Waldemar Cordeiro e Wesley Duke Lee: Arte, temporalidade e (anti)modernidade em São Paulo (1950 -1964)
Get PDFThis article seeks to discuss the artistic languages of Waldemar Cordeiro and Wesley Duke Lee in the midst of the metropolization and cosmopolitanization process of São Paulo city between the 1950s and 1964. We approach the works of the two artists from the way in which they both constituted, aesthetically and politically, temporalities from São Paulo's modernity. To fulfill the scope of this study, we put into discussion the artistic debates of the time, placing the two intellectuals from their perspectives on modernity and visuality: Cordeiro being identified with concretism and Duke Lee with neodadaism and surrealism. Finally, we point out the differences between the artists' proposals to weave temporalities, triggering utopian and modernizing sensibilities in Waldemar Cordeiro and nostalgic and antimodern ones in Wesley Duke Lee.

presente artigo busca discutir as linguagens artísticas de Waldemar Cordeiro e Wesley Duke Lee em meio ao processo de metropolização e cosmopolitização da cidade de São Paulo entre a década de 1950 e 1964. Abordamos as obras dos dois artistas a partir do modo como ambos constituíram, estética e politicamente, temporalidades com base na modernidade paulistana. Para cumprir o escopo deste estudo, colocamos em discussão os debates artísticos da época, situando os dois intelectuais a partir de suas perspectivas sobre modernidade e visualidade: Cordeiro identificado ao concretismo e Duke Lee ao neodadaísmo e surrealismo. Por fim, apontamos as diferenças entre as propostas dos artistas em urdir temporalidades, acionando sensibilidades utópicas e modernizantes em Waldemar Cordeiro e nostálgicas e antimodernas em Wesley Duke Lee.

Wesley Duke Lee e o filiarcado: ensaio alquímico com jogos infantis
No full textA presente pesquisa teve como finalidade estudar a última série de trabalhos do artista brasileiro Wesley Duke Lee (1931 – 2010), a saber: O Filiarcado – Ensaio Alquímico com Jogos Infantis, 1999. Como grande parte da produção do artista; trata-se de uma obra autobiográfica, porém, mascarada de arcanos que o artesão de ilusões, como se autonominava, transportou para o seu imaginário, tendo como base um álbum de gravuras produzidas pelo artista barroco Jacques Stella (1596-1657), com desenhos de putti brincando. As obras foram desenhadas sobre uma superfície áspera, semelhante a paredes de caverna que Duke Lee tomou como referência a Gruta de Chauvet na França, descoberta em 1994, tingindo-as em três tons terra: amarelo, vermelho e preto ou albedo, rubedo e nigredo que representam na Magnum Opus da alquimia: a purificação, a iluminação e a morte espiritual. Buscando pontos de confluência entre a poética do artista e a sua história de vida, a série está sendo analisada na significância destas referências sob a estética autobiográfica. Dessa pesquisa buscamos encontrar pontos de convergência que nos levam para o imaginário do artista, procurando entender como ele se via no cenário da arte brasileira e quais as contribuições que trouxe para a história da arte.The purpose of this research was to study the lastest series of works by the Brazilian artist Wesley Duke Lee (1931 - 2010), namely: The Filiarcado - Alchemical Essay with Children's Games, 1999. As a large part of the artist's production; it is an autobiographical work, however, masquerading by arcane that the artisan of illusions, as he called himself, transported to his imagination based on an album of engravings produced by baroque artist Jacques Stella (1596-1657), with drawings by putti joking. The works were designed on a rough surface, similar to the cave walls that Duke Lee took as a reference to the Chauvet Cave in France, discovered in 1994, dyeing them in three earth tones: yellow, red and black or albedo, rubedo. and nigredo that represent in the Magnum Opus of alchemy: the purification, the illumination and the spiritual death. Searching for points of confluence between the artist's poetics and his life story, the series is being analyzed on the significance of these references under autobiographical aesthetic. From this research we seek to find points of convergence that lead us to the artist's imagination, trying to understand how he saw himself in the Brazilian art scene and what contributions he brought to the history of art.Instituto Presbiteriano Mackenzi
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
