Reducing fraud: Helping one of the world’s leading internet registries to understand typosquatting and improve abuse detection

    No full text
Database and URL hijacking is a very real and damaging threat for businesses and their brands. Professor David Duce and Dr Faye Mitchell successfully partnered with Nominet, a leading internet domain registry, to help detect abuse of their WHOIS system and develop tools to better understand and deal with typosquatting. Their approach enabled improvements to Nominet’s information services and practices, whilst also influencing the wider technical community. These benefits included better policing of systems, securing brands, reducing fraud and starting to get people thinking about what can be done with data to gain insights and understanding of behaviours

    No full text

A Case-Study of Inconsistent Surface Reconstruction in Recent Literature Resulting from Octree Rotation-Variance

    No full text
We review the use of octree and PCA (Principle Component Analysis) in current literature and explore a leading piece of research, as a case study, to highlight how overlooking octree rotation-variance has resulted in inconsistent results. We provide a simple method using PCA to re-orientate an octree to the intrinsic-orientation defined by data variance. In our case-study we explore and provide a method for consistency within multi-scale CSRBFs (Compactly Supported Radial Basis Functions). By utilizing PCA we provide rotation-invariant multi-scale surface reconstructions. We show, by curvature analysis, that the original surface reconstruction method is variant to data orientation and that our approach results in rotation-invariant reconstructions. In addition we also provide a technique for more flexibility when choosing a CSRBF for use with multi-scale surface reconstruction.Theory and Practice of Computer Graphic

Towards Individualized Ageing Functions for Human Face Images

    No full text
We present an overview of work in progress to create ageing functions for the transformation of human face images. Our aims are twofold; Firstly, by extension to three dimensions, the problems of pose and lighting associated with photographs can be eliminated, and the shape changes associated with ageing modelled more accurately. Secondly, by using multi-variate statistical methods that can take individuality into account, the correlations between appearance and type of ageing can be learned and the most appropriate one automatically selected.Theory and Practice of Computer Graphic

Between 1922 and 1945 the fascist management try to approach Roma city to the Italian society by means of the architectonic way, make up the historical past and the sacralising of the Ancient Roman´s myth. Benito Mussolini, absolute promoter of the resurrection of Ancient Roman´s grandeur, was the author of one mass politic direct to consolidate the hegemony of the fascism by means of urban image that offered sequences unconnected, disort and out of reality context. In what extent the roman urban history, to catch for the fascist doctrine, and specifically, for the Duce´s thinking is debtor of the mythologic stratum will be exhibit in this pages.
