A new approach to the discrete logarithm problem with auxiliary inputs
The aim of the discrete logarithm problem with auxiliary inputs is to solve for alpha, given the elements g, g(alpha), . . . , g(alpha d) of a cyclic group G = < g >, of prime order p. The best-known algorithm, proposed by Cheon in 2006, solves for a in the case where d vertical bar (p +/- 1), with a running time of O(root p/d+d(i)) group exponentiations (i = 1 or 1/2 depending on the sign). There have been several attempts to generalize this algorithm to the case of Phi(k)(p) where k >= 3. However, it has been shown by Kim, Cheon and Lee that a better complexity cannot be achieved than that of the usual square root algorithms. We propose a new algorithm for solving the DLPwAI. We show that this algorithm has a running time of (O) over tilde(root p/tau(f) + d) group exponentiations, where tau(f) is the number of absolutely irreducible factors of f (x) - f (y). We note that this number is always smaller than (O) over tilde (p(1/2)). In addition, we present an analysis of a non-uniform birthday problem.Y

Miniature transparent UWB antenna with tunable notch for green wireless applications
Copyright @ 2011 IEEEA miniature transparent UWB antenna with tunable notch that can be incorporated with a solar panel for harnessing solar energy has been proposed and presented. The antenna demonstrates a good omni-directional
radiation pattern throughout the FCC bandwidth of 3.1 – 10.6 GHz and a comparable gain making it a good candidate for future green wireless applications

Searching for neutrinoless double beta decay with the AMoRE experiments
Searches for the neutrinoless double beta decay (0νDBD) have been pursued for decades by many researchers since it is a viable channel to probe the lepton number violating process and unveil some unknown properties of neutrino. The AMoRE experiments have been searching for 0νDBD of 100Mo isotope using molybdate crystal scintillators. The experiments used the molybdate crystals as the absorber for the cryogenic calorimeter, which measures the energetic phonons and scintillation lights from the particle interaction in the crystal absorber. The experiments have been scheduled as several phases of AMoRE-pilot, AMoRE-I and AMoRE-II with the significant increase in the absorber mass and reduction of the background level for each upgrade. Currently, we are running AMoRE-I experiment, which uses 6.2 kg of molybdate crystal absorbers, and preparing for AMoRE-II experiment, which will exploit 100 kg of 100Mo isotopes, ultimately. The overall status of the AMoRE experiments is presented in the paper
Manipulation of the active site loops of D-hydantoinase, a (beta/alpha)(8)-barrel protein, for modulation of the substrate specificity
We previously proposed that the stereochemistry gate loops (SGLs) constituting the substrate binding pocket Of D-hydantoinase, a (beta/alpha)(8)-barrel enzyme, might be major structural determinants of the substrate specificity [Cheon, Y. H., et al. (2002) Biochemistry 41, 9410-9417]. To construct a mutant D-hydantoinase with favorable substrate specificity for the synthesis of commercially important nonnatural amino acids, the SGL loops of the enzyme were rationally manipulated on the basis of the structural analysis and sequence alignment of three hydantoinases with distinct substrate specificities. In the SGLs Of D-hydantoinase from Bacillus stearothermophilus SDI, mutations of hydrophobic and bulky residues Met 63, Leu 65, Phe 152, and Phe 159, which interact with the exocyclic substituent of the substrate, induced remarkable changes in the substrate specificities. In particular, the substrate specificity of mutant F159A toward aromatic substrate hydroxyphenylhydantoin (HPH) was enhanced by similar to200-fold compared with that of the wild-type enzyme. Saturation mutagenesis at position 159 revealed that k(cat) for aromatic substrates increased gradually as the size of the amino acid side chain decreased, and this seems to be due to reduced steric hindrance between the bulky exocyclic group of the substrate and the amino acid side chains. When site-directed random mutagenesis of residues 63 and 65 was conducted with the wild type and mutant F159A, the selected enzymes (M63F/L65V and L65F/FI59A) exhibited similar to10-fold higher k(cat) values for HPH than the wild-type counterpart, which is likely to result from reorganization of the active site for efficient turnover. These results indicate that the amino acid residues of SGLs forming the substrate binding pocket are critical for the substrate specificity Of D-hydantoinase, and the results also imply that substrate specificities of cyclic amidohydrolase family enzymes can be modulated by rational design of these SGLs
