    No full text
Even though the moon has always been a common space in literary history, there has been no author to describe it as Federico García Lorca. In his moon rest ambitious semantics, which can be explained as a result of an instinctive assimilation of precedent poetry. Each segment that converges on the symbol was configured in conversation with a moon that has been building itself for centuries in the literary world. Especially after the overcoming of the classical way of thinking. Therefore, through the treatment of authors from different geographies and Movements, the strange moon of Lorca can find a solid meaning.

    No full text
This essay, “Objetivo: García Lorca. Nuevas inquisiciones cinematográficas y televisivas sobre la vida, obra y muerte del poeta”, explores several representations of Federico García Lorca in Spanish film and TV productions of recent decades. The focus on the figure of the author rather than on the adaptations of his plays favors the analysis of the representation of two, closely intertwined processes: that of literary creation-how the creative process is portrayed, and how the artist’s life is seen to intertwine with his work-and that of the cultural construction of the artist, in retrospect, as a historic figure and a cultural icon. This seems a particularly appropriate perspective in the case of García Lorca, whose fame and cultural significance owe as much to the circumstances of his life and death as they do to his plays and poems, and who in recent decades has been vindicated, reinvented, and re-introduced as an emblematic presence and a foundational myth of a contemporary, autonomous Andalucía and a democratic Spain. The article traces all those processes through recent documentaries such as Emilio Ruiz Barrachina’s Lorca, el mar deja de moverse, Magali Negroni’s F.G.L.

Lisbon 'Fado': the European Union under reform.

    No full text
To address the uncertainties surrounding the Treaty of Lisbon, this book examines several issues from various angles. Regardless of the results of the second referendum in Ireland and the pending ratifications in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, the European Union (EU) will not be the same after the Lisbon Treaty. If it comes into effect, Europeans will enter into a new stage in the deepening of the integration process; if it is rejected, the first decade of the 21st Century will represent a period of institutional stagnation in Europe’s integration. Nonetheless, the chapters in this book share the consensus that, despite its limitations, the Lisbon Treaty will make the EU decision making process more efficient, enhance regional democracy and strengthenits international voice

This article provides a comprehensive overview of the reception of the work of Federico García Lorca in Hungary since the 1940’s until today. The 22 editions of the works of this author from Granada, published between 1947-2006, and the numerous theatrical releases since 1955 until today, prove that García Lorca is still a current and genuine author for the Hungarian public. In this analysis we discuss the most important phases of the diffusion of Lorca’s work, as well as the arrival of the news of this death, the first translations (paying particular attention to the work of the translator László Nagy), the representations of the works of García Lorca on the Hungarian stage and, finally, the Hungarian investigations about the life and work of this famous poet and playwright. Despite the popularity of García Lorca in Hungary, the shortcomings of the relevant research and publications are clearly visible as well, therefore this essay will also make references to these gaps.

The Tragic Myth: Lorca and Cante Jondo

    No full text
With literature, music constituted the most important activity of poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca\u27s life. The two arts were closely related to each other throughout his career. As a child, Lorca imbibed traditional Andalusian songs from the lips of the family maids, whom he would remember with affection years later. At a very early age he began to study piano, and during his adolescence, music and poetry competed for primacy among his interests. His first book was dedicated to his music teacher, who instilled in him a love for the world of art and creation. In part I of this study, Edward F. Stanton examines Lorca\u27s theoretical and practical approach to cante jondo, the traditional music of Andalusia, as seen in his lectures on the subject and in the 1922 concurso. In part II, he searches for direct and—far more important—indirect echoes of this music in his work. Part III explores the mythic quality of Lorca\u27s art in relation to cante jondo. Throughout, Stanton illuminates a new dimension of the poet\u27s work. The author\u27s enthusiasm for his subject and the clear-cut relationship he underscores between cante jondo and Lorca\u27s verse encourage the reader to return to the Poema del cante jondo and the Romancero gitano with an increased understanding of their roots. —Journal of Spanish Studieshttps://uknowledge.uky.edu/upk_spanish_literature/1029/thumbnail.jp
