No full textThis piece, titled “Ernest Thomas Seton: an unforgettable personality”, gives a first hand interpretation of who Ernest Thompson Seton (it is believed that whoever put the cover on this document spelled his name wrong) was through the eyes of Edgar Robinson. Robinson explains what a strong relationship the two of them had and what a strong mentor Seton was to Robinson. Ernest Thompson Seton was an author and illustrator of more than 50 works, and was largely responsible for the American Indian influence in the Boy Scouts of America that offered young people knowledge of an outdoor life based on Native American Indian customs, legends and beliefs. Seton was Chief Scout of the Boy Scouts of America from 1910 to 1915. Edgar M. Robinson was a 1901 graduate from the YMCA Training School, now Springfield college, where he later returned to serve on the faculty as the Honorary Director of Boys Work Courses and the Adviser in Methods and Principles in Work with Boys from 1927-1937.For biographical information on Edgar M. Os paratextos das antologias brasileiras de contos de Edgar Allan Poe no século XXI
No full textTese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2014.Esta tese analisa elementos paratextuais em antologias brasileiras de contos de Edgar Allan Poe lançados ou reeditados nos doze primeiros anos do século XXI, verificando de que forma o autor e sua obra são apresentados ao leitor através desses paratextos. Para tanto, analiso quartas capas, orelhas, prefácios, posfácios e notas. O nível de participação do tradutor na utilização desses elementos é também examinado, para que se possa averiguar até que ponto esse intermediador de culturas teve visibilidade nas publicações. A referida análise é norteada, principalmente, pelos fundamentos teóricos de Gérard Genette, sobretudo em seu livro intitulado Paratextos Editoriais (2009), do original Seuils (1987).Abstract : This thesis analyzes paratextual elements in Edgar Allan Poe's Brazilian anthologies of short stories published or reprinted in the first twelve years of the 21st century, observing how the author and his fictional writings are presented to the reader through those paratexts. Thus, I analyze back pages, flaps, forewords, afterwords, and notes. The use the translator made of those elements is examined in order to assess the translator's visibility in the published editions. The referred analysis is grounded mainly on Gérard Genette's theory, especially in his book entitled Editorial Paratexts (2009) from the original Seuils (1987)

been interpreted antagonistically by large numbers of critics. This study analyzes the features
unique to Edgar Allan Poe in his short stories “Murders In The Rue Morgue”, “The Fall of
The House of Usher”, “A Tale of Jerusalem”, “The Pit and The Pendulum”, “The System of
Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether”, “A Cask Of Amonillado”, “The Masque of Red Death”
and “The Man That Was Used Up” while refuting to chosen examples of negative reviews
about Edgar Allan Poe.
Due to the fact that Edgar Allan Poe is well-known for his usage horror, satire, humor and
fiction in his short stories, these qualities have been criticized mostly by many writers and
philosophers as well. In this sense, the scope of the study will be sharpened on how these
techniques are used in his short stories to make them nonpareil and what was Edgar Allan
Poe’s authorial intention while utilizing these attributes in his works. At this point the analysis
of the characters, themes and plot will be prioritized compared to the language and style that
Edgar Allan Poe uses in his texts.
Since the criticism against Poe focus on the usefulness of such features in his short stories and
how they intimidate the reader from the text, the study proves that the gap between Poe and
the reader is a simple issue of reciprocal misunderstanding which is proven to be artificial and
bogus with examples and facts from his short stories

La desaparición forzada de personas y la (in)aplicabilidad de los tratados internacionales sobre el tema en Brasil: un análisis del caso Edgar de Aquino Duarte
No full textEn 18 de junio de 2021, el 9º Juzgado Penal Federal de São Paulo condenó Carlos Alberto Augusto, ex agente de la represión política brasileña, a 2 años y 11 meses de prisión, por su participación en el encarcelamiento de Edgar de Aquino Duarte, ocurrido en 13 de junio de 1971, en São Paulo, acto que fue el preludio de la desaparición forzada de Edgar de Aquino Duarte. Desde esta perspectiva, este estudio tiene como objetivo investigar cómo el derecho humano a no desaparecer forzadamente ha sido tratado por la justicia brasileña. Para ello, se buscó comprender cómo ha surgido la desaparición forzada de personas en el ámbito del Derecho Internacional de los Derechos Humanos y cómo se conceptualiza la práctica, tratando de entender cómo este fenómeno se ha convertido en un delito reprobado internacionalmente. Además, fue necesario enumerar los tratados de lo Sistema Onusiano y de lo Sistema Interamericano de Protección de los Derechos Humanos en materia de desaparición forzada de personas, a fin de determinar si el Brasil ha aplicado o no estos tratados internacionales, efectivamente, en los casos de desaparición forzada de personas ocurridos en lo territorio brasileño, especialmente durante el contexto dictatorial. Igualmente, se examinó, desde un punto de vista legal, cómo ocurrió la práctica de la desaparición forzada de personas durante la dictadura militar brasileña y, finalmente, se realizó el análisis de la Acción Penal del caso Edgar de Aquino Duarte, para exponer la relevancia de la aplicación del Derecho Internacional de los Derechos Humanos en la resolución judicial del caso concreto. Para ello, se realizó una investigación cualitativa y exploratoria, partiendo del método de enfoque deductivo, con el fin de dar respuesta al problema en estudio. Sin embargo, no existe protección de las personas, por el Estado brasileño, contra la desaparición forzada, ni proactividade en la investigación, enjuiciamento, sanción o reparación de los daños causados por las desapariciones forzadas de personas ocurridas durante el régimen dictatorial brasileño.Em 18 de junho de 2021, a 9ª Vara Federal Criminal de São Paulo sentenciou Carlos Alberto Augusto, ex-agente da repressão política brasileira, a 2 anos e 11 meses de reclusão, em razão da sua participação na prisão de Edgar de Aquino Duarte, ocorrida em 13 de junho de 1971, em São Paulo, ato esse que foi o prelúdio para o desaparecimento forçado de Edgar de Aquino Duarte. Sob essa ótica, o presente escrito objetiva investigar como o direito humano ao não desaparecimento forçado vem sendo tratado pelo Judiciário brasileiro. Para tanto, buscou-se compreender como ocorreu o surgimento do desaparecimento forçado de pessoas no âmbito do Direito Internacional dos Direitos Humanos e como se conceitua essa prática, procurando entender como esse fenômeno se transformou em um delito internacionalmente reprovado. Além disso, foi necessário elencar os tratados do Sistema Onusiano e do Sistema Interamericano de Proteção dos Direitos Humanos referentes ao desaparecimento forçado de pessoas, com o intuito de averiguar se o Brasil realmente tem aplicado ou não esses tratados internacionais de direitos humanos nos casos de desaparecimento forçado de pessoas ocorridos no território brasileiro, especialmente para aqueles desaparecimentos que ocorreram durante o contexto ditatorial. Outrossim, examinou-se, do ponto de vista jurídico, como se deu a prática do desaparecimento forçado de pessoas durante a ditadura militar brasileira e realizou-se, por fim, a análise da Ação Penal do caso Edgar de Aquino Duarte, com a finalidade de expor a relevância da aplicação do Direito Internacional dos Direitos Humanos para a resolução judicial do caso concreto. Para tanto, realizou-se uma pesquisa qualitativa e exploratória, partindo do método de abordagem dedutivo, de modo a responder a problemática em estudo. Não se observou, entretanto, a proteção das pessoas, no Estado brasileiro, contra o desaparecimento forçado, nem tampouco proatividade do Brasil em investigar, processar, punir ou, ainda, em reparar os danos causados pelos desaparecimentos forçados de pessoas ocorridos durante o regime ditatorial brasileiro
