The solution-seeking behavior of small Hungarian enterprises between 2006 and 2010

    No full text
This paper describes the results of an investigation into the finance-related innovative ability of Hungarian micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) by using two datasets (from 2006 and 2010). The author explored SMEs’ levels of openness to new financial solutions and identified features which influence their innovative solution-seeking behavior. Additionally, changes in innovation between 2006 and 2010 were analyzed according to the SME sector and whether there is a correlation between having an active solution seeking attitude and business performance was examined. The findings show that shared/multiple ownership in businesses (having interests in different enterprises simultaneously) has a significant positive effect on flexibility and innovative ability. However, the size of the business, industrial sector, type of ownership and market of the SME also have some effect. Furthermore, the hypothesis that an active solution-seeking attitude increases after-tax performance per employee was confirmed

Interpretacijom istoimene knjige istaknut će se povijesna događanja, teorije, nova učenja i prakse koje su utjecale na promjenu u društvu te koje su stvorile novo shvaćanje čovjekaThe intention of the paper is to consider the concept of the Renaissance man that appears in the book by the Hungarian author Ágnes Heller. An analysis of twentieth-century Hungarian philosophy will expose the fundamental theories of György Lukács, his legacy within the Budapest School of Philosophy, which developed in the 1960s, and with it the development of philosophy by Ágnes Heller. Looking back on the Renaissance and humanism, the notion of the Renaissance man will stand out, which appeared in the period of history when material and spiritual culture developed in parallel, and people turned more and more towards themselves. The interpretation of the book of the same name will highlight historical events, theories, new teachings and practices that have influenced on change in society and that have created a new understanding of man

Dear Reader! The Gerontology Days 2022, International Scientific Conference focused on the possibilities and good practices against loneliness and isolation. The Conference featured a number of presentations in Hungarian and English closely related to these topics, but in keeping with our tradition, we also gave the opportunity to present the results of research from other fields of gerontology and geriatrics. In this Conference Special Issue you can read the abstracts of the presentations at the Conference, in alphabetical order by author, first in English, then in Hungarian, the scientific and scientific-popularising ones. We look forward to seeing you at the next Conference in 2023!   Ágnes Bene Editor of the Special IssueTisztelt Olvasó! Várjuk Önöket a következő Konferencián 2023-ban is!   Bene Ágnes A Különszám szerkesztőj

Being Oneself: Encountering Ágnes Heller and the Budapest School

    No full text
The Budapest School of philosophers and sociologists formed around the Hungarian philosopher Georg Lukács in the 1960s and dissipated when many of its members went into exile from Hungary in the late 1970s and early 1980s. A number went to Australia, and the last collective works of the Budapest School were produced there just as the cooperative intellectual impetus of the group dissolved. One of the Budapest School philosophers, Ágnes Heller, took up a lecturing post at La Trobe University where she supervised the PhD of the author of this paper, Peter Murphy. The paper explores Heller’s trajectory out of group philosophy into an existential view of philosophy as a “truth for me,” and Murphy’s philosophical relationship with Heller, with the idea of a school of philosophy, and with the notion of a personal philosophy

A nagy háborútól a nagy válságig : Bank- és pénztörténeti tanulmányok a két világháború közötti Magyarországról = From the Great War to the Great Depression. Studies in banking and financial history of Hungary between the two world wars

    No full text
= The volume contains the author's articles on banking and financial history over the last decade and a half. The focus is on the years 1914–1938, the long-term effects of the First World War and the deep financial and economic crises of the interwar period. After the outbreak of the Great War, inflation set in, leading to a complete devaluation of money, and the late 1920s brought the Great Depression, the severity of which is indicated by the simultaneous emergence of the external debt, fiscal, banking and currency crises. Drawing on foreign and domestic archival sources, the author analyses the antecedents, causes and consequences of this complex crisis in an international comparison. Ágnes Pogány also presents the contemporary and modern theories that have been developed to explain the Great Depression. One of the novelties of the book is the presentation of how successive financial and economic crises have been managed by governments in Hungary and elsewhere in the world, what tools have been available to mitigate the consequences of the crises, and how effective they have been. The author also examines the history and practice of the lender of last resort function, an early tool of central banks to deal with banking crises, and the author also examines the history and practice of this in Hungary, revealing the untold story of the collapse of the Hungarian General Credit Bank

Tailoring International Pronunciation Activities for Hungarian Learners of English

    No full text
Pronunciation teaching is gaining more and more recognition in international contexts, however, empirical research concerning pronunciation teaching is underrepresented in the Hungarian educational context. While there are a few studies that briefly touch upon the learners’ attitudes towards pronunciation, there is limited data concerning the ways in which pronunciation could be integrated into the Hungarian English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom. Therefore, to narrow down the gap, this paper aims to investigate how international pronunciation activities could be modified when teaching Hungarian learners specifically, and how these activities could be integrated successfully into the classroom. The case study conducted involved 13 learners, who were taught by the first author of the paper as the teacher-researcher. The timeframe of the research was 11 weeks, throughout which altogether five pronunciation activities were tailored and integrated into the lessons. The results indicate that taking only methodological considerations when deciding on what feature to teach was not sufficient for successful integration. It was concluded that the learners needed to be aware of the goals of the task, its relevance to their development, and most importantly, they had to be motivated and in turn engaged, as all the factors mentioned above are prerequisites of successful integration
