Learning media has a contribution in increasing student activity and motivation in learning. The use of the right teaching media in learning process can arouse desire, generate motivation and stimulate new learning activities. The more intensive the learning  experience by students, the higher of the quality learning process itself. Student involvement is based on motivation and high interest from the students in participating in the learning process, and also from the teacher’s side is required to master the use of various types of media and learning strategies. For this reason, it is necessary to think about alternative learning media that are fun and appropriate for students. One of the media used in learning mathematics is a storybook based on Local Natural Resources  whose contents are close to the lives of children. Its need creative thinking and innovation to create local cultural outcomes that are packaged so that they are accepted and studied globally. Environmental preservation efforts such as raising the potential of local nature can make the younger generation have responsibility for their environment. Preservation of living natural resources by reprinting and making new natural resources can not be the thing that young people are interested in. One effort to conserve local natural resources is through learning resources in education which hopes to provide an understanding of the results of local natural resources wealth to the next generation. By introducing natural potential through learning activities by streamlining the function of storybook media in learning for children. The use of media should be a part of our attention as a means of preserving local natural potential in the world of education. Therefore, it is necessary to establish learning media that can be accepted by the current generation by revitalizing local potential in the era of globalization. The purpose of this research is to develop the local natural resources from Dukuh Samiran , Kecamatan Selo, Boyolali, Central Java,  as supporting the early counting mathematics program. The research applied was Research and Development. The subjects of this study was 20 children of Group of Kindergarten B.  Keyword : Learning  media, Mathematics,  Local Natural Resources, early countin

This paper  was conducted to produce an effective learning model for developing literacy and numeracy in early childhood. Many teachers get locked out of the process of helping their students especially young learners to read , write  and count because our education system is not allowed the young children is learned to do those activities  at school. This really should not be so.Based on Dr.Maria  Montessori  who was a pioneer in teaching reading, writing and counting for young learners, the preparation for reading and writing begins long before formal school and teachers can do that at school as well as parents at home. The ability to read, write and count is not, in itself, a sufficient ambition. What is of supreme importance is bringing about, in a child, a desire to read , write, and count. In this paper we will find Montessori Activities which are the building literacy and numeracy skills.  This activities is presented by using the well designed Montessori apparatus, reviewed and age appropriate for children.Key Word : Literacy and Numeracy, Montessori, Montessori Activities, Montessori Apparatus, Age Appropriate

No full text
Purpose – This study aims to obtain information about the effect of using the Montessori cards and counters’ mathematics activity on learning the result of odd and even numbers of 1 to 10 to the kindergarten students at the age of 4 to 5 years.Design/methods/approach – Quantitative research with a quasi-experimental model of non-equivalent control group design was carried out by applying conventional methods (lectures and giving questions by worksheets) to the control group and applying the Montessori learning model through the use of Cards and Counters apparatus in the experimental group with 30 samples of students, divided into two classes (control class and experiment class) at Kalyca Azzahra School, West Java, Indonesia.Findings – The result showed that students who used the Montessori Mathematics cards and counters achieved higher mathematics odd and even numbers are learning results than those who were not taught with the Montessori approach.Research implications/limitations – This research design used pre-test and post-test. Thus, the treatment results can be more accurate because they can be compared before and after treatment.Practical implications – The use of the Montessori apparatus becomes necessary in introducing early mathematics to children and attracting children’s attention to learn and facilitate teachers in teaching mathematics. Displaying the concrete objects as a medium will help teachers in teaching early mathematics to children. The cards and counters allow children to verify their understanding of the concept by matching the qualitative, concrete, quantitative, or abstract before slowly removing the concrete altogether.Originality/value – This research contributes to understanding learning strategies used in Early Mathematics, Odd and Even Numbers. The Montessori apparatus becomes more natural to understand it by the child’s cognitive development effortlessly. Paper type Research pape

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
