How do human activity pollutants like car gasoline and waste cooking oil affect the pH and oxygen levels in water bodies consisting of the water plant Elodea? (Which can be correlated with Lake Pollution in Ankara)
Having lived in Ankara, I have always appreciated the scenic views of the lakes which are important natural features and recreational areas for the people. However, On my last trip to Lake Mogan in Ankara, I noticed an alarming layer of oil floating on the surface of the water, as well as a mild smell of petrol. Locals told me that the lake, which was once teeming with life, had fallen victim to pollution from the surrounding city, including the careless dumping of
used cooking oil and road runoff containing petrol. This made me think about how these seemingly benign, everyday pollutants could be major issues for fragile aquatic environments. In particular, I found myself wondering about their effects on the more basic quality indicators
of water, such as pH and concentration of oxygen, which are important for the existence of aquatic vascular plants like Elodea
An Investigation into the Effect of Different Beverages on Eggshell Structure
What is the Effect of Beverage Exposure (Cola, Energy Drink, Milk, Water, and Orange Juice) Over a 4-Week Period, Measured Through Visual Changes, Mass Loss, and Surface Degradation, on Eggshells as a Model for Tooth Enamel
The Relationship Between Temperature and Visible Thermal Radiation of an Incandescent Tungsten
What makes this topic interesting is how thermal radiation and electromagnetic waves are closely connected. As the filament heats up, the emitted radiation transitions from invisible infrared to visible light all depending on temperature. By manipulating something as straightforward as electrical power, we can observe this shift and better understand the physics behind it. This experiment allows me to explore concepts that have been part of my surroundings in a more scientific and structured way and illustrates how everyday observations are connected to broader scientific ideas
How does the applied tension on a wire influence its resonance frequency?
A wave is, in general, a disturbance that moves through a medium. It carries energy from one location to another without transporting the material of the medium (Giancoli 310). This disturbance creates a momentary displacement, and the object returns to equilibrium position. The reason why it is called a standing wave is that it doesn’t appear to be travelling. Standing waves occur at specific frequencies known as natural or resonant frequencies. They result from the interference of two waves moving in opposite directions, having the same magnitude (Giancoli 315). A standing wave can also be defined as a wave with no horizontal movement, vibrating only vertically (“Standing Waves Review”)
Optimizing the Size of a Household Battery Storage System and Rooftop PV Solar System to Minimize Carbon Emissions and Total ElectricityRelated Costs
The need for environmental friendly methods to reduce carbon emissions and minimize electricity costs becomes increasingly urgent as the world's energy consumption keeps rising. A promising method to address these issues is household battery storage systems, that increase the reliability and effectiveness of using renewable energy. Households can save electricity costs and their carbon impact by carefully reducing the size of these systems and creating efficient charging and discharging habits. This Extended Essay investigates the balance between economic efficiency and environmental advantages in household energy systems by examining how to achieve such optimization using simulations
