Diarrhoeal diseases among adult population in an agricultural community Hanam province, Vietnam, with high wastewater and excreta re-use
Despite the potential health risks of wastewater and excreta use as fertiliser in agriculture, it is still widespread in Vietnam. However, the importance of diarrheal risk in adults' associated with the combined exposures to both excreta and wastewater use in agriculture is largely unknown. This study was carried out to determine diarrhoeal incidence and associated risk factors among the adult population exposed to wastewater and excreta used in agriculture in Hanam province, Vietnam.; An open cohort of 867 adults, aged 16-65 years, was followed weekly for 12 months to determine the incidence of diarrhoea. A nested case-control study was used to assess the risk factors of diarrhoeal episodes. Two hundred and thirty-two pairs of cases and controls were identified and exposure information related to wastewater, human and animal excreta, personal hygiene practices, and food and water consumption was collected.; The incidence rate of reported diarrhoea was 0.28 episodes per person-years at risk. The risk factors for diarrhoeal diseases included direct contact with the Nhue River water (odds ratio [OR] = 2.4, attributable fraction [AF] 27%), local pond water (OR = 2.3, AF 14%), composting of human excreta for a duration less than 3 months (OR = 2.4, AF 51%), handling human excreta in field work (OR = 5.4, AF 7%), handling animal excreta in field work (OR = 3.3, AF 36%), lack of protective measures while working (OR = 6.9, AF 78%), never or rarely washing hands with soap (OR = 3.3, AF 51%), use of rainwater for drinking (OR = 5.4, AF 77%) and eating raw vegetables the day before (OR = 2.4, AF 12%).; Our study shows that professional exposure to wastewater and excreta during agricultural activities are significantly contributing to the risk of diarrhoea in adults. The highest attributable fractions were obtained for direct contact with Nhue River and local ponds, handling practices of human and animal excreta as fertilisers, lack of protective measures while working and poor personal hygiene practices, and unsafe food and water consumption were associated with the risk of diarrhoeal episodes in adults. Improve personal hygiene practices and use of relevant treated wastewater and excreta as the public health measures to reduce these exposures will be most effective and are urgently warranted
Impact of Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) to Local Communities and Environment in Hop Tien Commune, Dong Hy
This case-study is designed to support the development of the Viet Nam – Netherlands Water Partnership on Water for Food and Ecosystems. The partnership is between Viet Nam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Netherlands Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV). IUCN has been asked to coordinate the Partnership development process, including through undertaking study that will identify strategies for the management of water resources that balance agricultural production with the maintenance of the integrity of critical ecosystems that depend on adequate water flows. The case study is being carried out in Hop Tien commune, Dong Hy district, Thai Nguyen province, Vietnam. The purpose of the case study is to identify mechanisms based on that water resources management, which are traditionally approached as single purpose management regimes, should be enhanced to become more integrated, multi-stakeholder based management systems. At the irrigation scheme level, water resources management is considered as irrigation governance and management. The integrated approach is carried out with considerations of various interests such as irrigation, domestic water supply and fishery in Hop Tien commune. On the other hand, issues of saving water, water resources protection should be paid attention in the case study to ensure sustainable water resources development in the area
Creating A Menu & Service Concept
In recent years, the map of culinary world in the author’s hometown – Vietnam - was rare in fine-dining restaurant which serves high-quality food and service operation. Taking that into consideration, the author desires to bring a new breeze, a new concept into the restaurant section in Vietnam. Understanding the importance of being creative and innovative in changing culinary world, the author has decided to take a step in creating menu and service concept for the author’s own future business.
The main purpose of this thesis is to produce a tasting menu, service blueprint which is based on service concept terminology. Furthermore, the author also sets a goal to emphasize on how an effective menu exerts a remarkable impact on customers’ behaviours and how they automatically do the marketing for restaurants. Furthermore, this thesis paper will be also a really essential source of the author’s future business idea. It plays a key role in maintaining the author’s ideas and it functions as a firmly-made base for the author in the future.
In this thesis, the author made use of semi-structured interview with one of the head chefs in 1-star Michelin restaurant. The purpose of this semi-structured interview is to acquire useful experience, inspiration from the professional chef, to seek for solutions for the problems when planning a menu. Additionally, the author also conducted a menu tasting week to test the feasibility of the menu. Plus, observation was also executed at the same time with the project. From those development tasks, a service blueprint will be created.
The outcome of this thesis is to design a menu which can appeal and pamper the most difficult taste of modern eaters and to create a service blueprint environment in which that designed menu is used. The author has perception of great importance of a menu that can sell effectively and a service concept that can comfort customers in the dining premises, which is currently lacking in author’s homeland - Vietnam. So, this thesis outcome will support and give solutions to that issue
Parasitic Capacitance Analysis in High-Frequency Wireless Power Transfer Systems
Publisher Copyright: © 2022 IEEE.Megahertz-range wireless power transfer (WPT) system through inductive coupling has become increasingly popular during the past years. As a critical part of high-frequency WPT, parasitic components of the coils must be carefully considered because of their great impacts on the system's operation. In this paper, we propose an analytical method to deal with this problem by adding compensation capacitors on each side of the coils and calculating the appropriate value of these capacitors to attain the maximum load power and efficiency. This work is performed on the 6.78-MHz WPT system to illustrate the characteristics and enhance the robustness of the system.Peer reviewe
National Competitiveness of Vietnam: Determinants, Emerging Key Issues and Recommendations
The author presents an empirical study on Vietnam’s national competitiveness by using mixed methods research (qualitative and quantitative) with a combination of hard and soft data. The result shows that production resources (human, infrastructure, capital and natural resources) have played the most important role in improving competitiveness, productivity and living standard in Vietnam in the last two decades. The author also analyzed and evaluated the competitiveness of the Vietnamese economy, and pointed out the remaining weaknesses of competitiveness compared to the selected regional countries such as shortage of production resources supply, a dominance of inefficient state-owned enterprises and its slow reform, and weak public institutions as well as inefficient government governance. These weaknesses have led Vietnam’s competitiveness, productivity and economic growth to remain low, especially compared to China. Finally, the author attempts to provide some recommendations enhancing the competitiveness, productivity, and citizens’ living standard in Vietnam in the long term
Cool Pavement Technologies for Urban Heat Island Mitigation: A Comprehensive Review with Future Research Directions for Developing Cities
Cool pavement technologies have emerged as an effective solution to mitigate urban heat island (UHI) effects by reducing pavement surface temperatures and enhancing urban thermal comfort. This study reviews three major categories of cool pavements—reflective, evaporative, and thermal energy storage systems—based on their mechanisms, effectiveness, benefits, and limitations. Results show that reflective pavements provide the most immediate cooling performance, with temperature reductions typically ranging from 5 °C to 15 °C, depending on materials and application. In contrast, thermal energy storage systems such as hydronic pavements or thermoelectric technologies may achieve reductions of up to 20 °C. Evaporative pavements offer added value through water retention and stormwater management, although their performance is highly dependent on local climate and water availability. While these technologies offer substantial environmental and societal benefits, challenges remain in terms of long-term durability, cost, and standardization. In the context of Hanoi, Vietnam, ongoing research and pilot implementations are actively exploring light-colored asphalt, porous and water-retentive pavements, microsurfacing, and innovative materials like TiO₂-based asphalt. These initiatives reflect the growing commitment to sustainable and climate-adaptive infrastructure solutions in urban settings
Some Recommendations for Preventing Child Sexual Abuse in Viet Nam
Crime prevention is an outreach measure to stop crime before it can occur. Prevention measures vary in different countries. Child sexual abuse is an issue of growing concern in Viet Nam. Child sexual abuse can cause serious damage to cognitive, social, and emotional development of a child. Effectively combatting this serious form of violence against children requires. Vietnamese government has initiated and supported services and policies that enhance children’s development, health and safety as well as advocated for policies and programs to help meet the basic needs of children and families. In this paper, the author intends to exam the child sexual abuse situation and crime prevention in the world and Vietna
The European Union in transition to globalization
The European Union was constituted by various means of the system: politics and economics. The study of it gives the readers a deeper understanding of overall aspects. In the introduction of the thesis, the history of the EU was wrapped up and the very core scheme of it: the international economic integration.
The thesis aim was to provide an understanding of the idea of the European Union and how the union as a global economy is operating. Since this union is of utmost the biggest economic integration around the world so far, it is the closest to perfection despite it has its problems. The report discussed the global factors that affect economies and societies of the member nations of the European Union as well as some of the outside countries in relation to the EU. Undeniably the author endeavored to follow all the possible pieces of information to provide the best picture of the topic. The paper thoroughly analyzed the correlation between the size of a country and economic development. The measurements to evaluate the performance were five core indexes. Comparisons of the tax burden and gender inequality in the economy of different countries were also studied to show how these issues were global concerns to the EU.
The second part of the thesis went deeply into a discussion about globalization and the consequences of this phenomenon. The first paragraph briefly defined the nature of globalization by tracking back to human trading history. Support ideas and opposing opinions from experts on whether the world’s economy is globalized were also examined carefully. Deeply digging into the topic is the presenting of the process of globalization and the response of the EU to globalization. The purpose was to help viewers understand more about the European Union since they can approach it from many perspectives.
Globalization did generate consequences negatively and positively which is the main conversation of the next chapter. Even though the expectation of globalization is the perfect future for every human on the globe, but it is not that simple
