La struttura Tensegrity T-Bar soggetta ad instabilità globaleThe T-Bar tensegrity bar subjected to global instability
In the present work the behavior of a fundamental Tensegrity structure is analyzed: the T-Bar.
This structural typology has been already studied by one of the author. In this work a generalizations
of previous obtained results is presented due to the accounting for the global instability phenomenon
that was neglected in previous studies. The goal of the study herein presented is to establish
when the use of a T-Bar can lead to a mass saving when compared with a solid bar subjected
to the same load and having the same length
Cell-specific activity-dependent fractionation of layer 2/3→5B excitatory signaling in mouse auditory cortex

The definitive version was published in Journal of Neuroscience 35 (2015): 3112-3123, doi:10.1523/JNEUROSCI.0836-14.2015.Auditory cortex (AC) layer 5B (L5B) contains both corticocollicular neurons, a type of pyramidal-tract neuron projecting to the inferior colliculus, and corticocallosal neurons, a type of intratelencephalic neuron projecting to contralateral AC. Although it is known that these neuronal types have distinct roles in auditory processing and different response properties to sound, the synaptic and intrinsic mechanisms shaping their input–output functions remain less understood. Here, we recorded in brain slices of mouse AC from retrogradely labeled corticocollicular and neighboring corticocallosal neurons in L5B. Corticocollicular neurons had, on average, lower input resistance, greater hyperpolarization-activated current (Ih), depolarized resting membrane potential, faster action potentials, initial spike doublets, and less spike-frequency adaptation. In paired recordings between single L2/3 and labeled L5B neurons, the probabilities of connection, amplitude, latency, rise time, and decay time constant of the unitary EPSC were not different for L2/3→corticocollicular and L2/3→corticocallosal connections. However, short trains of unitary EPSCs showed no synaptic depression in L2/3→corticocollicular connections, but substantial depression in L2/3→corticocallosal connections. Synaptic potentials in L2/3→corticocollicular connections decayed faster and showed less temporal summation, consistent with increased Ih in corticocollicular neurons, whereas synaptic potentials in L2/3→corticocallosal connections showed more temporal summation. Extracellular L2/3 stimulation at two different rates resulted in spiking in L5B neurons; for corticocallosal neurons the spike rate was frequency dependent, but for corticocollicular neurons it was not. Together, these findings identify cell-specific intrinsic and synaptic mechanisms that divide intracortical synaptic excitation from L2/3 to L5B into two functionally distinct pathways with different input–output functions. This work was supported by National Institutes of Health grants DC013272 (T.T. and G.M.G.S.), DC007905 (T.T.), NS061963 (G.M.G.S), R03DC012585 (J.W.M.), T32DC011499 (C.T.A.), and F32DC013734 (C.T.A), and by the Albert and Ellen Grass Faculty Award (T.T. and G.M.G.S.) and Charles Evans Foundation Award (T.T. and G.M.G.S.).2015-08-1

WikiPathways: Building research communities on biological pathways
Here, we describe the development of WikiPathways http://www.wikipathways.org, a public wiki for pathway curation, since it was first published in 2008. New features are discussed, as well as developments in the community of contributors. New features include a zoomable pathway viewer, support for pathway ontology annotations, the ability to mark pathways as private for a limited time and the availability of stable hyperlinks to pathways and the elements therein. WikiPathways content is freely available in a variety of formats such as the BioPAX standard, and the content is increasingly adopted by external databases and tools, including Wikipedia. A recent development is the use of WikiPathways as a staging ground for centrally curated databases such as Reactome. WikiPathways is seeing steady growth in the number of users, page views and edits for each pathway. To assess whether the community curation experiment can be considered successful, here we analyze the relation between use and contribution, which gives results in line with other wiki projects. The novel use of pathway pages as supplementary material to publications, as well as the addition of tailored content for research domains, is expected to stimulate growth further. © The Author(s) 2011. Hippotherapy's Influence In Static Balance In A Subject With Charcot-marie-tooth Disease [influência Da Hipoterapia No Equilíbrio Estático Em Um Indivíduo Com Doença De Charcot-marie-tooth]
Objective. Verify hippotherapy's influence in static balance in a subject with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT). Method. It was done a study of case, with one subject with Charcot-Marie-Tooth, female gender, 12 years old. The subject was filmed in anterior view (frontal view) and profile (saggital view). The instrument used was Computerized Biophotogrammetry which served as angular reference to verify body's oscillations in the static balance. The hippotherapy was done during 16 sessions, twice a week, for 2 months, using the hippotherapy program and equestrian activities. Results. The oscillations's degrees evaluated after the hippotherapy intervention showed decrease both in frontal and saggital views. Conclusion. This study showed that with the hippotherapy intervention this subject with Charcot-Marie-Tooth showed improvement in her static balance.203422426Ekman, L.L., Neurociência: Fundamentos Para a Reabilitação (2000), p. 477. , Rio de Janeiro: KooganTeixeira, E., Sauron, F.N., Santos, L.S.B., Oliveira, M.C., Terapia Ocupacional: Na Reabilitação Física (2003), p. 571. , São Paulo: RocaPires, C.A., Borghetti, V.H.S., Zaffari, A., Giacomini, F.L., Grutzmacher, E.L., Ferrabone, J.L.G., Doença de Charcot-Marie-Tooth (1998) Rev Méd Hosp, 10 (22), pp. 79-81Davies, P.M., Passos a Seguir: Um Manual Para O Tratamento Da Hemiplegia No Adulto (1996), p. 314. , São Paulo: ManoleFreitas, M.R.G., Osvaldo, J.M.N., Freitas, G.R., Doença de Charcot-Marie-Tooth (1995) Rev Bras Neurol, 31, pp. 11-21Silva, D.L., Neto, F.X.P., Nunes, C.T.A., Matos, L.T.M.B., Pacheco, A., Aspectos Clínicos Otorrinolaringológicos da Doença de Charcot-Marie-Tooth (2007) Arq. Bioinformatics for the NuGO proof of principle study: analysis of gene expression in muscle of ApoE3*Leiden mice on a high-fat diet using PathVisio
Insulin resistance is a characteristic of type-2 diabetes and its development is associated with an increased fat consumption. Muscle is one of the tissues that becomes insulin resistant after high fat (HF) feeding. The aim of the present study is to identify processes involved in the development of HF-induced insulin resistance in muscle of ApOE3*Leiden mice by using microarrays. These mice are known to become insulin resistant on a HF diet. Differential gene expression was measured in muscle using the Affymetrix mouse plus 2.0 array. To get more insight in the processes, affected pathway analysis was performed with a new tool, PathVisio. PathVisio is a pathway editor customized with plug-ins (1) to visualize microarray data on pathways and (2) to perform statistical analysis to select pathways of interest. The present study demonstrated that with pathway analysis, using PathVisio, a large variety of processes can be investigated. The significantly regulated genes in muscle of ApOE3*Leiden mice after 12 weeks of HF feeding were involved in several biological pathways including fatty acid beta oxidation, fatty acid biosynthesis, insulin signaling, oxidative stress and inflammation. © 2008 The Author(s)
Thallium isotopes in early diagenetic pyrite – a paleoredox proxy?
Author Posting. © The Author(s), 2011. This is the author's version of the work. It is posted here by permission of Elsevier B.V. for personal use, not for redistribution. The definitive version was published in Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta 75 (2011): 6690-6704, doi:10.1016/j.gca.2011.07.047.This paper presents the first study of Tl isotopes in early diagenetic pyrite. Measurements from two sections deposited during the Toarcian Ocean Anoxic Event (T-OAE, ~183Ma) are compared with data from Late Neogene (<10Ma) pyrite samples from ODP legs 165 and 167 that were deposited in relatively oxic marine environments. The Tl isotope compositions of Late Neogene pyrites are all significantly heavier than seawater, which most likely indicates that Tl in diagenetic pyrite is partially sourced from ferromanganese oxy-hydroxides that are known to display relatively heavy Tl isotope signatures. One of the T-OAE sections from Peniche in Portugal displays pyrite thallium isotope compositions indistinguishable from Late Neogene samples, whereas samples from Yorkshire in the UK are depleted in the heavy isotope of Tl. These lighter compositions are best explained by the lack of ferromanganese precipitation at the sediment–water interface due the sulphidic (euxinic) conditions thought to be prevalent in the Cleveland Basin where the Yorkshire section was deposited. The heavier signatures in the Peniche samples appear to result from an oxic water column that enabled precipitation of ferromanganese oxy-hydroxides at the sediment–water interface.
The Tl isotope profile from Yorkshire is also compared with previously published molybdenum isotope ratios determined on the same sedimentary succession. There is a suggestion of an anti-correlation between these two isotope systems, which is consistent with the expected isotope shifts that occur in seawater when marine oxic (ferromanganese minerals) fluxes fluctuate.
The results outlined here represent the first evidence that Tl isotopes in early diagenetic pyrite have potential to reveal variations in past ocean oxygenation on a local scale and potentially also for global oceans. However, much more information about Tl isotopes in different marine environments, especially in anoxic/euxinic basins, is needed before Tl isotopes can be confidently utilized as a paleo-redox tracer.SGN is funded by a NERC fellowship
HE-LHC: The High-Energy Large Hadron Collider
S.1109-1382In response to the 2013 Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics (EPPSU), the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study was launched as a world-wide international collaboration hosted by CERN. The FCC study covered an energy-frontier hadron collider (FCC-hh), a highest-luminosity high-energy lepton collider (FCC-ee), the corresponding 100 km tunnel infrastructure, as well as the physics opportunities of these two colliders, and a high-energy LHC, based on FCC-hh technology. This document constitutes the third volume of the FCC Conceptual Design Report, devoted to the hadron collider FCC-hh. It summarizes the FCC-hh physics discovery opportunities, presents the FCC-hh accelerator design, performance reach, and staged operation plan, discusses the underlying technologies, the civil engineering and technical infrastructure, and also sketches a possible implementation. Combining ingredients from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the high-luminosity LHC upgrade and add ing novel technologies and approaches, the FCC-hh design aims at significantly extending the energy frontier to 100 TeV. Its unprecedented centre-of-mass collision energy will make the FCC-hh a unique instrument to explore physics beyond the Standard Model, offering great direct sensitivity to new physics and discoveries. © 2019, The Author(s).228Nr.
Toward interoperable bioscience data

The definitive version was published in Nature Genetics 44 (2012): 121-126, doi:10.1038/ng.1054.To make full use of research data, the bioscience community needs to adopt technologies and reward mechanisms that support interoperability and promote the growth of an open 'data commoning' culture. Here we describe the prerequisites for data commoning and present an established and growing ecosystem of solutions using the shared 'Investigation-Study-Assay' framework to support that vision. The authors also acknowledge

DISTRICT AGRICULTURIST REPORT
Pruning Woody Ornamentals: Pruning can be
done for several different reasons: 1. To
train the plant in the desired shape.
This is of particular importance when dealing
with young trees which have a portent-ially
long life span (fruit trees will
serve their objectives much better when
trained early and properly). 2. To prevent
plants from becoming over crowded. It is
not advisable to drastically try to change
the natural shape of trees and shrubs. But
through branch removal, usually from the,
inside of the structure plants will remain
healthier and become a greater asset in
the landscape. 3. To increase the blooming
quality of plants as well as the fruit
production. For plants whose mam purpose
is the display of foliage, pruning can
stimulate new leaf grow’th. 4. To remove
all dead and deceased wood.
Pruning is primarily carried out while
the plants are dormant, although there are
some exceptions to this rule. In Alberta
the most opportune time zor pruning is
the month of April. However, the pruning
of evergreens such as spruce and pine is
done on the newly developing sprouts during
the month of‘June. Early spring .flowering
shrubs can be pruned immediately
after the blossoms disappear. This
practice will avoid the removal of flower
buds. Never prune in the late summer or
earlv fall. This activity could stimulate
the. plant to develop new growth which will
not harden off. ,
Another basic consideration in pruning
is that this activity should be done
from the early stages of development of
the plant. Pruning should be in moderation
and repeated often. The use of the
wound dressing is recommended to cover
large pruning wounds. _ _
