Integration of cognitive dynamics in the project to address the challenges of climate change

    No full text
This study addresses the pressing need for methodological innovation in response to climate change, with a particular focus on integrating cognitive dynamics with environmental design. The study is grounded in the theories of Extended Mind and Embodied Cognition, and proposes a novel approach that transcends traditional views. This approach uses innovation diagrams to analyse and integrate the physical and social environment as active elements of the cognitive process. The systemic approach is designed to develop practical tools and frameworks for the design of resilient and sustainable urban spaces that enhance human-environment interactions. The project not only seeks to provide new methodological insights but also fosters a holistic view that incorporates ecological sustainability in architectural and urban planning, thereby better addressing global environmental challenges

The vision of the lever of culture as growth, linked only to the beauty of the historical centres of the inland areas, forgets the social value. Active cultural participation is necessary for effective growth that also involves those who live there and not who "consume" the places. In this framework, the role of the University becomes central for the triggers that can accompany the dynamics of regeneration. An interesting experience with potential for replication regards Community cooperatives of Abruzzo, in which some researchers from the Departments of Architecture and Economics of the “G.d'Annunzio” University are experimenting with approaches to enhance processes already implemented in a multidisciplinary approach. The experience, under the dissemination work of Confcooperative, concerns the presence of economic cooperation activities accompanied by growth and stabilization processes

    No full text

However, high-temperature water-vapor-rich combustion gases can induce severe surface recession phenomena in SiC/SiC leading to component failure. For this reason, it is necessary to design protective coatings, i.e., environmental barrier coatings (EBCs), able to protect the SiC/SiC surface in combustion environments. In the present work, ytterbium monosilicate (Yb2SiO5), stable when exposed to water vapor at high temperatures, and ytterbium disilicate (Yb2Si2O7), characterized by a thermal expansion coefficient closer to that of the substrate, were selected for a multilayer EBC system. EBCs were processed using the atmospheric plasma spray (APS) technique. A set of deposition parameters were tested, varying the power of the torch, and the composition and microstructure of the deposited coatings were studied in terms of porosity, crack density, and post-deposition phase retention by performing SEM, EDS, and XRD analysis. The results allow for the definition of the influence of deposition parameters on the final properties of multilayer EBC coatings
