The portrayals of fathers and daughters in Mary di Michele's poetry
ABSTRACT: In XVIIIth Century the South of Italy concentrated on the development of sea trade. Michele de Jorio author of the Codice Marittimo of 1781, which
was never applied, as member of the Supreme Magistrate of Commerce elaborated the Regolamento economico-legale per la pesca dei coralli, which was heavily practiced
in Torre del Greco. It should have disciplined the competences of the law and
the profitability of the field. It united the habits of the sea to the needs and the
innovations of the times. The jurist encouraged the creation of a local Company
with exclusive right to purchase, work and sell coral. The implementation of the
law on coral and of the Company was hindered by natural, political and military
events. In 1877 though, with the editing of the new Codice della marina mercantile, it
was pointed out that the Codice Corallino of 1790 was to be considered as a former
legitimate reference

A comparative study of form and theology in the works of Flannery O'Connor and Simone Weil
In this comparative study of the form and theology of Flannery O'Connor and Simone Weil I interrogate how Weil's philosophical writings and her theology illuminate O'Connor's use of both narrative and non-fictional forms, and her Catholicism. The Introduction analyses how Weil's concept of superposed reading provides a new method of approaching both O'Connor, her writings, and O'Connor
studies, and focuses on how such apparently different women interconnect. Chapter One explores how both Weil and O'Connor attempt to write their theologies on the
souls of their readers yet are each subject to constraints imposed by form. Weil's concept of locating equilibrium between incommensurates is discussed, and her
distinctively philosophical approach to fictions and fictionality is used to investigate O'Connor's notion of prophetic fictions and the writer's role. Chapter Two assesses how both writers revivify Christian paradoxes. Weil's monstrous concept of affiiction, and O'Connor's use of the grotesque genre to jolt secular man into an
awareness of the sacred are scrutinised. Chapter Three studies how both writers consider an encounter between God and man is possible through the action of grace. My Conclusion interrogates how Weil's work can deepen our understanding of O'Connor's writings, and examines how successful O'Connor is at realising a truly
Christian literature. I conclude that despite being a writer of powerful fictions, O'Connor can not be totally successful in her mission as writer-prophet because
ultimately fiction escapes orthodoxy

How to get rid of imaginary frequencies within ONIOM geometry optimizations: A DFT study on the effect of basis set and link atom distances in Cu-ZSM-5
Two extended clusters representing different portions of Cu-ZSM-5 were treated within a two-layer ONIOM approximation, employing DFT calculations for both the real and the model system. Despite a two-step optimization procedure successfully employed in previous work, a consistent number of imaginary and anomalous frequencies appeared after the vibrational analysis. These artefacts depend both on the basis set assigned to link atoms and on an improper setting of the O–H distances, where H are the link atoms at the boundaries of the model system. The latter problem, revealed for the first time in the present study, originates from the default scale factor employed by the ONIOM routine within Gaussian-09. Once basis set and g scale factor are properly set, all imaginary and anomalous frequencies disappear. The present findings may represent an interesting and practical solution to an annoying computational problem, whenever it occurs in the framework of ONIOM calculations
A DFT study on the mechanism of NO and N2O decomposition catalysed by Cu(I) pairs in Cu-ZSM-5: revisited reactivity at the M6 ring
By DFT calculations, a new coordination was found for a pair of Cu+ ions at the M6 ring of ZSM-5, with Al located at the T11 and T11’ positions. This coordination is 27 kcal mol−1 more stable than other structures previously reported in the literature. In the present structure, one of the Cu+ ions is tetracoordinated to the framework oxygens, whereas the other one is nearly pentacoordinated. After NO adsorption, Cu+ ions are split apart and do not show the typical reactivity of a Cu-pair. The bridged [Cu‒O‒Cu]2+ structure is 30 kcal mol−1 less stable than the structures where only one of the copper ions is oxidised. Because of the high degree of coordination of both copper ions, the adsorption energy of NO does not exceed 10–15 kcal mol−1. Two mechanisms for NO decomposition were defined for the present site, but when contributions to Gibbs free energy were accounted for, all intermediates and transition states turned out to be strongly destabilised at 773.15 K, with a consequent drop of the reaction rate. Since M6 rings and similar structures are widely represented within ZSM-5, the findings of the present work rule out many possibilities in the search of the actual active site for NO decomposition
