meresahkan), (4) merging realms (penggabungan dua dunia/wilayah) dan (5)
Disruption of time, space, and identity (gangguan waktu, ruang, dan identitas).

fenomenal).

Media criticism in academia has long been riven by a notorious and enduring opposition between two approaches: political economy of communications and cultural studies. The hypothesis the author presents here, based on study of the limitations of the main attempts to integrate the two approaches, is that the point of contact between the two will also need to address the strategic issues raised by the neoliberalization and commodification of academia
From “Diversity” to “Discoverability”
International audienceBased on an analysis of the scholarly literature as well as official reports commissioned by national and supranational institutions, this chapter critically examines the current semantic shifts from “Diversity” to “Discoverability” in the French-speaking world’s cultural policies. First, a genealogy of the emergence of “Diversity” shows how this notion ultimately tamed earlier critical themes such as Cultural Exceptionalism. Second, an examination of the different theoretical tools developed in order to measure diversity reveals how this notion maintains an ideal of democracy against standardization (although not always explicitly). Third, the analysis of the recent mutations in cultural policies (with the pregnancy of notions such as “consumed diversity” and “discoverability”) is linked to the rise of cultural platforms and their recommendation algorithms. Finally, a fourth part critically addresses the limits and internal theoretical and political contradictions of the propositions for cultural policy to which the category of “Discoverability” has given rise so far, especially the abandoning of issues of standardization
Manual Labour, Intellectual Labour and Digital (Academic) Labour. The Practice/Theory Debate in the Digital Humanities
Although it hasn’t much been considered as such, the Digital Humanities movements (or at least the most theoretically informed parts of it) offers a critique “from within” of the recent mutation of the higher education and research systems. This paper offers an analysis, from a Critical Theory perspective, of a key element of this critique: the theory vs. practice debate, which, in the Digital Humanities, is translated into the famous “hack” versus “yack” motto, where DHers usually call for the pre-eminence of the former over the latter. I show how this debate aims to criticize the social situation of employment in academia in the digital age and can further be interpreted with the Cultural industry theoretical concept, as a continuance of the domination of the intellectual labour (ie. yack in this case) over the manual labour (hack). Nevertheless, I argue that, pushing this debate to its very dialectical limit in the post-industrial academic labour situation, one realizes that the two terms aren’t in opposition anymore: the actual theory as well as the actual practice are below their very critical concepts in the academic labour. Therefore, I call for a reconfiguration of this debate, aiming at the rediscovering of an actual theory in the academic production, as well as a rediscovering of a praxis, the latter being outside of the scientific realm and rules: it is political
Media criticism in academia has long been riven by a notorious and enduring opposition between two approaches: political economy of communications and cultural studies.
» Max Horkheimer, « L’État autoritaire » in Théorie critique.
