solid state characterization studies, in vitro aerosol performance and in vitro drug release. SLMs micrographs indicated spherical, porous particles. Selected powders showed satisfactory aerosol performance with a mean mass aerodynamic diameter of around 3 μm and acceptable fine particle fraction (FPF). Addition of trehalose positively affected SLMs aerodynamic properties. The results of in vitro dissolution testing indicated that salbutamol sulfate release from the tested SLMs formulations was modified, in comparison to the raw drug release. In conclusion, SLMs in a form of DPIs were successfully developed and numerous factors that affects SLMs properties were identified in this study. Further research is required for full understanding of each factor's influence on SLMs properties and optimization of DPIs with maximized FPFs
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
