No full textRubem Fonseca is considered a key author in the introduction of crime fiction in Brazil. This article reviews his contribution to the genre and analyzes the specifics of his narrative in the context of Brazilian literature, in which Fonseca breaks from and exceeds the traditional dichotomies between high and popular literature. Fonseca becomes part of the distinct tradition of crime fiction, which he reinterprets differently in his short stories by giving voice to the marginalized, and in his novels by incorporating elements of hardboiled, noir fiction, and even whodunit. The character of Mandrake is situated in a context that increasingly includes paraliterary concerns

The Integration of European Stock Markets and Market Timing
Get PDFIn this research, a European index and a world index were used to test the integration of the national stock markets of fourteen EU countries into the world stock market. A market timing procedure was used to detect differences of performance between the national indexes. The main conclusions drawn are that the European factor is important in explaining the returns of all the national indexes, but the world portfolio seems unnecessary in the cases of nine countries whose stock markets are embedded in the global European stock market. Differences of performance were also detected: the market timing effect being particularly evident in relation to the European market portfolio. Non-participation in the single currency does not seem to have a perceptible influence on the results.

Get PDFThe objective of this research was to verify the veracity of the information that the use of pesticides -brought about by the Green Revolution -is necessary to eliminate hunger on the planet and if the green revolution is in harmony with the Principle of Prohibition of Environmental Retraction. The methodology used was that of the deductive method: the means was used for the bibliographic research and for the purposes, the research was qualitative. The conclusion reached was that the use of agrochemicals in an indiscriminate manner has brought innumerable damages to the environment, causing environmental imbalance and the appearance ofinnumerable ills to the beings that inhabit the planet earth; so the green revolution, as conceived in Brazil, is at odds with the Principle of Prohibition of Environmental Retraction.O objetivo desta pesquisa foi o de verificar a veracidade da informação de que o uso de agrotóxicos – trazido pela Revolução Verde - é necessário para eliminar a fome no planeta e se a revolução verde está em harmonia com o Princípio da Proibição de Retrocesso Ambiental. A metodologia utilizada foi a do método dedutivo: quanto aos meios utilizou-se da pesquisa bibliográfica e quanto aos fins, a pesquisa foi qualitativa. A conclusão a que se chegou foi a de que o uso de agrotóxicos, de forma indiscriminada tem trazido inúmeros prejuízos ao meio ambiente, causando desequilíbrio ambiental e o surgimento de inúmeras mazelas aos seres que habitam o planeta terra; dessa forma, a revolução verde, da forma como está concebida no Brasil, está em desacordo com o Princípio da proibição de Retrocesso Ambiental
