New approaches to asymmetric nucleophilic catalysis and the development of redox-neutral reaction cascades
A new concept for nucleophilic catalysis has been developed and this strategy was successfully applied to the kinetic resolution of benzylic amines and propargylic
amines. The first catalytic enantioselective desymmetrization of meso-1,2-diarylaminoethanes has been introduced. A combination of nucleophilic catalyst
DMAP and hydrogen bonding catalyst afforded the monoacylated products in good yields and good to excellent enantioselectivity. A catalytic enantioselective Steglich rearrangement reaction has also been developed using our dual catalytic approach for
nucleophilic catalysis. A novel catalytic enantioselective transformation between azlactones and isoquinolines has been developed. To the best of our knowledge, this
type of functionalization of isoquinolines with azlactones is unprecedented. A redox neutral reaction cascade that involves the functionalization of the relatively
unactivated C–H bond α to the nitrogen of cyclic amines has been developed. This transformation represents a fast route to synthetically useful aminal building blocks.
A mechanistically unique 2,3-annulation of indole based on the tert-amino effect 1,5-hydride shift/ring closure sequence has been shown. This redox-neutral C–H functionalization leads to a new class of ring fused indolobenzazepines and features short reaction times. Apart from indole, the substrate scope includes pyrroles and 1,2-diarylhydrazines.Ph. D.Includes bibliographical referencesby Chandra Kanta D
Kanta-Hämeen asiakastallien turvallisuus
Tämän opinnäytetyön aiheena on Kanta-Hämeen asiakastallien turvallisuus.
The subject for this thesis is safety of riding stables with customers in Kanta-Häme area. From the fire department`s standpoint the stable buildings in the area are quite old and contain many risk factors
Pure threshold strategies for a two-node tandem network under partial information
In a two node tandem network, customers decide to join or balk by maximizing a given profit function whose costs are proportional to the sojourn time they spend at each queue. Assuming that their choicesare taken without knowing the complete state of the system, we show that a pure threshold equilibrium policy exists. In particular we analyze the case when the partial information consists in informing the arrival customers of the total number of users in the network. The research of the first author is partially supported by the

Business and Politics in India
Overview Description Table of Contents Author InformationCoverBusiness and Politics in IndiaEdited by Christophe Jaffrelot, Edited by Atul Kohli, and Edited by Kanta MuraliModern South AsiaDescriptionOver the last few decades, politics in India has moved steadily in a pro-business direction. This shift has important implications for both government and citizens. In Business and Politics in India, leading scholars of Indian politics have gathered to offer an analytical synthesis of this vast topic. Collectively, they cover the many strategies that businesses have used to exert their newfound power in recent times and organize the book around a few central concerns. They first analyze the nature of business power and how it shapes political change in India. Second, they look at the consequences of business' growing power on some important issue areas-labor, land, urban governance, and the media. Finally, they take account of regional variation and analyze state-business relations. This definitive account offers significant insights into how and why corporations have increased their power in contemporary Indian politics
Dietary fat intake during pre- and post-weaning time period and its association with the onset of cardiovascular diseas in the offspring
The 'fetal origins' of cardiovascular disease (CVD) hypothesis proposes that maternal nutritional environment during pregnancy can play an important role in determining the cardiovascular health of an individual in adult life. A typical Western diet is rich in dietary fats, a fact that has been linked to the increased prevalence of CVD. In addition to the quantity of fat, the quality of fat is also known to affect the development of CVD. Whilst an increased consumption of saturated fatty acids (SFA) has been associated with higher incidence of CVD, a diet rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) has been suggested to lower the risk of developing CVD. Considering that nutrition patterns are shifting towards a higher-fat Western diet globally, it is of interest to understand the role of a high-fat maternal diet in the fetal origins of CVD. The current thesis was designed to understand the role of the quantity, as well as the quality, of maternal dietary fat intake during pregnancy, in the fetal origins of CVD in the adult offspring. In addition, the role of interaction between the pre- and post-natal dietary fat intake on the offspring health was assessed. Early programming experiments were conducted using C57B1/6 mice, which have been extensively used as an animal model to investigate the dietary fat-mediated regulation of lipid metabolism. Lipid metabolism and aortic vascular function were chosen as the study outcomes to estimate the risk of developing CVD in the offspring. Results indicated that a high-fat maternal diet rich in SFA (lard) was associated with a reduced expression of hepatic low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-receptor and a higher concentration of LDL-cholesterol in the offspring. On the other hand, a high-fat maternal diet rich n-6 PUFA (safflower oil) was associated with higher mRNA expression of hepatic lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase and higher concentration of high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol in the offspring. The high-fat maternal diet, irrespective of the type of fat, however was associated with reduced aortic contractile reactivity towards KC1, phenylephrine and thromboxane mimetic U44619, in the female offspring. In addition, significant interaction of pre- and post-weaning diets was reported for various outcomes studied in the offspring, suggesting the importance of both prenatal and postnatal environments in regulating the offspring cardiovascular health. -- In a separate study, the effects of n-3 PUFA-rich flax oil feeding were assessed on various parameters associated with metabolic syndrome, using the SHR/NDmcr-cp rat model. Flax oil feeding was associated with significantly lower hepatic triglycerides and cholesterol concentrations in the obese rats. In addition, flax oil feeding was associated with lower plasma insulin concentrations and oxidative stress in the obese rats. An up regulation in the hepatic expression of peroxisome-proliferator activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) was found to be negatively correlated with the hepatic TG and cholesterol concentrations in the obese rats, thus pointing towards the activation of PPAR-γ dependent pathways behind the hepatic lipid-lowering effects of flax oil supplementation. -- Taken together, the results presented in the current thesis support the role for the quantity and the quality, of dietary fats consumed during pre- and post-weaning time periods, on the development of key parameters associated with the onset of CVD.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 202-257). -- Transcript

Pojęcie przesądu w filozofii krytycznej Kanta i fenomenologii Husserla
this article examines the concept of prejudice (Vorurteil) in Kant’s and Husserl’s theories. According to Kant, prejudices must be distinguished from provisional judgments that may be called anticipations or maxims for all inquiry. We form a provisional judgment (vorläufiges Urteil) of a thing before we recognize it with definitive judgment (bestimmendes Urteil). Prejudices, by contrast, are provisional judgments (or opinions) wrongly taken as definitive judgments, namely judgments which are adopted as principles without research of the conditions of their truth. Thus, Kant’s notion of prejudice has the negative connotations and the aim of the critical philosophy is to overcome all prejudices. In contrast to Kant, Husserl makes distinction between positive and negative prejudices: positive prejudice is understood as a pre-judgment (Vor-Urteil) in the form of presumptive pre-knowledge (Vorwissen) and corresponds to Kant’s concept of anticipation belonging to provisional judgment, while objectivistic (naturalistic) naïveté appears to be negative prejudice. The aim of phenomenology is to suspend all prejudices and this suspension makes it possible to research of their origins. In the article author shows that Husserl’s conception of prejudice as a pre-judgment is similar to Gadamer’s rehabilitation of prejudice as a pre-understanding. Therefore, it is possible to indicate similarities between Kant’s concept of provisional judgment, Husserl’s idea of pre-knowledge and Gadamer’s conception of pre-understanding.W artykule poddano badaniu pojęcie przesądu w teoriach Kanta i Husserla.
The author recalls Immanuel Kant’s and Johann Gottfried Herder’s contributions to the development of philosophical anthropology. The former was the author of the famous ‘four questions’ which defined the subject and rank of a new philosophical discipline studying which studied. Herder, in turn, with his conception of man as Mängelwesen, contributed initiating of a close cooperation between philosophy and natural sciences. Kant’s and Herder’s significance for philosophical anthropology is not only historical. It seems that some of the ideas they developed (man in the horizon of metaphysics, humankind as a space of possibilities) could be used in order to systematise the contemporary discussion about man.Artykuł przypomina udział Immanuela Kanta i Johanna Gottfrieda Herdera w rozwoju antropologii filozoficznej.
Documentary Film Creation “Impact of Kanta River Water Pollution on Conditions Social Economic Citizens Around The Estuary of Drainage”
The Kanta River flows in Pujon District and Ngantang District. This river water is used for irrigation, livestock sanitation, and the main source of water for hydropower plants and tourist water sources of the Selorejo Reservoir. The high role of this river water is apparently not realized so that residents use the Sunga Kanta watershed as a place to dispose of garbage and sewage. The current water condition of the Kanta River is quite poor and the settlement around the Selorejo Reservoir as a drainage estuary is the most affected area. The author responds to this water pollution problem in a film with the title "The Impact of Canta River Water Pollution on the Socioeconomic Conditions of Residents Around the Drainage Estuary". The documentary genre is an option because according to the character of this film, which presents facts according to reality, it is actually considered capable of accommodating the message of the film. The film narrative is prepared based on research data that has been analyzed descriptively and obtained by three data collection methods which include observation, literature study, and interviews. Films are shown publicly so that the message of the film can be widely accepted by citizens. In the end, this documentary is expected to be able to give birth to awareness to jointly maintain the water ecosystem, especially rivers
