    OPEN BUILDING CONCEPT FOR FISHERMAN HOUSING ON THE NORTH COASTAL SURABAYA

    One of global warming impacts is sea levels rising. Fisherman settlements on the North coastal Surabaya  is one of built enviromment that is affected by the threat from sea levels rising. Addtionally, this settlements faces severeal environmental problems including slums and housing density. Yet, this paper is limited only discussed the influence of fish processing activity area with the minimum housing area. The aim of study provides an alternative solution to these problems and to achieve feasible and sustainable fisherman settlements.  The descriptive qualitative is used as a research method. The field survey was used to obtain data for design concept supports. Results shows the current location has still fit as fisherman settlement, then the open building concept is proposed to redesign fisherman housings.  This design concept offers two aspects, namely adaptation and flexibility. The result shows that the concept of a vertical single housing unit in which  is owened by single (one) family, which is fit with the limited area, approximately 28 square meters

    Menulis sebagai salah satu keterampilan dan penunjang kebutuhan ilmu pengetahuan yang merupakan hal vital bagi keberlangsungan hidup masyarakat. Mengacu terhadap pembelajaran di sekolah, keterampilan menulis dijadikan sebagai salah satu keterampilan yang dikaitkan dalam materi ajar bahasa Indonesia. Salah satu materi yang mengasah kemampuan menulis peserta didik yaitu materi teks eksplanasi. Pada artikel ini penulis bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tentang penerapan media audio visual dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksplanasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam pembahasan artikel ini yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pada pembahasan artikel akan disajikan tentang media pembelajaran, media audio visual, pembelajaran teks eksplanasi dan penerapan media aduio visual dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksplanasi. Adanya penelitian ini diharapkan dapat dapat membantu peserta didik untuk meningkatkan inovasi dalam menyampaikan materi ajar khususnya dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia.Kata kunci: media audio visual, pembelajaran menlis, teks eksplanasi  Writing as one of the skills and supporting the needs of science which is vital for the survival of the community. Referring to learning at school, writing skills are used as one of the skills associated with Indonesian language teaching materials. One of the materials that hone students' writing skills is explanatory text material. In this article, the author aims to describe the application of audio-visual media in learning to write explanatory texts. The method used in the discussion of this article is a qualitative descriptive method. In the discussion of the article will be presented about learning media, audio visual media, explanatory text learning and the application of audio visual media in learning to write explanatory texts.     Study of Thermal Performance of ITS Rectorate Building as Energy Efficiency Efforts towards Sustainable Living

    AbstractGlobal warming and low energy building are important issues today. Producing low energy building's is part of effort to reduce global warming. Study of the building thermal performance can be seen as a good first step, to reduce energy consumption. The ITS Rectorate building is used as a case study for low-rise institutional office buildings in the humid tropics.Simulation method was used to investigate external heat gain such as the building design configuration, openings, fabric materials, and internal heat gain which influence to thermal performance of ITS Rectorate building. Simulation experiment was supported by Ecotect v 5.5 software. Input data was obtained through field studies.The results indicates that thermal performance of third floor is the poorest because. the cooling load is higher compare to other two floor. Internal gain, ventilation gain and also fabric materials (including heat gains through roof) have contributed to cooling load on the third floor

    As the world's population is getting older, the condition of elderly experience mobility limitations, sensory impairments, and cognitive decline. There is an increasing need to address the elderly’s health and life quality. Concurrently, biophilic design has gained recognition as a promising approach to enhance human health and well-being by incorporating natural elements into the built environment. Integrating place identity and place attachment principles into the early stages of planning and construction can optimize the benefits for elderly residents. The research’s purpose is to find how the place attachment could help to improve the well-beingness of elderly. This research examines the cases of detached house with field studies and analyses it from the principle of place identity and the dimension of place attachment to make an adaptation also modifications to accommodate specific needs. The resulting concept is the use of vegetation, the dynamics of wall textures and colours, furniture, railings, and Chinese geometry for creating age-friendly and sustainable environments

    STUDI KASUS: EVALUASI DAN STRATEGI DESAIN RUMAH HUNIAN UNTUK ORANG TUA PENSIUNAN

    In Indonesia, retirement is understood as the period when workers stop working after working for a certain period of time. They experiencing a transition phase of their life as they are doing different daily routine from the productive phase before. They are experiencing changes physically and mentally. There are urgency to make good quality environment for retired elderly in their living space. House is a good choice for elderly to be aging in place as they have sense of belonging on it. Because of that, house needs to be redesigned based on how the changes experienced by the elderlies. Here, the study will evaluate a house as in Gresik as a case study for retired elderly and give design strategy proposal to make it elderly-friendly. The method used here are descriptive method which strategies are literature review, observation and interview, problem analysis, and looking forward proposal. The main problem of the house is no adequate ventilation inside, slippery floor covering, and no outdoor space to allow elderly for being active. The strategy proposed are making outdoor space at the back as laundry area and garden, make stack-effect ventilation, and change the floor covering with anti-slip and low-pile carpet material. The existence of a garden will support the positive feelings of parents and other residents.Di Indonesia, masa pensiun dipahami sebagai masa dimana pekerja berhenti bekerja setelah bekerja dalam kurun waktu tertentu. Mereka mengalami perubahan secara fisik dan mental. Terdapat urgensi untuk membuat kualitas lingkungan yang baik untuk tempat tinggal orang tua pensiunan. Rumah hunian menjadi salah satu pilihan untuk orang tua menghabiskan masa tua karena mereka telah memiliki rasa memiliki atau sense of belonging terhadap tempat tinggalnya. Oleh karena itu, rumah perlu untuk direnovasi berdasarkan perubahan yang dialami dari para orang tua. Studi ini bertujuan mengevaluasi rumah tinggal di Gresik sebagai studi kasus untuk orang tua pensiunan dan memberikan usulan strategi desain yang lebih ramah untuk orang tua. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan strategi kajian literatur, observasi dan interview, analisis permasalahan, dan usulan strategi desain. Permasalahan utama dalam rumah tinggal yang dikaji adalah kurangnya ventilasi di dalam rumah, penutup lantai yang licin, dan tidak ada ruang luar untuk orang tua agar lebih aktif. Strategi desain yang diusulkan adalah membuat ruang luar di area belakang rumah sebagai ruang cuci dan taman, membuat ventilasi stack-effect, dan mengubah penutup lantai dengan material anti-slip dan karpet low-pile. Keberadaan taman akan mendukung perasaan positif orang tua dan penghuni lainnya

    Intelligent Maintenance Aid (IMA)

    Technological complexities of current ground combat systems require advanced maintenance methods to keep the fleet in a state of operational readiness. Currently, maintenance personnel use paper Technical Manuals (TM) that are cumbersome and not easily transportable or updated in the field. This thesis proposes using the latest technology to support maintainers in the field or depot by integrating the TMs with the onboard diagnostics Built-In-Test (BIT) and Fault Isolation Test (FIT) of the vehicle, to provide the maintainer with an improved diagnostics tool to expedite troubleshooting analysis. This will be accomplished by connecting the vehicle, using the vehicle's 1553 multiplex bus, with the Graphical User Interface (GUI) of an Intelligent Maintenance Aid (IMA). The IMA will use Troubleshooting Procedure (TP) codes generated during BIT and FIT testing. Using the information provided by these TP codes, through the IMA GUI, information from the technical manuals will be displayed to aid the maintainers in their diagnostic work.
