    Exploring Ethnomathematics in Batak Toba Carvings for Locally-based Mathematics Teaching Material

    Sebagai salah satu ornamen adat suku Batak Toba, “gorga” memiliki makna filosofis dan berfungsi untuk memperindah dekorasi rumah adat. Motif gorga memiliki ciri khas tersendiri, dengan pola yang tersusun rapat dan desain yang simetris. Hal ini menunjukkan adanya aspek matematis dalam pola ukiran gorga tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesimetrian yang terdapat pada motif gorga yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan ajar matematika berbasis lokal. Kajian dilakukan dengan mengeksplorasi berbagai motif gorga dan menganalisis jenis simetrinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian etnografi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mengamati bangunan yang berhiaskan motif gorga, mempelajari literatur, dan melakukan wawancara dengan pemahat gorga. Analisis data kualitatif dapat dimulai dengan reduksi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan adanya tujuh jenis simetri yang diperoleh dari semua motif gorga. Jenis-jenis simetri ini meliputi simetri translasi, simetri luncuran refleksi, simetri vertikal, simetri rotasi 180°, simetri vertikal dan rotasi 180°, simetri horizontal, dan simetri vertikal dan horizontal. Kata Kunci : Simetri, Etnomatematika, Ukiran Tradisional, Gorga, Batak Toba. / As one of the traditional ornaments of the Batak Toba tribe, "gorga" carries philosophical meaning and serves to embellish the decoration of traditional houses. The gorga motif has its own distinctive characteristics, with closely arranged patterns and symmetrical designs. This indicates the presence of mathematical aspects within these carved gorga patterns. This research aims to analyze the symmetries embedded in the gorga motifs that can be utilized as locally-based mathematics teaching material. The study is conducted by exploring various gorga motifs and analyzing their types of symmetry. The research is employing an ethnographic research approach. Data is collected through observing buildings adorned with gorga motifs, studying literature, and conducting interviews with gorga carvers. Qualitative data analysis can be started with data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions and verification. The research findings reveal the existence of seven types of symmetry obtained from all gorga motifs. These symmetry types include translation symmetry, glide reflect symmetry, vertical symmetry, rotation 180° symmetry, vertical and rotation 180° symmetry, horizontal symmetry, and vertical and horizontal symmetry.     AbstrackThis study aims to describe the analysis of characters and characterizations in the novel Trauma by Boy Candra with a behavioristic psychology which means that changes in behavior as a result of the interaction between stimulus and response. This research uses descriptive method, qualitative research form, and behavioristic psychology approach. The data source in this research is the novel Trauma by Boy Candra. The data in the study are in the form of quotations, words, phrases, and sentences. The data collection technique in this research is a documentary study. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that. 1) the author describes the main character, namely directly and indirectly. The main characters in the novel Trauma by Boy Candra are Kimara who has a friendly, vindictive, and caring character, 2) the author describes the additional characters in the novel Trauma by Boy Candra, either directly or indirectly. Mother has a caring character, Ardi Sabil has a humble character, Kori Marsandi has a bad- tempered character, Dent Sasindra has a selfish and liar character, Raditio Rahadi has a caring character, Mona has a friendly character, Grandpa has a caring character, and finally the additional character is Putra Marnanda. has a deceitful character.     Gorga is an ornament known to the Batak community. As one of the works of art that poured in the form of carvings, gorga become icons for batak society. Long before the Batak people knew formal education, they had made gorga. This is evidenced through several historical sources. Gorga not only contains the value of art but also has a mathematical element. There are many mathematical principles used in the process of making gorga. The principle of geometry transformation is very prominent in the gorga motifs. This article is an ethnomathematics research that will discuss how the thinking process in making gorga. Observations and interviews with the gorga craftsmen (pande) are conducted to find out how the principles of rotation, translation, dilation and reflection are used in making gorga motif

    Penerapan Pendekatan Differentiated Instruction dalam Peningkatan Kemampuan Penalaran Matematis Siswa SMA

    This research is based on the problem of low mathematical reasoning ability of high school students. This study aims to examine the improvement of mathematical reasoning ability among students who get Differentiated Instruction approach and conventional learning. The research design was quasi experiment with non-equivalent control group research design using Purposive Sampling technique. Instruments used include mathematical prior knowledge test, mathematical reasoning tests, observation sheets, and interview guides. Quantitative analysis was performed by using t-test and two-way anova test. The result of the research shows that (1) the improvement of student’s mathematical reasoning ability through DI learning is better than conventional learning, (2) The improvement of student’s mathematical reasoning ability through DI learning is better than the students who follow the conventional learning in terms of Mathematical Prior Knowledge.  Keywords: Differentiated Instruction, Mathematical Prior Knowledge, Mathematical Reasoning

    Penelitian ini didasarkan pada permasalahan rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan penalaran matematis siswa SMA. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengkaji peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan penalaran matematis antara siswa yang memperoleh pendekatan Differentiated Instruction dan siswa kelas konvensional. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian kelompok kontrol non-equivalent menggunakan teknik Purposive Sampling, dengan populasinya seluruh siswa SMA Pertiwi 1 Kota Padang tahun ajaran 2012/2013 dan sampel penelitiannya siswa kelas X. Instrumen yang digunakan diantaranya tes pengetahuan awal matematis siswa, tes kemampuan pemecahamn masalah dan penalaran matematis, lembar observasi, dan pedoman wawancara. Analisis kuantitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji perbedaan rerata dan uji anova dua jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, (1) Peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran DI lebih baik daripada siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional, (2) Peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran DI lebih baik daripada siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional ditinjau dari kemampuan awal matematis siswa, (3) Peningkatan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran DI lebih baik daripada siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional, (4) Peningkatan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran DI lebih baik dari pada siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional ditinjau dari kemampuan awal matematis siswa, (5) Tidak terdapat interaksi antara pembelajaran (pendekatan DI dan konvensional) dan pengetahuan awal matematis (atas dan bawah) terhadap peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, (6) Terdapat interaksi antara pembelajaran (pendekatan DI dan konvensional) dan pengetahuan awal matematis (atas dan bawah) terhadap peningkatan kemampuan penalaran matematis, (7) Terdapat korelasi yang signifikan antara kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan penalaran matematis siswa setelah pembelajaran DI.
