Una puesta al día sobre la variación petrográfica y química del estilo cerámico Inca Pacajes

    No full text
New results concerning paste analysis of Inca Pacajes ceramic style are presented. These analyses were focused on two analytical strategies, the petrography of thin sections (N = 34) and chemical analyses by X-ray Fluorescence (N = 20). The results obtained from the incorporation of new samples and the evaluation of the modal distribution of the petrographic components by point counting allowed us to verify the fabric groups previously defined (Cremonte et al, 2015) and their elations with the local geologies. The samples analyzed come from archaeological sites in northwestern Argentina, southern Bolivia and northern Chile.  Most of the pastes are clustered in the same compositional group, characterized by the abundance of pumice stone and glass sherds, although in NOA greater differences were recorded. Petrographic and chemical variation present in Inca Pacajes pastes depending on its geographical distribution and possible production areas are discussed.

Instituto de Ecorregiones Andinas; ArgentinaThe Inca Empire annexed the modern territory of Northwest Argentina ca. 1450 AD. Inca presence manifested regionally with different intensity, highlighting that the Empire carried out different strategies when interacting with conquered populations even within the same region. Regional fluctuations in power centralization may affect the quality of life of local groups, regarding accessto food, labour, conflict, or inequality. In this paper, we analyse stable isotopes, dental, and osteological information to evaluate if the individuals that inhabited the archaeological site Esquina de Huajra (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy) experienced a deprived life quality under Inca administration.Isotopic results signal a balanced diet composed of both vegetal and animal resources, and skeletal indicators of health do not suggest a population undergoing stress.Gheggi, M. A Homozygous Mutation in LYRM7/MZM1L Associated with Early Onset Encephalopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Severe Reduction of Mitochondrial Complex III Activity

    No full text
Mutations in nuclear genes associated with defective complex III (cIII) of the mitochondrial respiratory chain are rare, having been found in only two cIII assembly factors and, as private changes in single families, three cIII structural subunits. Recently, human LYRM7/MZM1L, the ortholog of yeast MZM1, has been identified as a new assembly factor for cIII. In a baby patient with early onset, severe encephalopathy, lactic acidosis and profound, isolated cIII deficiency in skeletal muscle, we identified a disease-segregating homozygous mutation (c.73G>A) in LYRM7/MZM1L, predicting a drastic change in a highly conserved amino-acid residue (p.Asp25Asn). In a mzm1 yeast strain, the expression of a mzm1(D25N) mutant allele caused temperature-sensitive respiratory growth defect, decreased oxygen consumption, impaired maturation/stabilization of the Rieske Fe-S protein, and reduced complex III activity and amount. LYRM7/MZM1L is a novel disease gene, causing cIII-defective, early onset, severe mitochondrial encephalopathy

Pottery Production in Quebrada de La Cueva: Petrography at Pukara de La Cueva and Antiguito (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy, Argentina)

This paper presents the results of qualitative and quantitative petrographic characterization (with point counting) of 35 pastes from several vessels recovered from Pukara de La Cueva (HUM.06) and the Antiguito (ANT) site Quebrada La Cueva , Humahuaca, Jujuy, Argentina). The sample (stylistically attributed to the Regional Developments II and Inca periods) almost exclusively reflects reports the geological lithological features typical of the landscape around Pukara de La Cueva (HUM.06), where the Puncoviscana Formation is dominant. We propose that during the later occupation, pottery was primarily locally manufactured, providing limited evidence of regional interaction.Fil: Ramundo, Paola Silvia. Development from metacercaria to adult of a new species of maritrema (Digenea: Microphallidae) parasitic in the kelp gull, larus dominicanus, from the patagonian coast, Argentina

Maritrema madrynensis n. sp. is described from the Patagonian coast, Argentina, based on naturally obtained adults from the kelp gull Larus dominicanus and cultured metacercariae from the crab Cyrtograpsus altimanus. The new species fits into the "eroliae complex" and can be distinguished from other related species mainly in shape, size, and distribution of the spines on the cirrus and vitellarium in a complete ring in all specimens. Based on morphological and morphometric features of the naturally and experimentally obtained specimens and the trophic relationship between invertebrate and vertebrate hosts, we suggest that the crab C. altimanus acts as a second intermediate host of M. madrynensis n. sp. This is the first report of a Maritrema species in Patagonia and the southernmost record for the genus.Fil: Diaz, Julia Inés. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
