Symeon I Wielki, władca Bułgarii w przekazie Leona Diakona (Historia, VII, 7)

    No full text
Simeon in the account of Leo the Deacon (Historia, VII, 7) is an unambiguously negative figure. A bold barbarian who dared not only to raid Byzantine territories, but also to demand that the Romans proclaim him a ruler. Even his victory at the Battle of Anchialos (917) was not the result of his military prowess, but a tear in the Byzantine camp. It should be clearly emphasized that he was not the hero of the aforementioned passage of Leo the Deacon\u27s work, but Leo Phokas. The Bulgarian ruler was only a convenient tool in the hands of the Byzantine author for the purpose of showing a rather trivial truth that disagreement in one’s own camp and the desire for power lead to misfortunes, both for the individuals and for the nation. Symeon w przekazie Leona Diakona (Historia, VII, 7) to postać jednoznacznie negatywna.

The aim of this article is to provide a critical edition of “Kurtzer Entwurff, welcher Gestaldt Seine Churf. D. zu Brandenburg Unser Gnädigster Herre, die vorgenommene Gesandtschafft an den großen Vezir nacher Buda oder Offen und an den Tatarischen Chan nacher Krym, mit leichter Mühe, sicher und ohne große Unkosten abfertigen können”, a memorandum by Adam Stylis concerning the preparation of a mission to the Crimean Khanate. The document is preserved in the Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin-Dahlem, in the collection “Gesandtschafft von Tartarischen Han an S. Ch.D. zu Brandenburg im Feldlager beÿ Bestofft in Jütlandt Anno 1659”. The plan for the mission was drawn up in connection with the legation sent by Khan Mehmed IV Giray to the Elector of Brandenburg, Frederick William, and to King Frederick III of Denmark. The purpose of the Brandenburg mission to the Crimea was to secure the release of the inhabitants of Ducal Prussia who had been taken captive during the Tatar raid on that territory in October 1656. The publication of the text is preceded by a discussion of the circumstances of the source’s origin, namely the course of the legation of the Crimean envoy Meydan Ghazi Mirza and the results he achieved. Information concerning the author of the memorandum is also provided. The text has been edited in accordance with German editorial guidelines for early modern sources.Celem artykułu jest krytyczne wydanie „Kurtzer Entwurff, welcher Gestaldt Seine Churf. Plan poselstwa powstał w związku z legacją wysłaną przez chana Mewhmeda IV Gereje do elektora brandenburskiego Fryderyka Wilhelma i króla duńskiego Fryderyka III. Design of power control circuit for grid-connected PV system-based neural network

    No full text
This research explores the application of neural networks in managing grid- photovoltaic (PV) systems. this paper aims to improve the performance and reliability of PV systems using artificial intelligence capabilities, specifically neural networks. The main emphasis of this system is to control active and reactive power and to track the maximum power point (MPPT). This study introduces an intelligent control technique for fuel cell distributed generation (DG) grid connection inverters. The algorithm allows for the management of both active and reactive power for the unit. The algorithm provides local reactive power compensation, making it economically viable. The controller modeling and performance validation are conducted using MATLAB/Simulink and Sim power system blocks, demonstrating its capacity for enhancing power factor. This makes fuel cell technology a clean, highly controllable, and economically viable option for DG systems. The system maximizes the energy extraction of PV panels and maintains them at their ideal PowerPoint across various environmental conditions. It also raises the voltage from 260 volts to 350 volts. Simulations and practical evaluations validate the proposed control system. The obtained results indicate that the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the grid current under operating conditions was less than 1.86%. This demonstrates significant improvements in the efficiency and reliability of PV systems. The neural network controller shows remarkable flexibility and the ability to quickly adapt to fluctuations in load and radiation, which contributes to developing a more sustainable and stable energy network

Normoglycemia may encompass two subpopulations with respect to vascular risk in non-obese Caucasian women

    No full text
Blood was collected from 206 non-obese normoglycemic Caucasian women who were not on cholesterol modifying therapy. A series of 23 biochemical markers were assayed for each participant, and the means of each laboratory test were compared across the 2 groups. We found that the groups with higher fasting plasma glucose (FPG) had a greater proportion of subjects with high risk levels for total and LDL cholesterol. We also found a significant statistical relationship between WBC and low density lipoprotein (LDL) for younger women with higher FPG but not for any other group. Levels of FPG between 90 to 99 mg/dL is associated with an increase in LDL cholesterol and mild inflammation in non-obese Caucasian women, suggesting that FPG in the upper normal range might be associated with a small risk for atherosclerosis. This is particularly relevant for younger women with higher FPG levels.Journal ArticleFinal article publishe

Prediction of Vancomycin Dose for Recommended Trough Concentrations in Pediatric Patients With Cystic Fibrosis

    No full text
Vancomycin is a key antibiotic used in the treatment of multiple conditions including infections associated with cystic fibrosis and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The present study sought to develop a model based on empirical evidence of optimal vancomycin dose as judged by clinical observations that could accelerate the achievement of desired trough level in children with cystic fibrosis. Transformations of dose and trough were used to arrive at regression models with excellent fit for dose based on weight or age for a target trough. Results of this study indicate that the 2 proposed regression models are robust to changes in age or weight, suggesting that the daily dose on a per-kilogram basis is determined primarily by the desired trough level. The results show that to obtain a vancomycin trough level of 20 μg/mL, a dose of 80 mg/kg/day is needed. This analysis should improve the efficiency of vancomycin usage by reducing the number of titration steps, resulting in improved patient outcome and experience.Journal ArticleFinal article publishe
