Sovranità, democrazia, Europa. Riflessioni a partire da Giuseppe Capograssi

    No full text
In this essay Biancu deals with the themes of sovereignty and democracy starting from Giuseppe Capograssi. The Author approaches three thesis of Capograssi: 1) in democracy, sovereignty belongs to people, but it is “rich of prerequisites”; 2) the most important prerequisite of sovereignty (and democracy) is the “maturity” of people; 3) the State represents an important element of “practical experience”

Giuseppe Capecelatro (1744-1836). Un arcivescovo tra politica e diritto

    No full text
Among the many essays of Giuseppe Capecelatro – in which it’s evident the influence of Pietro Giannone - is of particular interest the Discorso istorico-politico dell’origine, del progresso e della decadenza del potere de’ chierici su le signorie temporali (published anonymously in Naples in 1788) in which the author took part in the controversy conducted by the Bourbon government against the Church on the so-called tribute of Chinea. The agreement reached in 1791 between the King of Naples and the Pope sent in disgrace the authors - who wrote the essays against the Chinea - in front of the Bourbon government. For this reason Capecelatro didn’t hesitate to cooperate with the revolutionaries of 1799 to reform the municipality of Taranto

Biomarkers of cancer angioprevention for clinical studies

    No full text
With the great advances made in the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases over the last century, chronic degenerative Diseases-cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and cancer-represent the major causes of death in the developed world. Although massive efforts and investments have been made in cancer therapy, the progress made towards reducing mortality has been more successful for cardiovascular disease than for tumours. This can be attributable largely to an active prevention approach implemented for cardiovascular disease. Cardiologists treat their patients before the overt disease becomes life threatening, performing early interventions in phenotypically healthy patients, by using several markers that predict risk. If the concept of prevention could be applied to cancer in a more extensive way, a significant number of tumours could be avoided through preventive measures. Prevention approaches range from avoiding tobacco exposure to dietary strategies to active pharmacological approaches in higher risk groups. Host targets rather than the tumour cells themselves are attractive for chemoprevention, in particular endothelial and immune cells. Angioprevention i.e. preventing cancer angiogenesis is a key concept that we introduced; yet one of the major current challenges for anti-angiogenesis in therapy and prevention is finding the right biomarkers. Here we discuss the importance of angioprevention and the potential use of VEGF, PlGF, CD31, Ang and Tie, circulating vascular cell precursors, and microRNA as potential biomarkers

Heidegger “inocente”: um exorcismo da esquerda pós-moderna

    No full text
Limiting itself to condemn Heidegger’s antisemitism trying to save his philosophy is a desperate attempt, because the antisemitism of the author of Being and Time does not have a naturalistic dimension, but a cultural one: for him ‘world Jewry’ is above all synonymous of modernity and humanism. Heidegger’s philosophy must be rejected not (only) as antisemitic, but (especially) as inherently reactionary

La scrittura doppia ‘a bilancio corrente’ di Giuseppe Milanesio. Un’interessante variante del giornalmastro ormai dimenticata

In 1866 Giuseppe Milanesio formulated the “scrittura doppia a bilancio corrente”. This was a particular bookkeeping methodology characterized by the presence of only a main book, substantially obtained by merging Degranges’ day book ledger and the Filippini’s “budgetografia”. By the inventor opinion this daybook allows to estimate in a simple and fast way, with a daily cadence, the rest of all the factors of production, the debtors, the creditors and their amounts (without the need of other auxiliary books), the balance of all assets and liabilities, including the economic result, without need to settle accounts. Therefore, this book makes easy to settle account operations. As a matter of fact, most of the Milanesio's goals have to be scaled down because obtainable only from firms characterized by an extremely reduced number of recordings and accounts. In any case, this methodology has some validity, at least from a conceptual point of view, and it is surely interesting. However, maybe because it did not represent a real novelty in the field of the accounting studies at that time, it was at first ignored and, then, forgotten as its author. That being stated, the present work aims to illustrate Milanesio's methodology, highlighting its advantages and limits, after a brief introduction of the day book ledger and the “budgetografia” which have been the basis of his particular application

Subgradient Techniques for Passivity Enforcement of Linear Device and Interconnect Macromodels

This paper presents a class of nonsmooth convex optimization methods for the passivity enforcement of reduced-order macromodels of electrical interconnects, packages, and linear passive devices. Model passivity can be lost during model extraction or identification from numerical field solutions or direct measurements. Nonpassive models may cause instabilities in transient system-level simulation, therefore a suitable postprocessing is necessary in order to eliminate any passivity violations. Different from leading numerical schemes on the subject, passivity enforcement is formulated here as a direct frequency-domain calHinfty{{cal H}_infty} norm minimization through perturbation of the model state-space parameters. Since the dependence of this norm on the parameters is nonsmooth, but continuous and convex, we resort to the use of subdifferentials and subgradients, which are used to devise two different algorithms. We provide a theoretical proof of the global optimality for the solution computed via both schemes. Numerical results confirm that these algorithms achieve the global optimum in a finite number of iterations within a prescribed accuracy leve

Archbishop of Taranto lived between late 1700 and early 1800. He was the author of Discorso istorico-politico dell’origine, del progresso e della decadenza del potere de’ chierici su le signorie temporali(Philadelphia sd but Naples) and Riflessioni sul discorso istorico-politico, dialogo del sig. Censorini italiano col sig. Ramour francese (Philadelphia, 1789). The two essays, placed on the Index by S. Office, are part of the controversy conducted by the Bourbon government against the Church on the so called tribute of 'Chinea'
