    No full text
The contribution aims to consolidate our knowledge about the cult of one of the most important divine figures in the Greek world, Zeus Agoraios, the god of the agora and of urban public spaces. The work will be based on large evidence – be it literary, epigraphic, numismatic, or archaeological – collected from different poleis, starting from the island of Crete and mainland and insular Greece, to reach the West, with the examination of the case studies located in Magna Graecia and Sicily. Firstly, the history of the studies on Zeus Agoraios will be retraced, highlighting the importance of R. Martin’s work as starting point of the debate; and secondly, as conclusion, there will be an overall assessment of the figure of Zeus Agoraios, analyzing the architectural and topographical aspects, the formation of this cult in the world of the Greek poleis, the little knowledge we have about its iconographic representation, the roles played by the divinity and the diffusion of its veneration from what is possible to deduce today thanks to the sources collected. Finally, at the end of the article, the reader will find two tables representing, in a systematic and summarized way, all the different testimonies collected on the cult of Zeus Agoraios and on the worship of the “Others Gods of the agora”, useful both as a tool for knowledge than quick reference

The available documentation concerning the cult of Zeus of the agora – a deity usually worshipped in agorai and re- sponsible for the protection of citizens’ assemblies – on the island of Crete is of interest for at least two reasons. The first is the chronological continuity of this cult on the island, judging from the known contexts (Dreros, Gortyna, Itanos, Axos and Kantanos), which is documented from the early archaic period (late 7th century BC/early 6th cen- tury BC) to the early Roman imperial period (late 1st century AD). The second is given by the conspicuous number of oaths and dedications that are addressed to Zeus Agoraios, both in official and private spheres, as evidenced by the dedication to the deity by a private citizen named Ithaimenes, attested in the epigraph found in Kantanos. The contribution, therefore – after briefly framing the general characteristics of the Zeus Agoraios in the Greek world – aims to carry out a reconsideration of the documentation from the urban contexts of the Cretan Island where it has been possible to trace the presence of the god’s cult, in order to outline its development over the centuries, un- der the sign of temporal continuity

The University of Naples L'Orientale, after a long pause in its investigations in the area of the Forum of Cupra, hasstarted a new research project aimed at understanding the occupation phases of the city's monumental area and the topographical development of the entire settlement area. Research in the forensic area, after the first investigations in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, in which the focus was mainly on the recovery of objects, had received an initial impulse in the second half of the twentieth century, by the competent Superintendency, followed by the large-scale excavation and valorisation project by Arcus spa. Despite the great economic effort put into the field investigations, and the valorisation of the archaeological park with the creation of reception facilities, the vast amount of data collected in those investigations remained unpublished, with the exception of a preliminary edition.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

The study takes up the building history of the large temple facing the west side of the Forum after new investigations in 2022; the building had so far been only partially brought to light by previous excavations. The high–podiumed temple, of Corinthian order and provided with a deep cella, was built in the Augustan age and was thoroughly renovated from the foundations in a second phase, following a series of structural injuries that had endangered the entire building. On that occasion the cell’s splendid pictorial decoration, belonging to the so-called. III Pompeian style, was buried in the deep filling of the podium, the foundations were reinforced and the entire wall of the cella rebuilt in brickwork; of the latter it was possible to bring to light in collapse almost the entire north side. Among the architectural elements recovered from the excavation are fragments of columns and some good-quality lion’s head stone dripstones, also dating from the reconstruction of the temple
