Impact of educational intervention on knowledge, attitude and awareness of good clinical practice among health care providers
Background: Clinical trials play an important role in the generation of evidence-based data in health care practices. To ensure the credibility of data and the safety and well-being of the patients Good clinical practice (GCP) guidelines play an important role. At present, we have little knowledge about awareness of GCP guidelines among health care providers in India.
Aim: To assess the level of awareness, and perception of the health care providers toward GCP and subsequent change in these after a dayer training session on GCP guidelines.
Settings and Design: A cross-sectional descriptive questionnaire-based study was conducted amongst health care providers, that is, doctors, dentists, nurses of a Tertiary Health Care and Teaching Institute.
Materials and Methods: Participants were given descriptive questionnaire; they completed the questionnaire before and after undergoing a day training program in GCP guidelines.
Statistical Analysis Used: The impact of the effectiveness of educational intervention among healthcare professionals was evaluated by two-tailed Z-test.
Results: Out of 120 participants, 80 were medical doctors, 20 dental doctors, and 20 nurses. A dayse training program on GCP guidelines was found to increase positive attitudes toward various aspects of clinical trials.
Conclusion: A day's training program on GCP guidelines may help to increase the knowledge as well as awareness about principles and techniques of clinical research, which will increase the credibility of clinical research in the country
Extrato de semente de Mucuna pruriens (feijão aveludado) melhora a epilepsia e a ansiedade contra modelos experimentais in vivo: uma análise histopatológica
Introduction: the plant Mucuna pruriens is traditionally used in Indian system ofmedicine for the therapy of several neurological disorders. Chemical investigationson the plant have established the presence of levodopa and tryptamine which areresponsible for treating the neurological disorders like Parkinsonism. Objective:the objective of this research was to scientifically explore and ascertain its antiepilepticand anxiolytic activity in preclinical studies on Swiss albino mice. Materialand Method: the antiepileptic and anxiolytic effect of ethanolic extract of Mucunapruriens (EEMP) tested against maximal electroshock (MES) pentylenetetrazol(PTZ)-induced convulsions, Elevated Plus Maze, and light and dark arena. Actophotometertest performed to evaluate its potential locomotor activity deficitinducing action. Result: treatment of mice with EEMP significantly upturned theMES-induced convulsions, which was reflected by diminution in the time interval(sec) of entire phases of MES-induced convulsions, with an improvement in GABAlevels. In the PTZ model, pretreatment with EEMP delayed the latency and reducedthe intensity to clonic convulsions (p< 0.0001), and also delayed the latency oftonic convulsions as well as decrease the mortality mice in the treated groups ina dose-dependent manner. EEMP intervention dose dependently restored brainGABA levels. Assessment of GABA in mice’s brain after administration of EEMPexhibits significant modulation of GABA levels. Conclusion: overall, the findingssuggest that Mucuna pruriens has anticonvulsant and anxiolytic properties that aremediated by positive GABAergic neurotransmission hence could be used to treatepileptic seizures, petitmal and grandmal epilepsy.Introducción: la planta Mucuna pruriens se utiliza tradicionalmente en el sistemaindio de medicina para la terapia de varios trastornos neurológicos. Las investigacionesquímicas en la planta han establecido la presencia de levodopa y triptamina,que son responsables del tratamiento de trastornos neurológicos como el parkinsonismo.Objetivo: el objetivo de esta investigación fue explorar y determinar científicamentesu actividad antiepiléptica y ansiolítica en estudios preclínicos en ratonesalbinos suizos. Material y método: el efecto antiepiléptico y ansiolítico del extractoetanólico de Mucuna pruriens (EMPE) se ensayó frente a convulsiones inducidaspor electrochoque máximo (MES) pentilentetrazol (PTZ), Laberinto Elevado Plusy arena clara y oscura. Prueba de actofotómetro realizada para evaluar su potencialacción inductora de déficit de actividad locomotora. Resultado: el tratamiento deratones con EEMP aumentó significativamente las convulsiones inducidas por MES,lo que se reflejó por la disminución en el intervalo de tiempo (s) de fases completasde convulsiones inducidas por MES, con una mejora en los niveles de GABA. Enel modelo PTZ, el pretratamiento con EEMP retrasó la latencia y redujo la intensidadde las convulsiones clónicas (p< 0,0001), y también retrasó la latencia de lasconvulsiones tónicas, así como disminuyó la mortalidad de los ratones en los grupostratados de una manera dependiente de la dosis. La intervención de EMPE restauróde forma dependiente de la dosis los niveles de GABA en el cerebro. La evaluaciónde GABA en el cerebro de ratones después de la administración de EEMP muestrauna modulación significativa de los niveles de GABA. Conclusión: en general, loshallazgos sugieren que Mucuna pruriens tiene propiedades anticonvulsivas y ansiolíticas que están mediadas por neurotransmisión GABAérgica positiva, por lo quepodría usarse para tratar convulsiones epilépticas, epilepsia pequeña y granular.Introdução: a planta Mucuna pruriens é tradicionalmente utilizada na medicinaindiana para o tratamento de diversas desordens neurológicas. Multifaceted Responses to Heat Stress in Plants: A Review of the Morpho-physiological, Biochemical and Anatomical Changes
Heat stress, a significant abiotic factor, adversely affects plant growth and productivity by disrupting various physiological and biochemical processes. Plants, being immobile, respond to environmental changes through alterations in gene expression, metabolism, and growth dynamics. Elevated temperatures, exceeding the threshold for heat tolerance, negatively influence critical functions such as photosynthesis, respiration, water balance, and membrane stability. Root development is particularly sensitive to heat stress, resulting in reduced root mass and impaired water and nutrient uptake. Photosynthetic capacity diminishes due to decreased chlorophyll content and impaired photochemical reactions, leading to reduced biomass and yield. Heat stress impacts plant water status by disturbing hydraulic conductivity and increasing membrane permeability, leading to dehydration and a decline in water potential. This stress reduces membrane stability, resulting in electrolyte leakage and cellular damage. It also induces the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which requires the activation of antioxidant enzymes to minimize oxidative stress. Also, to maintain osmotic balance and enhance stress tolerance, plants accumulate osmolytes such as proline. Additionally, anatomical adaptations in leaves, stems, and roots, such as changes in stomatal density, xylem vessel size, and gas exchange patterns, highlight the plant\u27s strategies to cope with heat stress. Understanding these varied responses is crucial for developing strategies to enhance crop resilience in the face of increasing global temperatures and climate change
