Acompañamiento en el montaje de un sistema de recirculación para producción de escalares (Pterophyllum scalare) en el Corregimiento de Sabaletas
No full textEl presente trabajo describe el diseño, la construcción y la evaluación de un sistema de recirculación acuícola (SRA) artesanal, elaborado con materiales locales y reciclados, destinado a la reproducción y cría del pez ángel Pterophyllum scalare en el corregimiento de Sabaletas (Buenaventura). Se instalaron módulos de reproducción y alevinaje con biofiltros artesanales y se monitorearon varias parejas de reproductores durante su ciclo de crianza. La experiencia permitió obtener juveniles con una supervivencia elevada y mantener los parámetros fisicoquímicos dentro de rangos adecuados para la especie. El biofiltro presentó capacidad para reducir los compuestos nitrogenados presentes en el sistema. Se concluye que un SRA de bajo costo y basado en materiales reciclados es una alternativa viable y replicable para pequeños productores, contribuyendo a la sostenibilidad y a la mejora de la bioseguridad en la acuicultura ornamental.INTRODUCCIÓN. 1

Producción musical del tema "Nibbiru" de la banda Aurora Mandelbrot
No full textThis thesis project, started at the beginning of February 2013, with the production of the “Aurora Mandelbrots” promotional single “Nibbiru” which was developed in the following months. The author of this single was the “Aurora Mandelbrot Band” which was constituted in Quito in 2010. The musical genre of the band is indie Rock. The band is managed by Diego Montalvo (guitar and voice), Alex Rovayo (guitars), Xavier Vallejo (bass), Carlos Suarez (keyboards and sequences) and Ando Álvarez (drums). In this project, the musical, acoustical and technical part of the production was developed through three stages: Pre-production, production and post-production. The variation of the musical form of the single, the use of a keyboard in the final orchestration and the search for the sound that matches the style of the band the best, highlight among the musical changes established in the composition. Besides, the recording of the single was made in a professional studio and the post-production of the single was made in a home studio….Este proyecto de tesis, inició a principios de Febrero del 2013, con la producción del sencillo promocional “Nibbiru”, de la Banda “Aurora Mandelbrot”, el cual fue desarrollado en los meses siguientes. Este tema musical es autoría de la Banda “Aurora Mandelbrot”, la cual se formó en la ciudad de Quito en el año 2010. El género en el que está enfocada la agrupación es el “Indie Rock”. Can We Learn to Treat One Another Better? A Test of a Social Intelligence Curriculum
No full textabstract: This paper reports on the first test of the value of an online curriculum in social intelligence (SI). Built from current social and cognitive neuroscience research findings, the 50 session SI program was administered, with facilitation in Spanish by classroom instructors, to 207 students from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid as part of their undergraduate classes. All materials were translated into Castilian Spanish, including outcome measures of SI that have been used in prior studies to provide valid estimates of two key components of social intelligence: 1) Sensitivity to others and 2) confidence in one’s capacity to manage social situations. Pre- and Posttest were administered to participants in the SI training, and also to 87 students in similar classes who did not receive the program who served as the control group. Gender and emotional intelligence levels at pretest also were examined as potential individual differences that might affect the impact of the program on study outcomes. Repeated measures ANOVAs on study outcomes revealed significant increases, from pre to post, in most measures of social intelligence for program participants in comparison to controls, with no effects of gender or age on program effectiveness. Prior scores on emotional intelligence were not a prerequisite for learning from the program. Some findings suggest ways the program may be improved to have stronger effects. Nonetheless, the findings indicate that the SI program tested here shows considerable promise as a means to increase the willingness of young adults to take the perspective of others and enhance their efficacy for initiating and sustaining positive social connections.doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0128638.s001doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0128638.s00

No full textMuestra gastrofónica fue una serie de concierto didácticos realizados por el ensamble de percusión Seis-on. Esta agrupación nacida en Cali durante el año 2008, maneja el concepto de música grupal con objetos, realiza montajes artísticos multidisciplinarios en los cuales la música como centro de esta disciplinas, está enfocada en ritmos latinos como el songo de Cuba, la plena de Puerto Rico, la samba de Brasil, y el currulao, el bunde, el porro chocoano y el mapalé de Colombia, entre otros.

The USMCA and the Third Generation of Labor Agreements. Probable Scenarios for Work and Regional Industry
No full textUnder the slogan “America first,” Trump pressured for a trade deal that would stem the flow of jobs and investments toward Mexico’s low-wage market. The new treaty increased the amount of regional content required in the auto industry and introduced a chapter on labor rights with unprecedented oversight mechanisms; so much so that they constitute a new generation –the third, most complete, and binding– set of labor rules introduced by the United States in its trade agreements. With this, net profits are expected for that country in a strategic industry like auto. Andrés Manuel López Obrador substantively changed Mexican labor law and has boosted wages, encouraging a new model of labor relations. This study constructs scenarios, assessing whether these expectations will come to pass. The author maintains that, on the contrary, jobs and investment in Mexico’s auto industry will continue to increase, completing the emptying out and de-territorialization of U.S. industry.Bajo el precepto America first, Donald Trump presionó por un tratado comercial que frenara la fuga de empleos e inversiones a causa de los salarios bajos de México. El nuevo tratado incrementó la regla de contenido regional en la industria automotriz (IA) e introdujo un capitulado de derechos laborales con mecanismos de fiscalización sin precedentes, tanto, que constituyen una nueva generación –la tercera, la más completa y vinculante– de reglas laborales introducida por Estados Unidos en sus acuerdos comerciales. Con estos elementos se esperan ganancias netas para ese país en una industria estratégica como la automotriz. Andrés Manuel López Obrador modificó sustantivamente la ley del trabajo y ha aumentado salarios, y ha afirmado que existe un nuevo modelo de relaciones de empleo. Este estudio construye escenarios y plantea las posibilidades de que se cumplan estas expectativas. Sostiene que, al contrario, continuará la atracción de empleos e inversiones a la IA de México, con lo que se completará el vaciamiento y la desterritorialización de la industria estadounidense.El estudio ha puesto sobre la balanza un grupo de posibilidades de evolución de la industria y el trabajo regional en función de la consolidación de un nuevo modelo laboral para México, alentado por los arreglos del T-MEC. El momento para nuestro país y Norteamérica es único. Que haya un nuevo modelo laboral en México está en el mejor interés de los tres países. Evaluación del potencial antifúngico del isoespintanol extraído de Oxandra xylopioides Diels (Annonaceae), contra aislamientos intrahospitalarios de Candida tropicalis
No full textActualmente, la incidencia de Infecciones Asociadas a la Atención en Salud (IAAS) representa un grave problema por el aumento, no solo de los índices de morbilidad y mortalidad, sino también los costos en los servicios de salud a nivel global. Los hongos son uno de los principales agentes etiológicos de estas infecciones; infectan a un gran número de personas cada año aumentando las tasas de morbi-mortalidad especialmente en personas inmunocomprometidas. Recientemente se ha reportado la eficacia de compuestos de origen vegetal con potencial antifúngico como una alternativa a ser empleada. Por esto, el objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el potencial antimicrobiano del isoespintanol (ISO), tomando como modelo la levadura patógena Candida tropicalis, estimar su capacidad para inhibir biopelículas y hacer una exploración a los mecanismos de acción antifúngica de este compuesto. Los resultados revelaron inhibición del crecimiento fúngico e inhibición de biopalículas, con efectos superiores al efecto causado por la anfotericina B (AFB). Además, se evidenció el efecto del ISO sobre varias dianas moleculares como mecanismo de acción antifúngica. En cuanto al efecto del ISO, sobre el transcriptoma de C. tropicalis, el análisis de expresión génica diferencial permitió una visión integral de los cambios fisiológicos, estructurales y metabólicos de C. tropicalis que ocurren en presencia de ISO. Reduction in BACE1 decreases body weight, protects against diet-induced obesity and enhances insulin sensitivity in mice
No full textInsulin resistance and impaired glucose homoeostasis are important indicators of Type 2 diabetes and are early risk factors of AD (Alzheimer's disease). An essential feature of AD pathology is the presence of BACE1 (beta-site amyloid precursor protein-cleaving enzyme 1), which regulates production of toxic amyloid peptides. However, whether BACE1 also plays a role in glucose homoeostasis is presently unknown. We have used transgenic mice to analyse the effects of loss of BACE1 on body weight, and lipid and glucose homoeostasis. BACE1-/- mice are lean, with decreased adiposity, higher energy expenditure, and improved glucose disposal and peripheral insulin sensitivity than wild-type littermates. BACE1-/- mice are also protected from diet-induced obesity. BACE1-deficient skeletal muscle and liver exhibit improved insulin sensitivity. In a skeletal muscle cell line, BACE1 inhibition increased glucose uptake and enhanced insulin sensitivity. The loss of BACE1 is associated with increased levels of UCP1 (uncoupling protein 1) in BAT (brown adipose tissue) and UCP2 and UCP3 mRNA in skeletal muscle, indicative of increased uncoupled respiration and metabolic inefficiency. Thus BACE1 levels may play a critical role in glucose and lipid homoeostasis in conditions of chronic nutrient excess. Integration of the double diamond methodology of design thinking and devops for the optimization of software development processes
No full textThe integration of Double Diamond Design Thinking methodologies with DevOps seeks to optimize software development processes. This hybrid approach combines the user-centered design principles of the Double Diamond methodology, which emphasizes understanding and addressing user needs through a structured four-phase process (Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver), with the collaborative and iterative nature of DevOps, which aims to improve efficiency and value delivery in the software lifecycle, in order to improve development quality by reducing response times, increasing adaptability to changes, and ensuring that final products are functional, scalable, and aligned with user needs and business objectives. A mixed-approach methodology was used. For the qualitative analysis, 120 researchers were surveyed, divided into two groups: control and experimental, to analyze the variables efficiency, product quality, adaptability and user satisfaction. On the other hand, the quantitative variables of system load and performance were analyzed. It was shown that the automated system reduced registration and follow-up times, improved the perception of ease of use and decreased the need for technical support. In addition, its efficiency was validated with 300 simultaneous requests, showing an optimized use of resources and average response times of 200 ms. It was concluded that this methodological integration improves efficiency, quality and user satisfaction, offering a replicable model in other technological context
