    Status of LHCb

    No full text
    The status of the LHCb experiment is presented. The experiment has been taking data since the LHC startup. The performances of the various sub-detectors are discussed and a preliminary measurement of the b cross-section is reported. The value is in agreement with expectations.The status of the LHCb experiment is presented. The experiment has been taking data since the LHC startup. Manuale professionale di dizione e pronuncia. Come educare la voce parlata

    This manual is addressed to those people that want learn a good pronunciation of Italian language for professional purposes. The first part of volume is devoted to the description of relaxation techniques, a particular attention is given the complex dynamics of respiratory and speech phonation. The second part contains an outline of linguistics and articulatory phonetics. In particular, the section is focused on the relationship between graphemes and phonemes, as well as on the articulatory description of Italian vowels and consonants (this part is integrated by several explicative Figures). The geographical characteristics of pronunciation and a detailed analysis of the norms of diction of the most problematic Italian graphemes, namely , , and were also discussed. The manual is completed by several exercises and by a useful Dictionary of about 2000 lemmas phonetically transcripted according to IPA that provides the diction of high-frequency Italian words having normally a problematic pronunciation. Finally, a CD-Rom contains the audio recordings of many Italian words and sentences. It is an indispensable didactic tool for testing the self-evaluation of the progresses achieved over the tim

    Strong Constraints on the Rare Decays B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-) and B-0 -> mu(+)mu(-)

    No full text
    A search for B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-) and B-0 -> mu(+)mu(-) decays is performed using 1.0 fb(-1) of pp collision data collected at root s = 7 TeV with the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. For both decays, the number of observed events is consistent with expectation from background and standard model signal predictions. Upper limits on the branching fractions are determined to be B(B-s(0) -> mu(+)mu(-)) mu(+)mu(-)) < 1.0(0.81) x 10(-9) at 95% (90%) confidence level

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Full text link
    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
