THE EFFECT OF N-NH3 INCLUSION ON THE DEGRADATION OF TANNIN OF SORGHUM GRAIN BY RUMEN MICROBES

No full text
Two experiments were conducted to study the effect of N-NH3 inclusion in the rumen liquor on the degradation of tannin of whole sorghum grain. The first experiment was carried out to determine the effect of N-NH3 inclusion doses in the rumen liquor on the degradation of sorghum grain tannin. The urea as a source of N-NH3 were included in rumen liquor at doses of 0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5% from the weight of whole sorghum grain (w/w). The degradation of sorghum grain tannin was increased (P<0.05) by the doses of N-NH3 inclusion, but the degradation of sorghum grain tannin began to decrease at 1.5% of N-NH3 inclusion dose. In the second experiment, the 1% of N-NH3 inclusion dose was used to evaluate the duration of fermentation in the rumen liquor. The whole sorghum grain were fermented for 12h, 24h, 48h, and 48h in the rumen liquor. The 48h of fermentation gave a highest production of total protein production. The growth of tannase producing rumen microbes could be enhanced by inclusion of N-NH3

The focus of this research is the translation analysis of colloquial expressions in the children’s storybook entitled The Secret Life of Ms Wiz by Terence Blacker. The objectives of this study are to find out the types of colloquial expression, to find out the translation techniques used by the translator to translate colloquial expression, and to know the effect of the translation techniques used on the quality of the translation in terms of accuracy and acceptability. This research used a descriptive-qualitative and quantitative method and was designed as a single-embedded case study. It used document and informant sources. Total sampling was applied to collect the data. The data were obtained by using content analysis and questionnaire. In content analysis, the researcher collected the data by selecting the dialogues among the characters containing colloquial expressions. The data found were 247 data. The form of questionnaire was a close-open ended. The questionnaire was distributed to three raters who are translation experts. The research findings from 247 data show that: (1) there are four types of colloquial exp ressions found in the children’s storybook. They are 45 data of single words, 2 data of clipped words, 191 data of contractions, and 9 data of verb-adverb combinations; (2) there are eleven translation techniques found in the children’s story book. They are adap tation (2 data), amplification (15 data), borrowing (12 data), calque (43 data), generalization (one datum), literal translation (27 data), modulation (12 data), reduction (137 data), deletion (15 data), transposition (29 data), and synonym (9 data); (3) the quality translation of colloquial expression in the children’s storybook, The Secret Life of Ms Wiz, are (a) from the accuracy point of view, there are 230 or 93.1% accurate data, 16 or 6.5% less accurate data, and one or 0.4% inaccurate datum. The average score of the mean for accuracy is 1.08 meaning that the translation is accurate; (b) from the acceptability point of view, 226 data or 91.5% are acceptable, 13 data or 5.3% are less acceptable, and 8 data or 3.2% are unacceptable. The average score of the mean for acceptability is 1.12 meaning that the translation is acceptable; (c) the most accurate technique is reduction which contributes the major data (132 data) of 230 accurate data. The least accurate technique is deletion which contributes one inaccurate datum of one inaccurate datum found; (d) the most acceptable technique is reduction which contributes the major data (135 data) of 226 acceptable data. The least acceptable technique is borrowing which contributes the major data (7 data) of 8 unacceptable data. This research can be used as an input for lecturers to give the understanding about colloquial expression to the students. This research is expected to give additional information for students, especially English Department students, about colloquial expression that can improve their knowledge. Hopefully, there will be further research of colloquial expression

Sociale duurzaamheid: meer dan een checklist

Sociale duurzaamheid is niet puur kwantitatief te meten. Het beoordelen of een gebiedsontwikkeling in sociaal opzicht is geslaagd, hangt af van je normatieve positie en de waarden die je centraal stelt. De vraag is vervolgens hoe die hebben bijgedragen aan het welzijn van de inwoners van het gebied.Practice Chair Urban Area Developmen

Entry words for Indonesian names

No full text
Catalog is a representative of document and Entry Name is one of important part of catalog. For cataloguing purpose, Indonesian librarians used the Peraturan penentuan nama-nama Indonesia (Rules for Indonesian names) published by National Scientific Documentation Centre and recognized as the Indonesian National Standard, first published in 1975 and accepted as one of the Standar Nasional Indonesia or Indonesian National Standard. However it never been revised since its acceptance as a standard although the regulation stated that any standard must be revised every five years. The other cataloguing rule is "Peraturan katalogisasi nama-nama Indonesia" [Cataloging rules for Indonesian names] published by Pusat Pembinaan Perpustakaan (Center for Library Development) in 1976, later on continued by the Indonesian National Library as Peraturan katalogisasi Indonesia (Indonesian cataloguing rules), the last edition is the 4th edition published in 1996 and also never been revised since then. Owing to the different users, usage and dissemination, the "Peraturan penentuan nama-nama Indonesia" is widely used among academic and special libraries as well as becoming the cataloguing standards at various library schools and cited by lecturers for entering Indonesian names in their bibliographies. Biomechanical signals and the C-type natriuretic peptide counteract catabolic activities induced by IL-1? in chondrocyte/agarose constructs

No full text
Introduction: The present study examined the effect of C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) on the anabolic and catabolic activities in chondrocyte/agarose constructs subjected to dynamic compression. Methods: Constructs were cultured under free-swelling conditions or subjected to dynamic compression with low (0.1 to 100 pM) or high concentrations (1 to 1,000 nM) of CNP, interleukin-1? (IL-1?), and/or KT-5823 (inhibits cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinase II (PKGII)). Anabolic and catabolic activities were assessed as follows: nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) release, and [3H]-thymidine and 35SO4 incorporation were quantified by using biochemical assays. Gene expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), aggrecan, and collagen type II were assessed with real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR). Two-way ANOVA and the post hoc Bonferroni-corrected t tests were used to examine data. Results: CNP reduced NO and PGE2 release and partially restored [3H]-thymidine and 35SO4 incorporation in constructs cultured with IL-1?. The response was dependent on the concentration of CNP, such that 100 pM increased [3H]-thymidine incorporation (P < 0.001). This is in contrast to 35SO4 incorporation, which was enhanced with 100 or 1000 nM CNP in the presence and absence of IL-1? (P < 0.001). Stimulation by both dynamic compression and CNP and/or the PKGII inhibitor further reduced NO and PGE2 release and restored [3H]-thymidine and 35SO4 incorporation. In the presence and absence of IL-1?, the magnitude of stimulation for [3H]-thymidine and 35SO4 incorporation by dynamic compression was dependent on the concentration of CNP and the response was inhibited with the PKGII inhibitor. In addition, stimulation by CNP and/or dynamic compression reduced IL-1?-induced iNOS and COX-2 expression and restored aggrecan and collagen type II expression. The catabolic response was not further influenced with the PKGII inhibitor in IL-1?-treated constructs. Conclusions: Treatment with CNP and dynamic compression increased anabolic activities and blocked catabolic effects induced by IL-1?. The anabolic response was PKGII mediated and raises important questions about the molecular mechanisms of CNP with mechanical signals in cartilage. Therapeutic agents like CNP could be administered in conjunction with controlled exercise therapy to slow the OA disease progression and to repair damaged cartilage. The findings from this research provide the potential for developing novel agents to slow the pathophysiologic mechanisms and to treat OA in the young and old. <br/
