Davide Ferrario: director, autore
A facile stereoselective synthesis of α-glycosyl ureas
alpha-Glycosyl ureas can be synthesised directly from tetra-O-benzyl glycosyl azides and isocyanates, using a one-pot procedure that is simple and general in scope. The benzyl protecting groups are easily removed from the urea products by catalytic hydrogenation. The synthesised alpha-glycosyl ureas represent a new class of neo-glycoconjugates with the potential of being resistant towards carbohydrate processing enzymes
Analysis and Development of a Safety Relevant Component for Commercial Vehicles
The reduction of air pollution caused by transports is a current and relevant topic. In this context, the present work focused on the automotive lightweighting of commercial vehicles and buses, which currently is not widely investigated. In particular, aim of this research is to develop a technically reliable and cost effective safety component for Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) in aluminum alloy. This solution guarantees a weight saving between about 40 and 50% in comparison with the traditional welded sheet metal structure. In addition, the better corrosion resistance of the selected aluminum alloy that allows to avoid an additional protective treatment gave further environmental benefits. The project was developed with a detailed technical analysis summarized as following: a preliminary examination of the different lightweighting solutions through FEA and laboratory analysis, process features definition, design improvement, life cycle assessment analysis, prototypes production and validation. In particular, the final component was an HPDC AlSi9MnMg with dimensions of about 1260x450 mm and weight of about 15 Kg. The Life Cycle Assessment analysis demonstrated the environmental relevance of the lightweight of these components. Finally, the validation tests were successfully passed

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
