THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION: ALGORITHMIC GOVERNMENTALITY AND WORKERS' RIGHTS
Platforms promise the disintermediation and self-determination of the individual, but at the same time they prove capable of exercising widespread social control, which af- fects every aspect of life: from education, consumption, health, the sentimental and sexual life of subjects, to the world of work.
The latter is the subject of a particularly meticulous analysis by Pisani, who high- lights how the model of algorithmic governmentality proves suitable for interpreting platform-mediated work: work in the times of the on-demand econom
Becoming Michelle – From the South Side Chicago to the White House
Mythological representations have always symbolically embodied human beings’ ancestral fears and wishes. Yet today the reading of the languages of new myths can convey the key to an understanding of the historical period we are living in. Nowadays one of the most popular cultural icons is Michelle Obama. First Afro-American FLOTUS, Michelle is still serving as a highly influential role-model, whose recently published autobiography, Becoming, is a record best-selling book. By drawing on the theoretical approach of Appraisal Framework (Martin and White 2007), I intend to investigate how her ‘becoming Michelle’ was accomplished. The AF explores the way language is used to evaluate and/or adopt stances and to construe textual personas, and how affective involvement can be conveyed through a set of indicators. Accordingly, qualitative examples are analysed to show how, in Michelle’s autobiography, the lexico-grammar options are significant in the process of the shaping of her status of a modern cultural icon
Structure and expression of a novel gene family showing male germline specific expression in Drosophila melanogaster.
We report the characterization of two novel genes of Drosophila melanogaster, named mst36Fa and mst36Fb. They define a novel gene family, showing identical time and tissue-specificity limited to male germ cells where their transcription starts during meiotic prophase. These two genes encode for two slightly basic proteins highly homologous to each other and fairly rich in leucine and glutamic acid. Although strictly clustered, these genes utilize different promoter regions as revealed by examination of transgenic flies bearing mst36F-promoter-lacZ reporter constructs and by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction assays. Our data suggest that at least one gene (mst36Fa) of the cluster is under translational repression until spermiogenesis suggesting a putative role in the spermatides differentiation. The present study is aimed at the structural analysis of these genes

Ionizing radiations in pregnancy and teratogenesis: a review of literature.
The present paper is a review of the data available in the literature concerning the prenatal exposure to radiation evaluating the reported teratogenic effect. We have particularly focused on the fetal effects of maternal ionising radiation exposure, both diagnostic and occupational, particularly in terms of congenital anomalies and birth weight. Ionising radiation represents a possible teratogen for the fetus, but this risk has been found to be dependent on the dosage and the effects correlatable to the gestational age at exposure. Recently, of particularly note is the fact that maternal thyroid exposure to diagnostic radiation has been associated with a slight reduction in the birth weight. Inadvertent exposure from diagnostic procedures in pregnancy doesn't usually increase the natural risk of congenital anomalies but creates a considerable state of maternal anxiety. Diagnostic radiological procedures should be avoided in pregnant women unless the information cannot be obtained by other techniques
Midaynta iyo Horumarinta Af-soomaaliga
Qoraagu wuxuu maqaalkan ku falanqaynayaa arrimo ku saabsan midaynta af Soomaaliga qoran, oo dadka qaarkood ay ku doodaan in ay dhibaato ka taagantahay, iyagoo u aanaynaya kala duwanaanta lahjadaha Soomaaliyeed iyo farta af Soomaaliga oo aan xasillayn. The author in this article, in analysing the written somali language, wants to show the somali standard situation is not so bad, like some Somalis say, especially in orthography and in vernaculars difference. In spite of, the somali language problem is recognisable in some others factors: lack of state that usually chooses somali language as official language, extinction of many terms in disuse and also the strong influence of English.

'As previous researchers have found...’ dialogic endorsement in social psychology research articles
The present study lies in the research domains of APPRAISAL FRAMEWORK (AF) (Iedema, Feez, and White 1994, Martin 1997, White 1998, Martin 2001), which provides a set of tools for the analysis of ENDORSEMENT, with its variety and gradation of possibilities, from the simple binomial endorsement /dis-endorsment, up to the cline of extra versus intra vocalisation. In RAs ENDORSEMENT is a significant aspect of academic writing as engagement with both content and dialogue in rhetorical situations. Our main purpose is to examine and assess the value and functions of ENDORSEMENT in RAs of Social Psychology. While reporting their research and/or experiments, RA authors seem to assume attitudes which notably vary from (and within) Introductions through Methods and Results up to Discussions – at epistemic as well as evaluative levels. Quotations and references are crucial to scientific discourse, and are chosen not only according to an implied relevance criterion, but also as preceding functional steps of the ongoing research. They are essential to engage the scientific community at a global level into reading and accepting the work as belonging to a reliable tradition of studies. ENDORSEMENT has therefore become a constitutive part of Introductions, and, to a lesser degree, of Conclusions/Discussions as well. We selected a corpus of 40 Research Articles of Social Psychology published in 2006, drawn from leading journals of Social Psychology circulating at global level. We highlighted recurring En-/Non-/Dis-endorsing linguistic features (showing both qualitative and quantitative data), classified and framed according to their specific communicative /rhetoric/negotiating purposes
